Ah, California, is there nothing you won't spend taxpayer money on?
- In today's episode of "Why The Hell Do I Bother To Work For a Living," we learn that the city of Sacramento, California, has decided to purchase a fleet of cars that will be made available, free of charge, to 300 residents already using that city's public housing.
The $1.3 million used to pay for what the Sacramento Bee calls a "mini fleet," came from the state's California Environmental Protection Agency, which in turn got the money by blackmailing local businesses with cap-and-trade fines.
Gas, maintenance and insurance will also be paid for by the state, which can only mean that the $1.3 million is just the beginning of yet-another very expensive government debacle, but one that will never be repealed because if you take away people's free cars they will die.
As the article goes on to state, California is trying to convince everyone to give up their cars because cars are evil, polluting (and probably racist) machines. But the government is willing to give away electric cars to public housing residents who already receive housing free of charge, utilities free of charge, food free of charge, etc.

How much money is also being set aside to handle the law suits against the city when they are used in drive bys, robberies and other imaginative "work" ventures.

I'm waiting for Kalifornia to raise the personal state income tax to 50% for those making over $100K, so those on the gov teat on get more freebies.
The only thing that prevent Illinois from giving away free electric cars is that our winters are so cold. Otherwise Madigan and Cullerton would be jumping on that bandwagon in order to ensure their re-election into perpetuity.

Here is the rub - the more rural people, especially the soakers who grew up soakers but moved outside the "inner" city are still expecting their soaking rights to be fulfilled. That is the purpose of this "pilot program" - to A) facilitate the complainers demands for free stuff and B) stave off the Equal Protection claims that are finally brewing on the "inner" city versus suburban traveling public. Is it silly? Of course, which is why it hasn't come to a head before now, but let's face it, generations of gibsmedats are branching out further and further.

If there's one thing the residents of public housing are known for, it's their valid driver's licenses and impeccable driving skills. Let's give free cars to people who shouldn't be driving. Shit, let's give free guns and ammo to people who shouldn't own guns. It would be nice if these lazy fucks had to actually earn something themselves. Handouts do nothing to improve the problem. Handouts just ensure that the problem will be sustained for multiple future generations. Where is the incentive to get a job or make some effort to better yourself?
