This program in the early 90s sparked more residency issues with the dept than you could imagine. This time it won't be any different. Watch home many officers take the property but sell their current home on northwest/southwest side and now family lives in burbs.

The city cannot force your family to live in the city, only you. And, they cannot take your job from you if your family moves to the burbs. And, you only need to lay your head down in your city residence on your work days. On your days off you can sleep anywhere you want. Pay your city taxes, register to vote in the city and sleep there on your work days and you are good to go. But, few people can afford this duel arrangement.But, a free house in Englewood might help. But, each night you come home you would feel like Charles Heston in " The Omega Man". You would have to get inside and lock down and lock and load before it gets dark. Don't come out until morning and especially don't get involved in any police work off duty near your home. At the most call 911.
