Hiring Lull

There's almost no chance Rahm is going to hit his "100 a month" goal.

There's even less of a chance that the media will call him out on it.

The Academy is almost vacant due to the run-up to training the entire Department in a three-month span on the new Non-Use of Force. And prospects for hiring aren't looking good once the training is over:
  • Rahm claimed that 15,000 people signed up for the latest police test, touting minority outreach and recruitment;
  • Final tally? Only 7,437 tests were graded.
That's under 50% participation, even with the City waiving the fee in many cases. From past experience,
  • around 60% pass (down to 4462)
  • half of that total don't bother with any further testing (2231)
  • 25% fail background and drug testing (1673)
Unless Rahm is lowering the bar completely, this list is done by winter.

I have spoken to and know of many that would like to be a Chicago Police officer but the residency requirement is a deal breaker. Educated and qualified people that live outside Chicago DO NOT WANT TO LIVE HERE! Chicago is losing great applicants due to the antiquated residency requirement. It's the year 2017. We need to get with the times and attract better and more applicants. Especially since law enforcement has become a less desirable career.

About 15,000 took the test, 7400 passed. If past performance is any indication, we'll hire about 1500 from this test. Another test is planned for the end of the year.

And there's several hundred recruits in the academy now. BTW, the academy will not be the facility used to train the use of force policy.

The academy is full, teaching non-use of force tactics? Is this the Marilyn Mosby class called "Give'em room to destroy"? Or Kimmie Fox's "Let them kill"?
It's all bullshit. A Police Officers very presence should be enough to calm an unstable situation, and he's only effective when people believe he will take control of any situation, by force, if necessary.
People call the Police when the shit hits the fan. They don't call their local church and ask for choirboys. When assholes are being assholes, the "long arm of the law" should be a strong arm. (And maybe just a little bit unpredictable.)

Washington DC lowered their hiring standards in the 80's and had a disaster. I would not bet against the mayor and the black alderman doing the same in Chicago. It seems they are on a hard road to believing that the answer to their problems is more and more minorities on the police force as only minority cops can relate to the minority community. Besides being a racist theory with no proof or validity at all, this end result will give them power and control which is what the political class currently in power in Cook County really want.

I'm sure plenty of beyond low standards filtered through the inept HR, they hire by social merit now.

Rahm is Phony as the proverbial $3 bill.
Before every election, Democrats like Rahm lie and everybody forgets what was promised.
Nobody challenges his broken promises. Unlike obstructing the Governor, 48 Alderthieves give him a free ride when he panders to their constituants. He's holding his re-election trick cards for the end of 2017 and into mid 2018.

The next Democrat for mayor will be even worse.
And all candidates will be using crime, racist whites polices and finances as the talking points.

The only thing we can do is vote to get a run-off and make them drain their war chests.
Rahm has nowhere to turn to but sell or giveaway whatever's left of the City.
He's only in it to now destroy the city for the next thief - no honor.

Carpetbagging thief only came back to Chicago to save ShortShanks and wait for Hillary.
He's as done as Dart.

An extra 1000 po's on the street this weekend won't change anything. You haven't learned that yet. It hasn't slowed down the murder rate. Last year we had an extra in quite a few weekends and the murder rate went up. What almost 800

To the poster, you are so full of shit thinking that the private vendor mentioned has ANY say who CPD hires. In the process, They just check history of traffic issues, credit issues and situations when, "the the want to be police used narcotics and what kind."
Believe me, I know tenured retired dicks that are on contract to do the home interviews. All the questions are what the "want to be the police", entered on the form they filled out and sent to H.R at CPD. Want to find out who makes the decision to hire or not, look no further then the powers to be at headquarters.

Just as simple when the CPD used to do it in house. So get your facts straight buddy ! Did your kid get rejected because he is on an anti psychotic drug from his shrink. Ever hear of HEPA law, all medical issues are not covered by background people. The M.D who does the physical exam and the shrink ask those questions.

You wants people with a star and gun on street that are unstable ? All coppers !

Fuck you, snowflake. So all or the vast majority of vets are physically, mentally and emotionally damaged and don't think critically with foresight for the actions they take?! I'm a cop and a combat veteran that is proud of my service, despite disparaging remarks by weak keyboard warriors like yourself. Also, it's not "Washington" that has been at war for 16 years; the U.S. has been at war with global terrorist networks. Let me gues "bu bu bu buuuuuut Iraq...". Yeah, dickhead, other enemies existed aside from Iraq. I just don't see how you managed to work a whole post about horribly disabled veterans and a monolithic assertion that most of all vets are unstable and make bad decisions when there was no mention by SCC pleading for or mentioning vets coming to take this job. I do know you're a moron. Don't worry, those terrible veterans aren't the ones that you should be losing sleep over.

Took the test in 2016, passed power and poly with nothing in my background for a dq. My app has been sitting in city review for months already. Guessing they can just sit on mine and not make a decision.

Try this....took test in 2013, passed everything including background through kentech and poly, not dq'd. My app has been sitting in city review for a year. Already hired elsewhere and couldn't be happier! They don't respect who you are as an applicant now..what makes you think they will respect you as an employee? CPD is not worth waiting around. ever. Apply, apply, apply. (elsewhere)

The academy is pretty filled with recruits right now actually...

He' right. It's also looking like more applicants are getting polys lately. Also, a class of anywhere from 80 to 100 new recruits comes in every month.

Any reason why Academy personnel was not RDO cancelled for the holiday weekend but all of Patrol was?!? Could this be true for 35th street personnel too?

Different bureaus, different responsibilities, different rules. You asked. It's kind of the same reason, I can be told tomorrow that my start time is 2200 hours then the next day 0900. It's happened to me before. I can also be sent on out of unit details with over 25 years on the job when there are people in the building who aren't required to go. I am not crying a river. You asked.

Agreed get rid of college requirement. Get some bodies on this job. If the military can accept people with no college so should the police. These kids are trained to use multi million dollar equiptment. This is a blue collar job. You don't need college to be the police.
