State Budget Hole Got Deeper
Good thing the legislature is in session - they can write a check:
- As the deadline to pass a budget before another credit downgrade approached, a federal judge ordered the State of Illinois to make more than $500 million each month in Medicaid payments.
U.S. District Judge Joan Lefkow ordered the state to pay $586 million a month for Medicaid vouchers that come in after June 30, along with another $2 billion the state owes to managed care organizations, which process payments to health care providers, according to court records.
Her order came after a hearings this week in Chicago in a lawsuit over $2 billion in unpaid Medicaid bills.
MAdigan's proposed budget contains another $5 Billion shortage from anticipated revenues, and that's before another ten thousand or twenty thousand or more people leave Illinois.

A massive rise in taxes will be necessary to bail the state out of the mess the pols have put it into over the decades. Even if they did reform spending, as if that stands a chance, they hole is so deep taxes will get jacked up more than Sammy Sosa ever did.
We are clearly seeing that our Elected Leaders, are not doing well as leaders. Three years without a budget is a record unequaled by any state. The loss of lottery revenue alone is estimated at over $200,000 per day. How is it that Illinois is so dysfunctional? In the past "Da Mayer", King Richard the First, or his scion, "LIL Dick" could go to the capitol, and make it work. However, Rahm the tough guy from Wilmette is not involved, perhaps because he knows, that the rest of the state is neither impressed or intimidated by him, even though his City and County generate more revenue than any of the other 101 counties. And Chicago and Cook County also absorb more revenue. When the Civil War was breaking out in the 19th Century, there was a movement to divide Illinois into to separate states, as with West Virginia and Virginia, the statesman Douglas stopped it. Yet we may be seeing an unspoken version of that today. The legislature is too top heavy with Chicago hack Democrats. Cullerton and Madigan are both from Chicago. Remember there are 102 counties in Illinois; and the rest of the state no longer wants to be led by Chicago. Collar Counties have better public schools, and much less violent crime. Why should they seek leadership from Chicago? Why should suburban Cook County pay for a County Hospital they do not use. Down State has always resented Chicago's wealth, and does not want to put Chicago's problems ahead of their own. A few years back, some suburban areas of Cook County wanted to secede from the County, and that may yet be an issue. We are witnessing some amazing times in Illinois, and they are not good. More taxes are coming, and more people/folks are leaving. Chicago will never be Newark, but Detroit; Maybe. Baby "G"
See that's the answer. The Chicago Police department doesn't need federal court oversight the state legislature and the city council need federal court oversight. Maybe then the politicians will pay their bills and obligations like our pension payments before giving our tax money to their very needy high maintenance democratic voters who seem to have plenty of money for guns and drugs but not enough to feed their larva during the summer.
I love how the dedicated Illinois politicians adjourned for the day in the afternoon. I guess they are going to come charging in before the crack of noon on Saturday at 11:00.
Hard work and dogged determination like this from our legislature is why Illinois is broke. Don't you wish you could just go home at the end of the shift, even if the ENTIRE F#%€£¥NG STATE IS BURNING DOWN???

I keep getting a picture in my head of these two idiots going home at night, getting bound and gagged with leather straps and then asking someone to whip them while they scream "Mommy, give me more, I've been a very naughty boy today". Then calling each other in the morning and bragging how brave they were.
Maybe someone out there can explain to me what the state has been doing with three years worth of taxes collected from income, gas and various other transactions? If there's no budget we should have a big pot of money sitting somewhere idly.

Lottery money, where is it? My cable is supposedly 99 a month right, bullshit, after taxes and fees it is 173.00. Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, all taxed now. Cell, local taxes 40 a month. So where the fuck does that money go?

New laws took affect July 1 in Florida. Besides a BUDGET. Law enforcement HB 305, allows law enforcement officers to review footage from their body cameras before filling out reports. Education SB 436 deals with religious expression in schools. Prevents school districts from discrimination against students parents employees on the basis of religious viewpoints or expressions. Yes you do live in bizarro State. Illinois is a joke to the rest of the country. Illinois is the opposite of civilized states and results are evident.

For YEARS, these bastards have been grifting away in the shadows, pretending everything is fine while they run the state and the country into the ground. Weasel words and platitudes were offered up if their lunacy was questioned, everything had an explanation, a glib response, and if that didn't cut it, accusations of phobias and racism for those who dared challenge them.
And now the chickens are coming home to roost. NJ and CT and ME are in the same boat and it is about damn time. Bankruptcy is the only option. Let the Feds do a forensic audit of the Chicago's, Crook County's,and Illinois's 'books.'
Put the whole state on a budget diet with federal oversight. Do to Illinois and Chicago what the EU did to the "PIGS" countries (i.e., forced balanced budgets with austerity measures).
Any more taxes to pay for the public employee pensions, and the only people left in the state will be Link Card and Section-8 recepients, and then your sacred pensions will be in I.O.U.s that will never be paid.
BTW, where's that downtown casino that was going to turn out enough profits to fill the city's pension deficits?
