Brain Surgeons

Silly suburbanites are becoming victims of complacency....and car thieves:
  • Wealthy suburbanites, you may want to put your car keys away.

South Side thieves have targeted luxury cars in 40 wealthy towns across the Chicago area from Lake Forest to Barrington to Hinsdale, officials say.

The bandits slipped into unlocked cars and drove away using keys or fobs they found inside cup holders or consoles.

Authorities believe at least 70 vehicles — BMWs, Audis, Range Rovers and Infinitis — were pilfered by a loosely organized Chicago theft ring this year.
But they aren't stealing the cars for profit:
  • Police have arrested about 15 suspects, most of them juvenile gang members. Detectives believe they were using the cars while committing armed robberies and shooting at rival gang members.

    [...]

Oddly, the ring wasn’t selling the cars to chop shops for parts. Instead, they were using them in crimes and then dumping them, [Chicago Police Lt. Ed] Wodnicki said.

After they would steal cars, “one of the other things these brain surgeons did was burglaries in liquor stores,” Wodnicki said.
One of the cars is suspected to be the one that was used to almost run down a copper on video, resulting in the car thief being ventilated and numerous coppers facing termination.

Auto theft, isn't that why one has car insurance in case the car is stolen?

Don't know where this article got its Intel from, but all the stolen vehicles around here were taken in Armed Robberies or Agg. Vehicle Hijackings. Towns like Evergreen, Alsip, Merrionette Park, Cal City, Blue Island, etc were getting hit hard. The amount of ISPERN's coming in for Vehicle Hijackings was ridiculous.

Very common in the North Shore for cars to be stolen at a hotel during a wedding reception and then be dumped in Kenosha or Racine after a drug deal or other crime. Because the owner is at the reception the criminals have a couple of hours or so to play with before it gets reported stolen.

This has been going on for a few years now. About three years ago two hood rats from the area of 55th and Bishop were observed walking down Ogden Avenue in Naperville trying door handles of parked parks for three or four blocks. They appeared suspicious because hoodies are unusual in Naperville and their walking pattern was not direct. They were crossing the street back and forth attracting attention. While one was rifling the interior of a car, the other stood outside as a look out. Naperville Police were alerted and arrived in seconds driving three marked vehicles and two unmarked SUV's and a mini van or two. (Hood rats prefer police in maked vehicles please. It is easier to know when to run when you see a black and white)

While one was detained in a Jewel lot, people walked up and reported their cars burglarized. One of THEM got away but the police knew where to look. They checked the train station and he was waiting for an east bound with somone's laptop computer.

They were locked up at the Du Page County jail and about six months later both were doing 3-5years in IDOC. Advice to hoodies: dress up a little bit and look nice when in town. And above all remember; Naperville likes the police on the streets and hood rats locked up. Thats the Naperville way!

I grew up in the southside. I earned a college degree, secured a good job, married and chose to raise my kids in the suburbs because my old hood is too full of the kind of shenanigans that were usually only seen near the dividing line. We lock our doors, windows and our cars, even while they are in the garage. Lots of garbage in the burbs - who towns full of it. Crime is where the criminals choose to drive and after growing up on the southside I am pretty aware of what a troublemaker looks like, whereas some of my suburban born and bred neighbors do not see it coming or feel to gulity to admit what they clearly see.
Lot's of these theieves are coming the burbs, in plain sight, during the day. Cruising the mall parking lots, staying at cheesier motels in the burbs so they can ply their sex trade or shoplift from the malls. I see them, trying doors in parking lots, pretending to shop, hanging out in parks, selling drugs at Metra stations. But god forbid someone calls and that loser gets roughed up by a suburban cop or told to move on. Then it's "oh you racist, elitist whites/asians" then your church starts inviting them through PADS, Hope's Front Door, Beds, Pillars - right into your area. On these charity/assistance days your parks look like hood rat central lined up with baby carriers for the free gift cards for gas and stores, while baby daddy sits in the lot or circles the block looking to hit a lick and scout stores for furure robbery. It is digusting, it's most always gang related and I am sick of my neighbors thinking I am racist because I want a safe park or don't want to have to have someone guard the door while the church building is open. It's hood life and they don't see it. It's a shame.

9/11/2016 03:20:00 PM..."

– why? it's your Box 1/2 arrest. Sometimes Dets are notified, but 26/Cal takes priority over branch.
Why do they have to call it it? A now defrocked Lt. made it a Pilot Program 2-3 years ago believing RBT doesn't have enough to do.
Some units call the ASA on their own and it gets by, you're welcome to try it. It has no bearing on the UUW case who calls it it.
The areas are just as overwhelmed as the disticts. Some ASA's will approve (or disapprove) w/o a Det. notif, depending who answers their phone. Good luck, taking a gun off the street is foremost & doing Turn In is easier on everyone for a case that is SOL anyway.

Most of my neighbors use their garages mostly for storage, as I've noticed when I drive past the opened doors. I realized one afternoon that I'd left the front door to my home unlocked overnight. "designed to mirror a European-style plaza shared by pedestrians, cyclists and drivers"

The problem here is, there are nice, polite people in all three categories, there are distracted or otherwise disengaged people in all three categories, and there are RAVING PSYCHOS in all three categories. Throw into the mix that, not everyone here is accustomed to "how they do things in Europe", and you've got a mess. Just look at downtown. Stupid bike lanes. Bikes are third-class transportation. Everyone knows it, and as long as everyone abides by this, all is well. As soon as you start giving the byciclists some sort of a perk, they get all holier-than-thou on everyone else. Don't yell at pedestrians, they were technically here first. And don't yell at cars. It's not that drivers have some kind of a superiority complex, it's that their vehicles could DESTROY you, and they also can't see you when you come zooming out of nowhere. Again, stupid bike lanes.

When I started in the suburbs that were connected to Chicago on the southwest side we had youths that would steal a old junker bicycle in the ghetto and ride it out to the burbs and take some suburban kids bike that he left in the the front yard when he went into the house for lunch or a potty stop. Come out of the house and find his nice new shiny bike gone and and old beater (work bike) in it's place. In the mean time the thief was as Jerry Reed would sing "Eastbound and Down"!
Then they refined their methods and used a better way. Catch public transportation/one juvie had a 10 ride Metra card, and take the train out to the burbs and steal a bike.
Later on we caught 3, 2 in one day that took a train out to the burbs around June. They would steal a bike and then ride up and down the streets checking the roadside mailboxes for the tax refund checks coming in.
Metra/CTA/PACE could do a whole ad campaign around these clowns. Direct deposit put a stop to a lot of the check stealing(we caught one urban youth with 6 checks), but there still are a lot of old seniors who don't trust direct deposit and want to see that check in their hands. Believe me, I'm trying to take care of my aunt's legal and finacial issues as her power of attorney. She didn't trust anyone and wanted to see the money in her hands.
Where I live now is 400+ miles fromChicago in the Upper Peninsula. We leave our vehices unlocked only because a)we have hardly any auto theft here, but more importantly your locks tend to freeze up when the temps drop below zero!
You younger guys and gals please stay safe. protect yourself and partner on the job, and your family at home. God Bless!

Wodniki's dad great boss and his son isn't far off. Complain all you want about merit but at least these two are good to the officers that work for them and have knowledge of the job .

To the poster at 9:02 am , if you are going to denigrate a person on the job at least have your facts straight , Eddie Wodnicki wasn't the tact Lt in the 014 under Bill Hanhardt , the tact Lt there was none other then George Ruchrich , another piece of work but irrelevant at this time .

Eddie Wodnicki was the tact Lt in the 018th and a damn good one too .

I'm just saying.

I would love it if those soft as whipped puppy shit suburbanites had their insurance claim rejected when they tell the insurance company that the car was unlocked, on the street with the keys inside.

"Contributory negligence." Read fine print of policy.

Want to stop vehicle theft? Treat vehicle theft like horse stealing, with punishment at the end of a rope upon being caught in the vehicle. As always the benefit will be realized in a reduction in other crimes where criminals use a stolen vehicle. Criminals will actually have to use their own vehicles to commit crimes.

Jimmy asks Eddy to use Eddy's vehicle for a drive-by shooting. Eddy tells Jimmy to steal a vehicle cuz he needs his vehicle to go to work. Jimmy tells Eddy that if he gets caught in a stolen vehicle he is immediately hung. But if he does a drive-by in a legit vehicle he will only get 15 yrs for manslaughter.

We are under no illusion that crime stops at da ciddy limits. Unfortunately in some burbs the politicians didn't always receive the same memo. And it's always fun to see the scams some of these little scholars pull to try to snow us. Duh. We have computers and phones and you should see the look on the their faces when we confront them with their past (even better when accompanied by mug shots). The cops may be more polite and the squad cars and jail cells cleaner but then there are judges with no sense of humor for gang banging thugs and think a burglary or a car theft is a serious crime.

In all seriousness, at least in the northern burbs most of us know that this is a regional problem plus we have enough of our own local dirtbags to deal with. We also started working more closely with Wisconsin and there are fewer cases of us dumping on each other. When we have mutual defendants we now look at who has the better case and let them run with us and if it's bad enough we both go after them.

One problem we have: shitty records from Cook County. Kid you not, one dirtbag had over 60 arrests but no reported convictions (and one was for murder)! Technically, he could have walked into a store and bought a gun because the records were shitty. CPD keeps very good records but the circuit court sucks (getting better lately). Judges rely on those records in setting bonds, too.

Since we all like war stories...

Arrested an armed guy in a stolen car from Chicago who was wanted for a homicide. When we were booking him he said, "You guys really had me." I replied, "You mean with the shotgun (that was at the base of his neck)?" "No," he answered. "You guys were too polite. In Chicago cops don't call you 'sir.' I didn't know how to react."

Let's see Lt EW
Merit detective
Merit Sergeant
Merit Lieutenant
Thanks daddy....

Can't do that anymore under the hiring plan. That's why they just give the test answers to who they want and the candidate scores 1,2,3 etc and are just promoted in rank order. Gives it all an air of respectability, however, the stink is still there.
You listening Special Ed?

You're a dumb fuck. Yeah, let's blame crime on normal ass people. I'm personally envious and happy for them that they live in a neighborhood where people act like human beings. You can keep living like you're on a fucking combat rotation with high security. I'm out of this bulllshit city as soon as possible. Enjoy your pride and dealing with the animals, loser.

I don't know about you, but Ed Wozniacki is a solid guy, so what if he made Lt. On the merit list and so what if he is back in the detective division. I would much rather work for a guy who has knowledge of that job then somebody who nevercwas c a detective. I worked for his father who was one of the best. And PS. EVERYBODY IS MAKING OT MONEY. SEEMS LIKE A PERSONAL ISSUE WITH HIM. DONT BE A JEALOUS HATER.

9/12/2016 11:14:00 AM

He's such a great guy, and you worked for his father, but you can't even get his fucking name right? You're so lost that it's almost sad.

The old comprehensive insurance coverage on an underwater loan or leased car three car garage with two empty bays trick. Wonder why none of them have garage door openers in them or tollway transponders and always contain expensive personal objects that are never found....

Leave it by the end of the driveway so they donlt come close to the house.

On my wAy to my Fed job at 3:15 Wednesday morning, stopped at a McD's in Carpentersville for coffee and what did I see in the drive up, 96 Saturn full of juvenile hood rats buying small sodas(4). Car had 7600 South. Western Avenue, Chicago used car sticker and plate frame. It was pouring down rain and closed to Barrington, I figure they were probably out looking to rob. Makes me want to spend the time getting my CC real soon.
