New TV Drama - This Fall

  • Police work isn’t rocket science.

    It’s harder.

Inspired by true events, APB is a new police drama with a high-tech twist from executive producer/director Len Wiseman (LUCIFER, “Underworld”) and executive producer/writer Matt Nix (“Burn Notice”).

Sky-high crime, officer-involved shootings, cover-ups and corruption: the over-extended and under-funded Chicago Police Department is spiraling out of control.

Enter billionaire engineer GIDEON REEVES. After his best friend is murdered in a botched attempted robbery, and the killer remains at large, Gideon demands justice. Putting up millions of dollars of his own money, he makes an unprecedented deal to take over the troubled 13th District – and reboot it as a private police force: better, faster and smarter than anything seen before. With cutting-edge technology created by Gideon himself, this eccentric yet brilliant outsider challenges the city’s police force to rethink everything about the way they fight crime.

But the near-overnight transition to the city’s most advanced police district doesn’t sit well with all of its members.
Wow! This sounds fantastic!! A privately funded police force, an outsider billionaire funding the technology - Rahm has to be having heart palpitations just reading about this!

Of course, RoboCop did it first. And better. And they did it in Detroit.

We wonder if they need "consultants," someone to show them the ropes as it were.

The tv drama will be the body camera show. Even if it goes according to the use of force model, they will side with bad guy. Some of these clueless people are the wifes relatives who would still be clueless even long after their neighbor goes ghetto and killings happen on their block.....they would still be like oh know, trump might blow up a country, how could you ever vote for him. Go hide under your blankets and await your new neighbors while you keep blameing successful hardworking people for every problem.

Fatal shooting tonight might yield yet another by morning. Legit shots fired on several quiet residential streets in the last week and not enough officers to have all our beat cars up on midnights. And don't get us started on the useless commander Bubblehead.

Off topic, the city has approved over 500 million in police misconduct cases. My question is two fold, as cops what are your thoughts on these cases and two, why are they never fought by the city? As a citizen we can only go by the police official report and sometimes information is a lie, okay I can see how that happens. My opinion is this, asshole thug in a stolen car, illegal weapon, runs from the cops, it may seem terrible to say this but you forfeit your life unless you surrender immediately and hope you don't get ventilated on the spot. In a ideal scenario you want a simple arrests but this is not TV. I really would like to hear your thoughts because these are anonymous posts. Thanks.

1.) This show will make current police look like a bunch of drunken, white, racists.

2.) The 13th District will be non-union, no pension, rainbow coalition, metrosexual tech geeks.

3.) The reality of ghetto life will never be touched.

Will the show reflect the truth about Chicago crime and the demographics of crime?
Will it show that 70% of the homicides are AA, 25% are Hispanic, and only about 5% are white or asian?
Or will it be like Hill Street Blues, showing the vicious Irish gang, and the plucky, disadvantaged Puerto-rican gang, but strangely, rarely an AA gang? Or NYPD Blue and Castle where almost all the murderers are white, and so are their victims?

Later this month, the City will begin releasing audio and video footage of open use of force investigations within 60 days of the incident in an effort to boost transparency. http://chicagomonitor.com/2016/02/op-ed-would-the-chicago-fair-cops-ordinance-make-a-difference/

Op Ed – Would the Chicago FAIR COPS Ordinance Make a Difference?

The auditor’s power is limited to extremely feeble oversight of the Independent Police Review Authority (IPRA) and the CPD’s Internal Affairs (IA) division. Its concrete powers are: the ability to require IPRA to revise a recommendation for discipline, and the ability to require IPRA or IA to change the classification of a complaint type within their own offices’ systems, or to continue to look into a complaint identified by the auditor. That is all. Fair Cops would create another source of recommendations that never manage to reach their destinations. No matter how IPRA might carry out the revisions suggested by the auditor’s office, the Police Board would still have exactly the same final say it has had a monopoly upon since before IPRA’s creation. At this point, Chicagoans need more than required revisions to non-binding recommendations when it comes to police misconduct.

Ninth Circuit Court rules that Second Amendment is “not a second class right”
POSTED AT 9:21 AM ON MAY 17, 2016 BY JAZZ SHAW

The plaintiffs in the case included three individuals who wanted to open a new gun store in Alameda County. They were joined by pro-Second Amendment groups: The Calguns Foundation, California Association of Federal Firearms Licensees, and the Second Amendment Foundation.

“Today, the Court appropriately reminded the County that civil rights can’t be outlawed through piles of regulation. We look forward to securing Second Amendment rights through this case and many others to come,” concluded Brandon Combs, executive director of The Calguns Foundation. “We’re very happy to see the Court take a very principled and reasoned approach to protecting the fundamental, individual right to keep and bear arms.”

Writing for the majority, Judge Diarmuid O’Scannlain said that the “right of law-abiding citizens to keep and to bear arms is not a second-class right, subject to an entirely different body of rules than the other Bill of Rights guarantees…”

In this case he was found not guilty he had a trial and acquitted!

And then there is this:

So in this case thug offender hits copper in face but video shows copper wrong!

My Father may he RIP told me repeatedly "timing is everything" and this timing will destroy any sense of any proactively at in via fetal policing! That's the hollywood way, wash, rinse and repeat. That's how you get dreck like "Pan Am", which was little more than a warmed over "Mad Men" (also dreck, but amazingly popular). Not to mention all of the "Lost" knockoffs. Lost might be the most overrated show in history. Next to Mash.

Send the producer of the show some script ideas. Who knows, they might hire you as a consultant? Maybe you get some bit part or as an extra?

Like the Koschmann saga. The coverup by high ranking police of an assault and murder by a relative of a mayor?

How about a story of a police shooting being covered up until the mayor is successfully reelected?

Cheating on promotional exams leading to wives and girlfriends of certain cliques getting promoted above their abilities?
Incompetent senior police leaders that were promoted "by merit" multiple times because they were related to a politician by blood or by birth?

How about a corrupt, racist Federal DOJ and ACLU claiming the CPD was racist because one race was arrested and convicted at the same rate as they were identified as criminal perpetrators?

As a newcomer, I am probably missing some really juicy script ideas? I bet a retired officer with writing skills could get a job as a show writer...

"Private" (i.e. for profit) police will be here soon. This show, like so much of media propaganda, will help get the public used to the idea.
New "realities" (e.g. police for hire) are usually pre-saged by this sort of media effort.
TV is the way certain behaviors get "normalized" in America.
Did anybody ever expect to see privatized prisons, mercs in the Mid-east, paying for clean drinking water, etc.
Yeah, I know. It's "just a TV show".....
Cui bono? It's not gonna be you.
Morality, as we know it, will cease to be the basis for law-and-order. Your new job will be to "make Chicago safe for parasites."
But then, most of you seem to have gotten that part.

That is good news.

On the other hand I lost a lot of respect yesterday for the Canadian born host of Jeopardy Alex Trebek. In talking with a contestant he said they were both interested in ending the Second Amendment and changing the Twenty-second.

He became a U.S. citizen in '98. He has a right to his opinion and I as an American citizen would use my Second Amendment right to defend his First Amendment rights.

"Legal"... may or may not be the correct word.

There is a Danger Zone of 21' as described for an assailant armed with a knife in the training video SURVIVING EDGED WEAPONS. It can be seen on YouTube. It's a bit long and dated but every cop should see this and be able to say they saw it in case they are involved in a shooting with an assailant armed with and edged weapon.

Stay Safe. I believe that Danger Zone has been expanded to 25'.

What Anonymous@5/17/2016 07:03:00 AM and Anonymous@5/17/2016 07:55:00 AM said.

Also:

This is supposed to be about a "District" (one of say 25 covering the city), which means it should be about the business of directing 300-500 officers in the suppression of mostly minor crime and free-lance thuggery, which is responsible for most of the mayhem. But there's not much camera bait in meetings about shift structures, patrol routes, vacation days, vehicle procurement and maintenance, station staffing...

This show will focus on highly cinematic clever-dick technology tricks for catching the relatively few dangerously clever criminals, as executed by a small elite squad.

It won't touch on the continual 4th Amendment issues that would arise from trying to apply the latest high-tech tricks.

It won't touch at all on traffic, which is a huge part of the job.

It will ignore the fact that the great majority of criminals are committed by mooks, most of whom are just useless, and some of whom are dangerous because they are vicious brutes, and because they are raised in a culture which tolerates and even glorifies criminals.

(Side note: This isn't just a new thing or a black/hispanic thing. I just read a British crime novel from 1956, in which the protagonist cop has to deal with a teenager who worships his career criminal father and sneers at "squealers".)

It won't touch on the failings of the State's Attorney office, the courts, or the command levels of the CPD. (Also, imagine the interesting issues that would arise on the borders of the "13th District".)

It won't touch on the shysters who would see the billionaire proprietor as a deep-pockets target for lawsuits, or the race-hustlers and police-baiters who would abet them.

It won't touch on the issue of recruiting and keeping high-quality officers under intense pressure to have lots of "minorities".

Hell, I bet it won't even note any problems with whatever existing station the 13th District has. (If an old Masonic Temple is being used, then it's supposed to be a vintage building which would have lots of issues.)

And I think I can guarantee that it will never actually say where the 13th District is. It certainly won't look like a really high-crime neighborhood, as those are overwhelmingly minority.

Question for the masses, I had a lieutenant claim there is a legal standard of 25 feet distance can require individuals to remain out of his workspace. Unfortunately he could not produce the legal case or statute for the bases of those claims . Has anyone else come across any legal requirement similar?

He outranks you. He doesn't want you invading his workspace. So stay out of his workspace. There. Easy. No legal standard required.

OT:7:38am - Yes sir, was also watching this morning's news & was proud when you watch one ISP Trooper taking the crazed mutt down. The hoods of 3 IDOT trucks were visible and in unison, three IDOT uniformed persons jump in and assist the Trooper. I'm sure that the Trooper was glad that the assist kept him from having to use any type of force since the helicopter's camera footage would have started the #blm lynch mob against ISP. So where is Fr. Faker? Shouldn't he be trying to get some help for this sicko? No protest/march here.

Thank you IDOT employees for your work on our increasingly violent expressways - maybe you should be deputized!!

Sounds great can't wait to see who plays Cook County Board President Prepwincle when she tells this private Police Force that they better stop arresting minority's because there are too many people of color in cook county jail. Or how about when a F/1 14 year old shoots at the police arresting her boyfriend, is apprehended, identified on the scene by the officer who the attempted murder was committed against, finds that the F/1 14 years is not charged ( for the good of the city perhaps) (happened over the weekend) the gun was recovered by K-9 the next day and she is still uncharged. Wonder how that will sit with our new supercop TV characters. Hopefully the "Community" will come up with a different chant and not steal ours ,(fuck the police) maybe Fuck the techno Police or Fuck the computer Police
Maybe we could even have a contest in our wonderful Chicago Public High Schools to come up with a new chant, I'm sure that all those wonderful teachers Like Page May could help out with that.

no mention of the handcuffing of the CPD by the ISR edict of "you must have evidence of a crime before stopping anyone",

Where did you get this from? Absolutely not true. Remember " reasonable articulable suspicion"? Or were you checking your Facebook page during ISR training?

Retired CPD here. Years ago the wife and I were S/B on I 57 when there was a backup caused by an ISP officer fighting with a huge Canadian resister on the side of the road. It was hotter than Hell and he was as slippery as Hell. Ran through three lanes of traffic, helped get him cuffed and got the fuck out of Dodge so as not to become involved in the court case that would surely follow. Who was that masked man?

I don't respect the rank of clouted up test cheaters which is basically every promotee of lieutenant and above on this department. So he can take his "work space" where he watches tv and plays candy crush, and shove it in his fart box. Now go get your shine box you suck up.

Instead of a show featuring just a wannabe version of Tony Stark, maybe Thor and the Hulk should show up as well.

Or go balls to the walls and allow Cyberdyne Systems to field test some prototypes. The whole west side south of Cermak could be the proving grounds. Phased plasma rifles in the 40-watt range, anyone?
