If you can stomach it, this is the link to the transcript. They make Dart out to be some sort of New-Age turnkey, when in reality his policies are a contributing factor to the skyrocketing shooting and homicide rates. He also misses the point of jail:
- On any given day we have probably 2 to 3 hundred people that if they came up $500 they would leave here but we find that if you have access to money wherever it may come from, and frequently it's coming from your gang and if you happen to be the guy in your gang who is the guy who does most of the shootings, you're a very valuable person, they want you back out on the street. But you have some individual who's in here who's never been a danger to anybody, he can't come up with a hundred dollars. He's sitting…the guy with the gun, he's out the door.
Tell you what there Tommy - come up with the money out of your pocket. Or some of the media spouses with the six-figure jobs - you can call it "Sponsor an Inmate" and they can go home and meet the family or something.

The law says there has to be a cash retainer to guarantee their appearance in Court and guess what? That guy with the Probation Violation? We don't care if he's non-violent - he obviously can't live by the rules, so he sits until someone somehow makes it uncomfortable enough for him to learn that abiding by the rules is cheaper than not.
Dart's supplying people connected to the media with jobs is paying dividends, so he must be thinking of higher office.

Kind of off topic...if a local politician proposes a mixed unit building with some of the units at market rate that politician must live in that building in a market rate unit, or at least within 500 feet of it.

Isn't in nice that the sheriff can glad hand all the inmates and then treat the corrections officers like shit. He did a follow up to the 60 Minutes puff piece by making an appearance on the Channel 9 morning news. He's not a shrink, he's not law enforcement and the last time I looked, the Cook County Jail is a piece of property subsidized by the taxes levied on the Citizens of Cook County, so its not "his" jail. This guy should have been a social worker. He has shoe horned himself into every government position he's held and then cherry picked his responsibilities which run contrary to the duties of the office he's sworn an oath to uphold. We don't need pizza parties, kitty rescues, oversite on government construction projects. Sheahan made do with 13,000 inmates and this guy whines about having 7,000. Its not his job to legislate state statutes regarding posting of bond, not his job to file lawsuits against Craigslist or Backpage, not his job to rehabilitate whores. Last time I looked the responsibilities of the Cook County sheriff pertained to oversight of the jail, providing security to the municipal court system and providing law enforcement to the unincorporated areas of Cook County. If he wanted to cozy up to the scum of Cook County, he should have sucked up to the committeeman to see if they could place him in the Dept of Human Services. And as stated before, his courting of the media, and their spouses and offspring, while remaining indifferent to the safety of his corrections officers has those of us who pay taxes to fund his circus, scratching our heads. Enough already.

....the dead days--once finally get day in court do they plea bargain down to a lesser charge/ drop most serious charges-- - so it looks like they overextended their stay....how long does it take someone to get to trial- and why is it so long
mental illness day program--what types of diagnosis-substance abuse, schizophrenia, depression??.... been to a nursing home call lately- they have plenty of residents with a mental diagnosis and a rap sheet ---who are happy to be out of jail, doing dope and not actually being treated for anything
The interview was total fluff and I thought the same thing - "he must be running for office".
There were no hard questions asked, the shootings and killings by early-release was never brought up. The entire interview was gross because I knew it was total propaganda, but others out there will be lapping it up as truth.

I heard the Sheriff on WGN Steve Cochran radio this morning repeating the same lie that guard attacks are record low and most of his guards respect him and his policies. almost crashed my car I was so pissed. How does he get away with this BS and lies. This would almost be akin to saying Chicago crime is at record lows. That's how big of a whopper he is telling.
