The resumes have been submitted and interviews are on tap. This is all theater of course - the picks are already made:
- Wait 'till you see who they are going to make captain. Most will have been sergeants only two years ago. No one with five or more years in lieutenant grade. Certainly no one in the kma. Club
Anyone with the old "merit" lists should have them ready to compare. We're going to bet 80% of the new captains will have had at least one "merit" promotion in their immediate past.

I have resigned myself that there should only be one merit promotion on this job. However, the multiple merit promotions of Det, Sgt, Lt, and Capt for one person only reinforces the bad message sent to those in the ranks as to the lack of qualification/legitimacy of a person. What am I saying? This is Chicago!
If you are a Merit Lt you should not be able to get promoted for at least 5 years and you shouldn't be able to leave a district for 3 years
99 that's 99000 that's the most anyone should be able to take out of any pension. These asshole s are just increasing their pensions when they retire. Hill to Fat Phil it would save our pension and many others in Illinois.

All of the Lie-Tenants that are currently being investigated should be precluded from "making" Capt. until the Lie-Tenant investigation is complete.

According to the order, interviews are optional. The Sup is given a list and can pick whoever is on it, no need for interviews.
Anyone know their plan with the captains? Are they going back to one captain per watch and 2 Lt's?
Maybe something our Union should ask for in the next contract......only ONE merit promotion in a career with CPD......and how about some transparency in the contract where promotions are concerned? Rank order of promotees, along with rank order number of merit promotees.
Way too many double and triple merits leading this ship nowadays..........which may account for the current sad state of HQ.....just saying...
Wouldn't help with the Captain promotions, since that's ALL done merit-wise, (aka the who's who in politics).but might just bring some quality, knowledgeable leaders up to the top!

As a "never meritoriously" promoted Lt that applied for Captain, I am curious to see the outcome as well...........Folks that are promoted by test score only, very rarely fare well on this job!

The pool of supervisory candidates is so tainted and skewed politically from the days of yore. Lots of goobs to choose from sackless boot lickers to softies all towing the obama line. Selling out, squealing and taking more than your share is socially acceptable.
If they just went back to Capt (Watch Comm) testing and eliminate the hacks that develop the test questions, stop sorting/categorizing the results and reduce merit to only those with Line of Duty and Field accomplishments maybe the lower rungs will get a boost in morale.
Wake me when this happens.

Was not a triple merit, made it by rank order on all promotions. He's a good dude, if you have a problem with him you must be a real POS to work with. If you are jealous of him that's fine but he made it on his own. Yes he's dad made commander right before he retired, I would hardly say his old man made it big time.

Glad I retired. Didn't take me long to figure that nothing on the job is legit. Just look at the assholes that get elected mayor. Then there's the aldermen but that's another bowl of corruption. The Lts are in school now, so are the Detectives and FTO's. Capt's are next then Sgts, then Detectives again. How many of each are they making. Is this going to be done before summer or by the end of the year?

Unless Capt's start working as wat h commanders again. He also said that in that case all Lts
Get back pay for the years that they have worked since as watch commanders. Lts are being

Wiberg and his daddy were instructors at the academy when I went through and the old man was OK, the kid was actually pretty good. The Lt. that died as 1st Deputy Superintendent (John Thomas? I'm a senior now, give my memory a break) was an instructor also, he was great, I was impressed with the quality of some of the people for a couple of months and then I met the rest of the turds.

I've never heard anything about him being a merit promotee. If he is, I see him as an example of what a true merit pick should be. He knows his shit, takes care of the people under his supervision, does his job and does it well, goes out on the street and actually does police work when we all know a Lt doesn't have to do anything like that anymore, and is just an all-around great guy. If you have anything negative to say about him, you've either never met him, or you have an axe to grind for some reason. If every boss on this shitty job was half the man he is, this department would be great again. You should hope he gets promoted as high as possible as quickly as possible. Yes, his dad was a boss, and a good one from what I know of him. I'm sure his dad's career didn't hurt him and probably helped him at least a few times. I'd work for Lt Wiberg any day over almost any other boss I've had on this job, particularly over the last 10 years. Most of the great bosses are long gone. It actually sounds like you're a Lt who's upset that Wiberg got 020 tact when you think you deserved it or something. The bitterness and completely off-base characterization of a great boss and great person just reeks of jealousy. You'll have to provide some pretty compelling evidence to convince anyone who knows him that he's somehow undeserving or unfit to be where he is. Those of us who have actually met him, worked with him, or even talked to him for 30 seconds, know you're full of shit.

That's exactly what they'll be. Captains will be watch commanders. Lts weren't working as watch commanders. They were working as Watch Operations Lts, with different responsibilities than a Captain had as a watch commander. You can't get back pay for working a position that didn't exist. What will they be doing with the captains in your scenario? Will they be assistant XOs or are we going to have a bunch of useless captains running around as inspectors? Maybe we'll get more boats and they can be captains of the ships. Maybe you can be Gilligan.

Probably too dumb and uninvolved to bother learning who the officers are, so a seating chart is the answer. If you sit in the wrong seat, you have to write on the blackboard "I will not confuse the overpromoted hack" 100 times. Is the captain actually at roll call?

Captain SS is a micromanager. He lacks basic people skills. A very nice guy, friendly but will not give you anything. He is strict on rules and uniforms. He should not be in a fast district as 011 and instead work in a slower district. How do you tell overworked officers to seat in your assigned seat?
Lt. Rubino from 17 is ok, but she was merit sgt and merit lt. Doesn't have the knowledge or skills to manage properly.
If fathead Ed wants promotions to come from Patrol start with this. Little Eddie W needs another merit spot though

You must be a hair gel. My generation was taught basic manners, such as if someone is speaking to you, you pay attention. That's just common curtesy. Damn kids constantly on their phone as if thier life depends on it.
It should be 1 merit promotion for entire career. Haven't they shown the more merit promotions a person gets they are terrible bosses
