Chicago Can Afford This?

  • Former U.S. Senate Candidate and Chicago Urban League CEO Andrea Zopp is the new deputy mayor of Chicago. She will be focusing on improving city neighborhoods. Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced the appointment Thursday morning.

The long and short of it- there is a new player in Chicago mayoral politics. The African-American woman who earlier this year lost the democratic primary for U.S. Senate is setting up shop at city hall.

As he heralded increased South Side CTA service, Emanuel also announced Andrea Zopp as his new deputy mayor to be focused on neighborhood development.

[...] Zopp is a past Emanuel Chicago Public Schools board appointee who voted to close public schools and in favor of at least one corrupt contract.
So he created this second "deputy" spot out of thin air? This city has more "deputies" and "assistant" and "assistant to the assistant" spots than a dog has fleas.

And we saw one report that says she gets $185K? Amazing.

As I stated here last week when this made-up job thing happened, my guess is Rahm has just introduced us to his replacement.
He expects the Dems to pull his fat out of the fire and allow him to gracefully resign the mayor job, because his talents are required in some other capacity. Somehow, she will succeed him.

-- SCC

Not to mention "chief assistant coordinators" and "deputy assistant coordinators" and "auxiliary assistant coordinators" than one could shake a stick at -- assuming that one could still have a plain old stick.

$183,000/yr?

For ONE of these?

THESE are the people who are bleeding us dry.

Signed -- one old guy whose whole working family never saw $183,000 in one place in their entire lives.

Hmmm....in this article he said "I consider it fortunate for the city that somebody with this background is willing to give her time to public service," Emanuel said.

Willing to give her time? To me that sounds like she is volunteering. Maybe the $185, is going into her private slush fund.

Don't ask for state money (read: MY tax money) to bail out Chicago or ANY of its agencies - like the CPS.

If you have enough money to "hire" (read: put another loser, political hack on the Gravy Train), you DON'T need outside money to "bail you out".

ANY state money should be tied to a MUST HAVE initiative that states Chicago MUST CUT 20% of its budget BEFORE one dime of state money is given to them to bail out ANY program, agency, or general fund. AND - that should be AFTER Chicago cuts down its current group of rubberstamp Aldermen and their respective staffs, budgets, and other costs from 50 to 20.

THERE. In one paragraph, I have solved a LOT of the City's bureaucratic bloat and it did NOT take a year of a "distinguished" committee made up of civic leaders - and ALL its funding requirements - to come up with a REAL solution.

Get ready for 9.5 to take a position as an appointee by white house.

I believe he will go to work in State Department in a embassy position.
Why you ask?

Why was State Department in town surveying 9.5 home for security reasons.
Yes they were just here looking at location and how to make home safer.

Now he appoints a second in command position. Why? So he can resign and have Zopp just step into mayors position when he leaves.

No election no input from public and best of all its all legit.

Rahm wants the police department to do more with less. On top of doing more with less your have to do more with less with one of your hands hobbled to one of your ankles. Yet he keeps increasing upper management positions in the police department as well as the mayors office with the savings he has created by eliminating over 2500 police officer positions, real boots on the ground positions whose absence have contributed to the holocaust, or killing spree that is taking place in many neighborhoods across the city and the city's expressways. In other words he is sacrificing the lives of the citizens of Chicago, most of whom are Black Lives for more highly paid administrators in an already top heavy city government. This guy is running a game on the citizens of Chicago. He is a shyster,a snake oil salesman and cares nothing about providing the basic preservation of human life to the citizens of Chicago. When you look at how he is trying to bankrupt the Chicago Police Pension fund his total disdain for police officers becomes evident. Yet he keeps creating admin positions in his office, disguised as a position to improve quality of life for the citizens, but these positions are only created to improve the quality of his election campaign and his fundraising ability. Rahm will trample on the backs of each and every citizen of the city to increase his net worth monetarily and if he does not increase his political worth at least he will have the money, because money is his God and nothing else matters to this gypsy con man. He is a product of the Clinton Con Man&Woman School and his only goal in life is to acquire more money than the Clintons.

--------------------------------------------------

Hmmmmm...AND neither does Chicago. Better read up on how many times it's asked (and been granted by the State Legislature ) to skip its annual payment into the Teachers pension plan. THAT isn't the rest of the state's taxpayers problem.

PLUS - your comment that the state does NOT give ANY money into the CPS teacher's pension is NOT completely true (read 4th article link). Your comment over-simplifies a convoluted system that has had "deals struck" over the years between unions and districts that ALL need to be overhauled - AND reduced.

Plus - read what I wrote. I didn't say we are "paying into it already" - I said - DON'T ASK for us to start paying for it. Better check your reading comprehension.

Sounds like another "uninformed" disgruntled CPS teacher. Unfortunately, look beyond your own public "trough" and to all the other state monies that come into Chicago from the state to help "subsidize your city budget". (state money IS coming into Chicago - including the Teachers Pension fund - see article link 4)

If you are CPS, I am sure you aren't cranking out any National Merit Scholarship Winners at your school and probably sit around all day with all the other deadwood talking about how much further you have to get your pension and what you can do to enhance it as far as bump it up another $5,000 to $10,000 by gaming the system. Plus - accumulating sick days every year should be cut out. That's a way to acquire a "free year of salary" - another bogus "gaming of the system".

PLUS - read some other sources besides your own slanted Union newsletter to find out how costs (and benefits) are laid out - and who picks them up. (and how "deals were struck to shuffle funding when it should NOT have been)

http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2016-04-24/chicago-pension-scandal-100000-teachers-pensions-costing-taxpayers-1-billion

Too many are playing the system and it's time for reform.

The state Supreme Court says you cannot "cut the benefits"? You can, when you declare the agency bankrupt and ALL contracts are then null and void.

When you have some "double-dipping" at the tune of $500,000 a year (read the article), it's time to stop the insanity.

The money CAN'T run out? Maybe not. But the taxpayers will. Then the money WILL run out.

Big waste of tax payer money , full duty police officers doing office work , working short hours .
Here's an idea , reduce the police officers on duty disability pension , assign any officer that can walk , talk , answer a telephone to Caps . Make them earn that pay , get them off our pension . Many a phony baloney , full time baby sitters , part time students , some hold part time jobs .
Let them answer telephone , write reports , no gun necessary .
