Crime Spree - with a Knife
- Police said three young robbers with knives — one as young as 13 — went on a North Side crime spree Monday afternoon, putting people in headlocks and stealing their phones, credit cards and cash.
The thieves pulled off six robberies around Lakeview, Bucktown and Lincoln Park, all between 3:45 p.m. and 5 p.m. Monday.
DNAInfo describes the actual robbers as such:
- Police described two robbers as boys between the ages of 13 and 17, around 5-feet-5 and about 150 pounds.
Yeah, right. The "police" left out the most obvious characteristic that might actually assist in apprehending the miscreants. They did describe the getaway driver though.

The mugging of the 3 grade schoolers near Wrightwood Park took place while the 19th district was in "Radio Assignments Pending" or "RAP" status. RAPs are declared by the Chicago Office of Emergency Management and Communications whenever there are no officers available to handle incoming 911 calls for a police district.
Chicago authorities do not release RAP statistics for specific neighborhoods, but CWB Chicago editors have been tracking RAPs independently since mid-2013.
According to our unofficial records, Monday's RAP was the 65th of the year for our 19th district--that's 22 more RAPs than were recorded in all of last year and 15 more than in 2014.

I work at OEMC. Half of the beat cars are assisting CFD. Not so much in Lakeview but definitely in the "commernity" since about 80% of the calls we and fire take are from the segment of society that hate first responders but can't seem to ever stop calling 9-11. Not blaming CFD it isn't their fault but majority of the calls from the south and west side needs the scene secured first. Hey! We need them. Think about it.

If this kid's mom voted for our anti-police president and/or his lapdog that he pawned onto us for mayor, she gets no sympathy from me. Most concealed carry folks understand what kind of hellhole the Lincoln Park and Wrigleyville areas are with all the police pulled to the south side. I know I avoid that area like the plague. Not to mention, in today's climate and I fully understand it is the wrong anwser, unless the person being threatened is a loved one or myself, I move out of the area. If the city was willing to railroad police officers over shooting a PCP'ed up MacDonald with a knife, I could only imagine what would happen to a regular Joe if he shot a 13 year old honor student and aspiring rapper.

That's EXACTLY why after getting my CCL I did three things:
1) Signed up for CCW Safe (https://ccwsafe.com/);
2) Signed up for Massad Ayoob's four day, 40-hour class for law-abiding private citizens (http://massadayoobgroup.com/mag-40/); and following that,
3) Signed up for Midwest Training Group's Advanced Handgun Skills class (http://www.tactical-life.com/tactics/advanced-handgun-skills-midwest-training-group/#midwest-training-group-bob-houzenga).
I do not want my loved ones and I to fall victim either to lawless thugs who would physically attack us or to an indifferent/hostile legal system that would attack us for political purposes.
This was costly additional training, but as all you LEOs know, it is only expensive in the short-term. In the long-term, it's a bargain.

CPD only has 468 vacancies
No mention of how many positions have been cut over the past few years.

Here's a hint for you: if you're in a headlock, you've already failed at defending yourself. Carry a gun. When someone comes up to you with a knife and tries to put you in a headlock, you shoot them. Then you can bend their fingers back if you want too. If you don't have a weapon, and you feel like getting stabbed for your cell phone, have at it. Please keep your idiotic advice to yourself before someone thinks you have a clue and does what you suggest.

I am an ex-Northside healthcare worker who did home health work in several different ghettos. This child did not rob your son (with a knife!) because he needed a cellphone. There is no one in Chicago who "needs" a cellphone; the government provides them if you are using other government services such as Section 8. However a stolen phone can be sold; I imagine a stolen phone would be quite useful if you are involved in an large illegal drug deal, just throw the phone away when the deal is completed. In case you are losing sleep over the thought of hungry children you may rest easy. Between food stamps, free school breakfasts and lunches, WIC, food banks and free dinners provided by local churches and soup lines there is no reason why any child should go hungry; it is just a question of priorities.

Just a thought, but if I get jumped from behind and find myself in a headlock, and I shoot the attacker in the nuts, instead of choosing any of the much larger and more vital targets on his body, why would I think his friends would run to his aid? They'd run off like the cowards they are. They weren't expecting a gun until their boy got shot, and their headlocks wouldn't be very effective against a gun, so why would they do anything but run away? Do you just watch old action movies with horrible scripts and pretend that the real world works the same way? It's honestly scary that you could be this dumb and still be allowed to carry a gun.
