So if you've been suspended from VRI for 30, 60, 90 days for whatever reasons, the infamous Henny Penny has been offering to wipe the slate clean if you volunteer to work Labor Day weekend.
We have a hard time believing she's still employed. And given any sort of responsibility. She's also the one threatening a CR and a three month suspension from VRI if you scheduled yourself for Labor day and then cancelled for whatever reason - even if it was within the time allotted by Order.
But evidently this is true. We've gotten a few e-mails, a number of comments, and a phone call ourselves. Someone also sent us an audio file that we could listen to of the VRI Office calling to make the offer. We aren't sure how to post audio files, but it's amusing to hear the Department begging this Officer to work.
There's already an Order out cancelling days off for teams. It also states Districts with boxes will be covering the boxes due to the excessively low number of volunteers. That alone should provoke the media into looking at how short handed the Department is.

I know of a few supervisors and many officers that are watching to see who he scabs are.
I was absolutely stunned and very proud when i saw the roster for this weekend. (Recalling from memory) 2Sep , 47 officers ; 3Sep , 27 officers; 4Sep , 38 ; 5Sep 28 officers.
All in all we showed the city that we can stick together. And to the scabs, you should be embarrassed.

The Sun-Times is reporting that 40th Ward alder-crook O'Connor is saying 9.5 will hire "hundreds" of officers.

And when cops choose to not voluntarily work, the City and Department shits down coppers' throats. If the City and Department could figure out a way to not pay coppers time 1 and 1/2 for working their days off it would surely happen, in the continual effort to shit down coppers' throats. Fuck the City, the Department and the community activists who caused this anti-police atmosphere. Spend time with your family, kids, partner or just sit in the backyard and soak up the sun with a cool drink in your hand. You deserve it to yourself.

I've never heard of this and I feel bad for these kids. I've been on the job for 25 years and I hope these kids are going to be ok. I'm voicing how I feel as a father and not as a police officer. I know they're going to be okay. It just sucks that they're not going to graduate these kids officially before sending them to their districts

Graduation wouldn't teach your son anything that would help him. It's not some magical ceremony whereby one is officially bestowed with the gift of being a police officer. It's just a ceremony. Graduation ceremonies have been postponed until after people are out in the districts for a while now. It all depends on when the mayor feels like showing up. Your son will be fine. You should've told your son not to be the police in a place like Chicago in the first place. You've seen this job turn to shit over the past 25 years, especially over the last 2-3 years. There has to be some other job out there, or some nice suburb that needs police. I just don't understand how someone can take this job today. I wish them the best of luck.

Cute post, Lt. We can't lose all the overtime. The reason the overtime exists is to mask the manpower shortage. The only way the overtime goes anywhere is if we hire thousands of police. That's not happening, so the various overtime initiatives will continue indefinitely. The only valid reason for working overtime over these next few days is that you're a selfish asshole who likely lives beyond your means and who doesn't care about the safety of your fellow officers. This is an effort to highlight the extreme manpower shortage we have, which is a huge safety issue for officers and citizens alike. Your excuses do nothing to help anyone. As for your idiotic comment about posting with your real name and unit, I'll do that when you and the scabs you're defending do. Lead by example, or shut the fuck up. When one of us gets hurt or killed because we don't have enough police out there to back each other up safely, I'd love to hear what you have to say. Regular citizens are already under attack every day in previously quiet areas of the city. You don't seem to get it. If no one signed up for any overtime initiatives, the city would be forced to hire more police. We won't ever see that happening, but that's what's needed. People know the salary when they take this job. Excuses about financial problems don't fly with me. Cut costs somewhere or find outside employment that doesn't help the city hide its dangerously low manpower. I bet you're a merit Lt, since you lack the ability to figure any of this out. Hate to tell you but the city has been doing that for a while now. At least 3 years. A lot of new PPOs go through graduation at least weeks, if not months after they have been in a district already. My guess is that the city does this to save money so that they can clump as many recruits from multiple classes into one graduation. Also to show that they are hiring a lot more than it looks.

I signed up for VRI this weekend knowing I didn't have the requisite activity. I checked two days ago and sure enough the officer deployment page clearly stated "insufficient activity". But today I get a phone call from Special Events.....I laughed and rejected that call. Now I'm drunk. GO CUBS.

Relax. This has happened before with Emanuel (twice, I think). As usual, Rahm is probably out of town (is he EVER here?) and wants the photo-op at the podium during graduation. So the ceremony will be held at HIS convenience, no one else's.

Between our Admin office and our rapidly expanding CAPS office they could easily put 18 of those officers back on the street with no drop off in productivity.

That's how you stick together but be cautious or you'll lose all the great overtime you've been getting. I'm a Lt and support "the real police" just like a lot of other supervisors do but I don't support stupidity or clime at any rank.
The boycott showed solidarity regardless of the few that are working. I'm sure they had a valid reason. Leave them alone. Some people have valid financial problems and depend on every source possible. Unless you're willing to post with your real name and Unit, then don't throw stones at someone else.
Your probably a boss who cares for most of the kiss asses that surround you, who tell you what a great guy your are; that being said, when we ask for TD or try to switch a day off probably one of those who go alone with the powers to be and refuse approving the TD. This has caused people to use the medical to get off, faking IOD's and I think you get the picture. So we the little guy come up with a plan to eliviate some of these problem and your worried about a few dick heads that need the money and fuck the rest.

Either you worked in a hole inside our have a bad memory, sending ppos out to the districts to start working then having their graduation a few weeks later has been a normal practice for at least the past 11 years that I know of. Ceremony is just a formal thing, they already have what they really want, a badge and a gun sworn in and ready to get out on the street and have fun.

I was absolutely stunned and very proud when i saw the roster for this weekend. (Recalling from memory) 2Sep , 47 officers ; 3Sep , 27 officers; 4Sep , 38 ; 5Sep 28 officers.
All in all we showed the city that we can stick together. And to the scabs, you should be embarrassed.

Be sure and look at the roster again after Monday and see who has the word "worked" behind their name. Oh, and don't forget to look at the other o/t schedules such as parks, etc. Know who the scabs are. Forever.

the in house overtime in 005 got fucked...they changed their starts times from 1530 til 0200 to 1900 to 0530...haha good for for you scabs!

I'd like to think that the people working VRI this weekend aren't scabs, but actually still believe that they can help the citizens of chicago. Remember, the people who hate the police really believe that the only reason someone would want to become the police is to bully people and carry a gun and a baton.
I as a civilian and family to multiple police believe the majority of the police want to work, lets face it, you're not going to get rich or famous (although some do both like Farina) but it's an important job and one that's appreciated by a larger percentage of civilians then admit it.
I"m not saying sign up, just that it's not a strike, or a slow down, but you guys are your only real friends,and you need to remember that some of us really still believe the altruistic reasons to wade through the shit you do.

And do nothing dog asses for the last 20 years will always be remembered as do nothing dog asses by their fellow coppers. Dog asses cry about everything in order to find an excuse, bosses, contract, pay, schedule, citizens, etc, to not work but bitch like crazy when their check is a dollar short.
