Wrong parenting (if ANY), wrong school environment, wrong social ties and values, wrong people to hang out with and wrong neighborhood to try to live in. Ethics, values, attitudes - ALL WRONG and a bad (and lethal) influence.
There is enough blame to go around. A lawsuit is NOT going to fix anything. No more Ghetto Lotteries. No one is a "Winner" because nothing changes. Send a cop to jail- for doing his job? Try to paint it as some racism-based action to give the impression that "justice was served" and the street thug was somehow executed? Do you REALLY believe that narrative?
Would more programs help? like Midnight Basketball or some other program? I doubt it.
The Community - if you could even call it that - needs to come to grips and decide how they want to live on? The "community leaders" (and THAT is a stretch) need to decide to clean up their problems.
First, they have to accept that they DO have problems and OWN those problems. Those problems are not accepted by the rest of Society.
Time will tell on this case - but to assume the cop is guilty right upfront? That assumption has to be blown out of the water - RIGHT NOW.
Most people are NOT buying off on this Ghetto fairy tale.
Leadership in Chicago - from the Mayor's Office, to CPD, to YES - the Community Leaders (reverends, Aldermen, etc) need to face reality and not invent some fairy land.

I collared (literally) two obama youth that stuck a pistol in a lady's face for a carjacking. They ditched the gun before I finally got them, but they admitted what they did, witnesses ID'd them, said they had a gun, elderly victim ID'd them and ID'd same gun.
Hispanic judge dropped all charges because no one could prove there was a gun. They were let go as I was thinking they could have at least nailed them for littering or something. Asst DA told me judge does this all the time and to go public with this.

Sometimes, I dwell on the fact that Trayvon Martin wildly overreacted to being stalked. But then, some comment like this reminds me that many people are idiots who can't tell the different between a POS and a kid walking to his dad's house. And I think, yeah, maybe I can understand why Martin overreacted to being stalked.
