Huh?

Granted, we could use the help, but as a support unit, not as a partner:
  • Chicago police are teaming up with the Cook County Sheriff’s Department to combat violence in the city.

ABC7 reported that Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson and Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart said the partnership will place Cook County deputies in the patrol cars with officers in violent neighborhoods.

"We are going to put a Cook County sheriff's officer in a squad car with a Chicago police officer so that both entities can come together and help us tackle this crime because there are some things Cook County brings to the table that we just don't have, and vice versa," Johnson told the news station. "Like domestic issues they can arrest people for that we generally don't."
We don't arrest for domestics? That's news to us.

You know what we think? And someone posted it in a comment section yesterday - Chicago doesn't have enough squad cars and neither dies Dart, so we're combining underfunded agencies.

Exactly what are they bringing to the table that we don't have? From I can see they're just another body in the car. A body that doesn't have the street experience of working the west and south sides of Chicago. A body that is inadequately trained thanks to a hug a thug sheriff who's too scared to train his officers properly because of the liability. He'd rather spend the money on yoga and hormone therapy for cross gender inmates to show the voters how modern he is. Not that we're that much better but I don't see how sending us juice babies ( which comprises most of the CCSPD personel) is going to make things better. Now maybe if he sent some of his gang intelligence guys from the jail to work with us that would be a hell of a lot better.

The only thing this ridiculous arrangement will serve will be free press for the sheriff who has his eye on the mayor's office. God help us then. He should have molded his department to run like a real sheriffs dept sorta like when LAPD works with LA County. But here in Crook that will never happen. That ship sailed a long time ago. More smoke and mirrors bullshit. Ed should be ashamed of himself for entertaining the notion. What an embarrassment to the dept.

Hey maybe they can send us the two brave county officers who stood idley by as the female PO from 015 got her head bashed in.

So, if they start putting them (CCSP) on patrol with CPD in Englewood, what happens to the assignments and responsibilities that they previously held for the County?

Is the CPD going to pay for the deputies salaries while they are working in the city? Is this ANOTHER way for Mayor Murder to avoid hiring cops for CPD, like working OT on your day off?

This is to prepare for the impending merger. It has been done in several urban areas already in the 1990s and 2000. Examples include Louisville, Kentucky; St. Louis, Missouri; and most recently Indianapolis, Indiana. The biggest problem with this is the merging of "distinct cultures" which comes down to which style uniforms to wear, and what color to paint the cars, etc. Next, is how to merge the leadership and seniority issues.

Combining agencies is usually touted by politicians as a win "for looking out for the taxpayers fiscally" But the real reason the politicians do it is because, they know it fucks with the morale of the troops and they HATE us more than the citizens do!

Stay Fetal!

I'm not saying this to disparage everybody who works for the County. We all know there are some great ones there that we would have no issues working side by side with. However, and this is going back some time so I'm not even sure they still do it, but I remember the Special Olympics Torch Run while I was in the academy. A great cause undeniable. However , participation by members of both respective academies was mandatory. I'm no Adonis by any stretch of the imagination, nor were some of the CPD recruits but....WOW! We ran in platoons with our respective departments and while it appeared that our guys (CPD) held their own the same cannot be said of the County. I saw them falling out after a block and some of the drama was worthy of an Oscar. I remember asking a fellow CPD recruit who in their right mind would give that person a gun? He said "..."If you want standards you came to the wrong place brother, this is Cook County. You got a Chinaman you got a job". My apologies to all men from
China if I offended your sensibilities.

headline:Breaking News
Shootings down by half during snowy weekend in Chicago

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/ct-chicago-weekend-shootings-violence-20161212-story.html

Thankfully the geniuses at the tribune figured this out, bet 35th street but we are up over 40% in shootings sit down now gold star failures:

The number of people shot is also the most in decades: At least 4,170 people so far this year. With less than three weeks left in the year, that marks a 40 percent increase over the total number of shootings in 2015, according to Tribune data.

Three of the shootings over the weekend were fatal.

Lastly hard to watch this 94 year old ww2 veteran woman who was beaten by a savage animal look at her prayers sent to her:

Operation Santa is a two day campaign and will take place on December 10th and 11th. On those days, Santa and Mrs. Claus will board a Secret Service Presidential limousine and travel in a police motorcade throughout the Chicago area delivering gifts to our families. Santa, Mrs. Claus and their elves, accompanied by CPMF supporters and friends, will deliver holiday cheer while presenting the children of fallen and catastrophically injured officers with gifts which have been personally selected for them.

It is perhaps even more important that we remind our families that we will “Never Forget” their sacrifice, especially during the holidays. It is truly an uplifting experience.

Those guys are all pretty good to work with and know it's a shit show just like we do, and we more times than not just hang out and shoot the shit to pass the time

What happened to all the squad cars that were negotiated for in the last contract?

12/12/2016 12:13:00 AM

It boggles the mind why on earth the FOP would ever agree to put that in the contract. Screw the city, if they don't supply us with enough vehicles, I'll walk my beat, or sit in the station and wait for a call, then take the CTA there.
And on top of it, the city gives our money away to illegal aliens and criminals. Rahm really is sticking it in our ears. Yep, keep voting democratic while the democrats cut our throats at the same time. Lamp posts are too good for them.

Back in the early 90's it was $5,000 in an envelope to the right person to get on with Cook County. In the jail.... After you served your time there, it was $10,000 to get into a squad car. Wonder what the going rate is these days?

Just wait until Trumps DOJ pulls all law enforcement funding to sanctuary cities. A squad car with 200K miles will be a luxury. Bicycles will be the new response vehicle and the criminal will flourish in this cesspool.

12/12/2016 01:44:00 PM

Bicycles can actually move better than a car in a lot of situations...

Turf battles are silly and juvenile. We're all in this together. That doesn't mean there shouldn't be any concerns about whether officers unfamiliar with a community are more of a hindrance than help at times and this is something that needs to be sorted out. It's also kind of weird that the county doesn't have enough troops for the unincorporated areas so how can they hope to do much in the city?

That said, from 40+ years in law enforcement, my experience has been that cops in the boonies tend to be like Forrest Gump's box of chocolates: you never know what you're going to get. Go "up north" in cheeseland and half are local yokels and the other half extremely bright, intelligent, competent people who wouldn't last ten minutes in a bureaucracy and that's why they are there. Instead of government by committee or political correctness they pretty much get to do what they want and while they don't have the volume of calls they get to spend more time on a case. It's always been kind of cool to go up there or out west and meet coppers who are either the other brother Darryl or else built their own ninhydrin chambers for lifting fingerprints from documents. And it's amazing the equipment some of these places have. So I don't tend to automatically look down at others -- they have to earn it!!!

The way I heard it, all the county guys are CIT trained, so they will be riding with us on mental and domestic calls.

Great! I'll just dupe the job to them and go back in the hole.

And who is going to be dumb enough to stop the CPD squad and let them.

What is a juice baby?

Clouted! Someone who knows somebody else who can take care of them. Example: a Lt. who's niece who never worked the street when that Lt. was in charge, and still doesn't. "Juice Baby"

Hahaha.... Maybe instead of climbing in a car with a CPD officer the county guys should be more concerned with looking for their almost 500 electronic monitoring inmates that have gone AWOL since their big tough on crime Sheriff has release them to the streets in his hug-a-thug attempt to empty the jail. I'm guessing that might have a better effect on crime.

It's just catch , tag and release......Just like a shark or a whale so the mating and migratory habits can be studied........

That isn't what the CCSPD is responsible for. They are beat cops just like us and what most dont realize is they are more ballsy than some of those on this department. They work 99 and their backup could be 30 to 45 min away especially in this weather. They help us out a bunch on the west end of 008. Some live in the area so they hang out nearby to keep an eye on the home front. Clout baby's or not, they will bust someones head if you are in trouble. Truth is, the CCSPD academy they attend is far more rigorous than CPD. They train to work 99. It is a different academy than corrections so you can't compare them. Me? Been through both... CPD was a fuckn 6 and a half month vacation compared to CCSPD academy. CCSPD also has continuous training and I don't mean roll call videos either.

Don't talk shit when you don't have a clue what you are talking about. Especially about a group who will come to your aid when you need it most.

12/12/2016 05:40:00 AM

St Louis City did not merge with the county, in 1877 St Louis City separated from the county and became an 'Independent' city along with Baltimore and Carson City, the only 3 such cities outside Virginia. Creating the St Louis City Sheriffs Dept. and City Circuit Court system. At that time the County Sheriff and courts moved out of the city, county buildings were taken over by the city. Separating is the only solution for Chicago, they would then control everything. Of course the County would need to build a new jail outside the city . The burbs having a new voting base would have new choices for voting in County officials. Merging would NOT work here.(Read the WIKI..interesting)

Yes they do. Its a different form than ours but similar to our old contact card. Its state law.Every agency has them with the exception of ours being ten times longer and scrutinized by lawyers and aclu.

Yo Lance Armstrong, bikes belong in only 2 places: the lakefront and the beach during the summer. They have absolutely no business being in the hood at anytime.

The right thing to do is end the City police altogether, making all city cops sheriff's deputies rather than city cops. This takes Rahm out of the equation, it takes the city council out of the equation too. It puts the weight on the elected Sheriff, making them accountable to the voter, directly, as intended from the start.

If there is a scale difference, the higher scale controls. Pensions would be a bit tougher, but the solution there is a complete buy out and buy in process to move it from the city to the county. Rahm and co won't like it, but tough. Heck, Dart might not like it either, tough to him too.

It is past time our cops, and yes you are ours (your positions), are taken care of rather than used as political pawns and fall guys, as props. I wonder, what city cop would be against being a deputy rather than a mayoral pawn?

12 DEC @ 10:48 hrs. - An old state statute allows sheriffs to enforce local ordinances enacted within their county. Probably a throw back to when there were more deputies than local police. Now, a few civic groups are calling for metro agencies in order to save on vehicles, manpower, dispatching, and facilities. But are all these towns & villages going to give up local control of their police force? Probably not - each mayor/village president wants to be Commander in Chief of their own "army."
