I read this blog because I find it informative & enlightening. I was raised on the South Side in the 60's, it was truly a world class city. I now live in rural Indiana, still have family (including 4 of my sons) living in the city. Here is an example of what my 'Chicago' experiences lately:
Early July - went w/a friend who took their grandson to Univ of Chgo to see Lyme disease specialist - that night a child was shot in Englewood, right where we got turned around trying to get back on 90/94 to go home.
June, July & Aug - husband & I make many trips to U of C for his cancer & surgery treatments. I take the Drive back home, down South Shore drive - next day there is a daytime shooting right there. One evening I (again) miss the entrance to the xway, cross over into Englewood area - the next day a teen girl is shot. A few days ago I take the Skyway home, getting on at 79th & Stony - next day there are kids on Divvy bikes shooting up some laundromat. I feel like I need a bulletproof vest to visit him or I'll be lying next to him in the ICU! It's like running some ancient tribal gauntlet just to get there to the hospital! Add in all day & night ambulances pulling up with trauma victims. It is a WAR ZONE!
I feel sorry for you guys. You are the whipping boys for whatever goes wrong. Perhaps you all need to call in sick for a week. Let these idiots battle it out like that move Purge, a gene pool cleansing that will let the city recoup for a few years till it boils over again.

Really getting worse! At 1 time thought Christ in oaklawn was OK but heard the CFD medic on the scene by the shooting on Merrill saying to a copper on the body cam video "You don't want to go to Christ they don't like cpd coppers there!" The big question is does anyone know what hospitals are accommodating to taxpaying,bill paying,insurance holding police? Want the best fair treatment and if a hospital has employees that don't like police why do we go and get substandard or worse yet care that may kill us?

Off topic: Any reason why a team of high school aged kids, the sons of police and fire personnel from the Southwest side, just won the Senior League World Series and there's no mention on the news?
