"Give Up" Disabled Status?
Someone explain please?
- OT, but today at the Pension Board, a letter was read into the record. I understand that the letter was from FOP President Angelo. In it, he gave up his "disabled" status. Why would he do that if were actually disabled? Maybe because he isn't disabled, but was just another drain on the already broke pension fund.
Big thanks to Lt. Maloney for FINALLY getting Angelo off the rolls of the disabled. As for Lappe and Hauser, they can go to hell. Thanks for looking the other way while the pension went bust, sell-outs!
You can surrender a disability status? So what now? You take the P.O.W.E.R. test and come back to work? Is this some sort of miracle... should we call Rome?
Does this or can this affect post-FOP employment? Something in the six-figures range like previous past-presidents have managed to land?

That's why I'll never understand why a majority of active police officers voted for disability Dean. How can you vote for someone on disability to lead the fop for the active members. It's an outright disgrace. You want, you got it.
Follow the money and the plans of Dean wetting his beak will soon be apparent.
Keep an eye out for this
busily doing nothing hump's
PAR form for retirement...
Never ever saw a man not do shit
so hard...
Rahm owes him a debt of gratitude
for fast-walking the membership backwards.
That's still called "Treachery," right?
with all this Progressive "New Speak," slippery syntax,
rapidly gyrating and changing by the second
narrative, is "Bullshit," still "Shit?"
Or has it been artfully crafted into something else now?
Oh... Just never-fucking-mind.
Keep an eye on Dean.
Unions always take care of their past, and present leadership.
More money for him. I'll let someone else explain it.
#1: He wants to be able to legally carry a gun....
#2: He wants the higher pension once he retires....
It's a win win for him.....
What a scam that was. I asked Dean via email when he was running years ago how he could not do 311 desk duty but be FOP which is essentially a desk job. He just tap danced around the answer.
Forget it Jake, It is Chicago Town.
I think when one gives up ones disabilty status, he retires I would not be surprised if Dean turned 55 recently

And I thought that he was older than that! :)
There has to be more benefits to being on disability, other than no taxes, because there are soooo many people on disabilities?
Department has been trying to call back those on the disability list for a few years. If PO is capable, they come back as light duty and have them work inside. Makes sense, not everyone on that list is incapacitated. Some guys want to come back, but for years, the department didn't see a need for them.
A good man who is a friend of the Police and will have a MAJOR impact on the City and it's Police if he wins the political office he is running for, was involved in a hit and run traffic crash recently. Dude tboned him as he was driving down Elston Ave and takes off. Our friend calls the Police who respond and then proceed to do............nothing. NOTHING! Won't write the report, run the plate, look for the offending driver, nothing. Now here is a victim who genuinely supports the Police and can have a major impact on crime, the Police and justice in this city/county. And we treat him like shit. I can understand going fetal and not coming in with these bs arrests or writing traffic tickets etc., but should going fetal mean not helping our friends? Gotta pick and choose your battles and not helping our friends is a HUGE mistake.
Sorry Chris.
He's turning 63 soon.

Sadly, the majority of active police officers can't be bothered to fill out a ballot and mail it back in. I believe that the retirees are party responsible for Dean's coronation. I'd hope that the active membership can take two minutes of their day and complete a ballot as the next election approaches. Hopefully they'll even vote for someone concerned about the active members and not so wiling to give away tuition, duty availability and other fought for rights that affect active membership. You know, issues that retirees selfishly could care less about.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but as long as the mayors office can arrange for high paying post CPD employment you'll never get the representation you should.
Did you thing he sold out for free?
Dean Angelo's disability status is the foremost reason that I would never vote for him for any elective office. I am not a doctor but I always questioned that he was too disabled to work. Somehow he was able tomove past that and get a job teaching. The scamming displayed there seems to indicative of the man's character to get my vote ever. Now he is cured??? My suspicions have been confirmed!
Do what I say.....
Dean is 62. He will be mandatorily retired next year. He can put his papers in any day and collect his retirement. You don't take the power test to come back from disability. All you have to do is walk unassisted and qualify with your gun. Dean could have been back ten years ago. What a joke!!

He's already max'd his pension benefits like 6 years ago. He never asked to be on disability the city put him on disability.
In a effort to put every full-duty officer on the street the city has changed it's internal requirements. Now officers can work with many problems (exposed brace, specialized chairs, etc.) that they would never let work before. The city wants every full duty officer out of call back, ERPS, E&S, and working in a box somewhere. I've heard that He's just taking advantage of the change in policy.
This month's FOP Journal has a column by Mike Lappe detailing how hard he works to remove freeloaders from the Disability List. The usual egregious violators being video taped performing physical tasks which the disability status states they cannot perform. Yet, out in the open is our Deano teaching and performing tasks which would qualify for call back unit.
SCC - you are 100% right to question why this blatant farce has been carried out for YEARS. Hauser's ineptitude while the Pension Board loaned the Daley-Vanecko Crime Family 60 Million $$ is more than enough to have him removed but he also is a dead bump on the log known as the FOP Board of Directors. This chump should be removed so fast that his toupe would fall off! And why would Deano want an IROC card if you can't carry on City Wide College campuses unless you're campus police? Just another example of Deano's corrupt moral compass. Hopefully he won't even be near the upcoming contract negotiations. His new moniker should be Disgraced Disability Dean!
And FOP should treat him like Shields - no Past President title. Just put in Casciano until the next election. And this time - VOTE!
Retired .38spl +P
Just like This upcoming Presidential election, we voted for Dean because he was the lesser of two evils. Shields cost us all money because of his own arrogance, the rest let him do it as to take over when he screwed up, they all suck, that's why we got Dean. The City loves the infighting.
You know Deano put a lot of thought into this. Deano is his own number one.
These creeps from FOP are all the same. Some people there are there for the right reasons most are unit guys there from the department two hands of the same monster. A monster that I call Grok the Pension Eater. Nice that in the last contract the language was change so that city hall, on its own, could make the call to strip an officer. Not like all this strife was planned to bust unions and seek to abrogate pension law. We need an elected police commissioner.
Wake up people, Dean is turning 63 and will be forced on retirement. He is never going to see the street. This was all explained during campaign time but all we cared about was ...um, i forgot what we cared about.
How about the guys who need it

Right on. All the young guys can learn from the old guys like the above poster.
Will Dean have to go through the academy as a retread? Dean will turn 63 next year. He should just retire and be done with it.
Is he returning all the money he took while on disability status?
I have known people to come back to work from disability status after many years. All they have to do is work a few years and their pension is boosted dramaticallty. It is a smart move.
Well since doj is already here and dean invited them to our FOP hall to "privately" interview officers (We are from the government we are not here to target you), maybe they could sit dean down and have a disability chat? then maybe over to pension board and sit these people down and ask "who authorized the 60 million dollar no strings attached payment to the dv urban realty (daleys family), failed investment venture? You know this was our taken from our pension fund, and now rahm is holding that 550 millions dollar payment from us, yet he shoves the teachers 650 million is cash, could that money be our promised money that the taxpayers paid for? Hello Hauser please talk, we know you don't read the blog lol, now cut the bs tell us all about it!
Any copper, yes I said it. Any copper that doesn't vote for an active conservative beat copper that's legit for next FOP President should join ISIS because that's just as bad.
How is someone on disability for over 10 years, then all of a sudden is not disabled? Something smells.
Am I the only one bothered when Angelo says things like "worst I have seen in my 36 years". because I remember him in Nolan's disaster and I think he was medical with a knee injury for 20 years, maybe I'm wrong but I question how much of the street he has seen and how much police work he has done. I realize that does not necessarily impact his ability as president but it comes off like a person who lies on their resume.
I posted the above on another thread. I did not vote for DA because I thought his disability was bogus. I really hope we find out if this is true and get the whole story.
I did 30 years all on the street, my choice. I have a neighbor who worked 6 years mostly inside got a duty disability and when they transitioned her off disability at 63 she tells people she was a police officer for 33 years. That rubs me the wrong way. To be clear this type of scam is certainly not exclusive to CPD.
Fuckin Joker, Ass Clown Maximus. He knows shit comin down big time on fake Disability Fraud, just like in other States. You see, fraudulant Disability is not only a crime, Fraud, but also Tax Evasion, a Federal Crime. Yes all you phony Disability Pension scammers, you are about to be indicted by the Feds.

---------------------------
No..
He will be assigned to "Detached Services" at least til' the end of his FOP term.
If he is not re-elected he will probably retire with the age 60 FREE insurance benefit.
SCAMMER.
There is a 250 female "officer" who is "light-duty" working the desk in 014 on DAYS with only a handful of years on the job.
She scammed "light-duty" by falling in the parking lot with only a year on the job and stating she has a "bad back".
Many of these "light duty" con-artists can still carry a weapon and be in uniform so they put them in the districts last month and the alternate bid spot officer gets kicked back to the street. It is within the parameters of the contract.
Just like Dean, some of these shiftless scammers are disgusting.
Is the 55 retirement benefit still going? City pays for your medical insurance till 65 years? Might be his move. And is Hauser on disability? Isn't this parasite on the pension board? Any wonder the pension is broke.
The money that Dean is spending on lawyers at Fop is unbelievable. He told us the the law firm would be cheaper and better. I heard the numbers for Baum and Sigmund are over $1,000,000 for 2015. Dean said it would be $10,000 per month. Is this guy a liar or what. Can't we get someone who is honest in that office. Someone that is an active p/o. Its got to change.
As long as that Irish mobster Burke runs the disability department for the city the "disabled" officers will continue to collect, it's inherent and another handout to his people.
Maybe he made a trip to Lourdes.
Take a look at the Dean Angelo team . Dean , Ray , Greg , Kilmer and tom Mcdonagh . Let's see when is the last time one of these guys actually worked the streets ? Let's see detective , gun range , detective , house mouse and hotel bell. That's it ! These guys made a deal and outed all the guys that helped to get them elected . They are counting on the active members not to vote . That's how they think . Let's all vote and disappoint them !
Didn't he give up disability after he was elected? Or was that a lie too?
Angelo is 63 right?
Its obvious he's getting ready to retire. I'm amazed at the stupidity of some that post here and when I read it there is no way that some of these goofs are the police. Actually he will probably make more money being retired then he does on duty disability. Do any of you goofs posting read your own contract? Duty disability doesn't get the raises or any of the extra checks the working police get. Believe me at anytime you can end up on disability be it that life threatening heart attack and bypass or that car accident or that one arrest. Now keep bitching you idiots because you'll talk yourselves out of the few duty disability benefits you do get maybe at the next contract you idiots will give duty disability up for another 1% raise. Just hope you never need it.
I remember when insurance was free along with prescription drugs but the idiots on this job gave that up for a few bucks back pay. Blame the Ed Burkes, blame 35th street and the clouted blame everybody but yourselves but its always been the dumb as coppers who have screwed themselves on every contract for a few bucks. I suggest you whiners read your contract and at least understand it and your benefits before you sit and bitch about everything that you FOP members have let get away.
As for Mike Lappe yeah real nice guy but so focused and pissed off at all on disability he totally neglects the real problems with whats happening to our pension. Mike never had a bad job before he was hurt and he got a really good gig after that believe me for the average duty disabled cop would never be available or offered.
Wake the fuck up! You FOP members are your own worst enemy.
Guy on disability told me it's not inflation adjusted and banks don't count it as income. Their word not mine. Good scam, disability for bunch of years then pop back on full duty for more cash and full pension. Don't hate the player hate the game.
KMA Club
Alternate bid what is that? Never heard of that just all the brown nose full duty that refuse to work the street every district has them. Those that will bend over back words the minute you snap your fingers. Those are the biggest scammers those who are too afraid to work the street who have been leaving early for years and now have a whole new position made up "alternate" ok two year wonder. The right word there is relief officer which is not covered in the contract read it someday. We have an officer in our district who has been light duty for years working in the commanders office, what's the difference? You had your feelings hurt or you must be management on days. Now who in the hell cries over a desk spot? Your the police act like one!
To 7/03/2016 10:45:00 PM:
While DD doesn't get the extra checks, what they do get is 75% salary TAX FREE.
That's a whole boatload of extra money right there!
But, I do agree with your comments about Lappe.
As for Mike Lappe yeah real nice guy but so focused and pissed off at all on disability he totally neglects the real problems with whats happening to our pension. Check court records and pension board disability requests. Lappe sued the pension board and the city to get his job back! He couldn't even work the streets anymore! He was given gigs at Neighborhood Relations in 016 and the Academy. Lo and behold, he decided to try for duty disability in 2009-2010 in order to collect 75% tax free money for eight years. Of course, he was denied because he sued them to get his job back! Since he's so bitter for never being promoted and denied duty disability he's decided to get officers less injured than him off disability.
Nice guy?? Really??? Domestic CR too!!
Maybe he wants to work "new" VRI in the box at 1412 W. Washington.
The same guy who had a go fund me for his dog. A total gypsie
It's to Dean's advantage to retire before he turns 63. You must be retired 13 months to get the annual 3% cola raise every January.
Maybe he made a trip to Lourdes.
7/03/2016 02:21:00 PM
I don't get too many genuine laughs since I am retired. Thanks so much for this. You made my holiday!
Retired
When Deano gave a short, very short, statement to a retiree luncheon at Biagio's last year people tried to ask him questions. He ignored them and sprinted toward the exit like O-J in a Hertz commercial. So whatever his disability was it wasn't affecting his ability to run.
He is scheduled to speak at another luncheon soon. Maybe we should post the questions on the blog in advance and maybe we should block the exits.
I would love to know what CPD's wheelchair-bound pensioners like Jim Mullins and Cedric Brumley think of Dean's little miracle. 11 or so years on disability and he's magically back to duty status, just like that!
Dean the dream knows the game. Does nothing if it does not benefit him Slick from day one on the job. He thinks his claim to fame is the bogus PhD from a shit university Lewis. His make believe limp just disappeared !
Dean ! Go check on the next fishing tournament.
Says shit but real issues. FOP and for years had no shame. You guys need to change your bargaining unit to one that has balls. Next contract, they will give the store away to city.
Dean will talk quickly about how he was forced on disability. Dean, chose to go on disability. He could have come back a long time ago. He preferred making 6 figures at Calumet College and $60,000 per year from our fund. Wouldn't we all like to make $160,000 for working 40 hours per week. Most of us work side jobs and VRI and make a lot less. Dean is and will always be a scammer.
"...I remember when insurance was free along with prescription drugs but the idiots on this job gave that up for a few bucks back pay. Blame the Ed Burkes,

As I recall, HQ was still at 11th and State back then. And I only found one cop who actually said he voted for the "It's ONLY $2 a paycheck..." contract bullshit.
As Joseph Stalin said, "It doesn't matter who votes. It only matter who counts he votes." Wasn't John Deneen FOP President then and what became of him after he retired/was voted out?
There are many i.e. on disability or trying for it that are able to work. It's ridiculous that these individuals get away with collecting money to sit at home or they want to work another job. Two officers hired attorneys and lost , guess what, they are now back at work, more miracles.
Disabled should mean that! These fakers that function just fine but don't want to work! This job turns in to welfare for too many. !
Disability should be taxed , they should not be allowed to work another job and they should be living in Chicago, so when that miracle happens ( they get caught) they can come back to work.
Isn't it true if you come off disability you retire at the current rate, more money?
A sister of a boss was on disability for about 10 yrs, , a miracle occurred, she came back for 4 yrs and retired for a lot more money
You are right about Dineen. He is back in the board under Dean making $600 a month for sleeping at meetings. Dean loves giving our health insurance benefits back to the city. In 1999, the city wanted our portion of the health insurance to be a percentage of our salary. The Fop agreed to it, but the membership voted it down overwhelmingly. Dean and Nolan allowed the city to do it anyway. Thats why they were all thrown out of office back in 2002. Dean then went a disability for 12 years and then ran for president in 2014. In 2014, Dean gave away the 55 free health insurance by opening up the door making it 2% in 2017. So, I we stand today Dean, his son Dean Jr, Bill Nolan and John Dineen are all on the Fop payroll.
What about Lappe (pension board) who was shot in the line of duty, crippled and when the city put him on disability he sues to get back on the job and his "Clout" gives him a "spot" in 016 Neighborhood relations??? Physically unable to perform police work yet allowed to wear the uniform and carry a gun? Now, years later he's elected to the pension board and decides he wants to go on duty disability but is DENIED DUTY DISABILITY STATUS! WHY, 75% TAX FREE OF CURRENT PAY FOR 5 YRS...but will probably retire at mandatory 63, meanwhile he never pays any medical until he goes on pension.

There has not been no fishing Derby’s under this board
But don’t let the truth get in the way of your Shitty-Wide BULLSHIT.
Disability Dean is a big scammer. Did shit for the membership. What a pussy!
The only way to have your disability approved is by who you know. Forget what the Drs say when you go before the board they already know. It's better to have them back at a limited duty status and have all those cry babies full duty back on the street. How many sac eating terrys does the dept need. It's so bad now you have male officers crying over an inside spot. Unfreakin believable!
