- More than one of every three Chicago city workers made $100,000 or more last year — including 36 who topped Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s $216,210 salary, a Chicago Sun-Times analysis has found.
The number of city workers making more than Emanuel was up from 26 in a similar review by the Sun-Times in 2015. And the percentage of city employees topping the $100,000 mark is up slightly since then.
Topping the city’s six-figure-pay club was Aviation Commissioner Ginger Evans at $400,000.
You can read the list, but evidently, the best job in the city nowadays is "undercover police sergeant" with three of the top ten spots being occupied by that title.

And a few of those names (actually more than a few) are retired guys that were getting their comp time payouts. Not actual salaries but monies owed to them by the city. More shitty reporting.
Rahm Emanuel always boasts about the City Colleges of Chicago, which have suffered from chronic mismanagement, waste and fraud during his mayoralty.
Adjunct instructors teach sixty percent of the classes at the City Colleges, but have not had a contract in five years. Two unfair labor practice complaints were upheld against the City Colleges for not bargaining in good faith with the part-time faculty union.
If you are a unionized employee watch out for Emanuel. He will screw labor as often as possible.

The city typically pays out what they are owed over three years when they retire, with three annual payments. That practice drew scrutiny from City Hall Inspector General Joseph Ferguson, who, in a report in May, cited the example of a sergeant having banked nearly $800,000 in comp time. “This particularly expensive element of CPD contracts should be carefully evaluated in the 2017 . . . negotiations,” his report said.

Five of the city’s 44 contracts with labor unions expired on June 30, and City Hall wants them to consider the city’s financial troubles when they negotiate new deals.

For the naysayers out there, Donny worked midnights for years. He then went to court after working and was sat in court all day as he was also an ET. Donny also looked like death warmed over. Working midnights will do that to you. If you think it's easy, try working from 1100 PM till 730 AM and then going to court. It will kill you. Working overtime anywhere is hard but when you do it on midnights it's twice as hard.

Jobs for votes - its the Democratic way. They don't care about the taxpayer (or anyone else) as-long as they can get re-elected.
The idea with "Civil Service" was that you'd make less than you would in private industry, but we'd take care of you in your old age with a pension. That was the "Social Contract".
But I'd argue that once your salary meets or exceeds what you'd make in private industry, that we no longer ought to fund a pension.
Basically as your salary goes up, our pension contributions ought to go down, and hit zero at about $100,000/yr.
What does that person do for $400K/yr? Because that's an insane salary for some bullshit job like running the airports....

I guess it's better getting stung then shot, I'm just saying. Speaking of Wisconsin and bugs, I do a lot of activity in north central area, near Phillips. I to have a swamp, creek, and a lake. Some summers are worst then others. About two years ago there was two late freezes and there was a moderate amount of bugs that year. This years bugs were what call slightly above average.
That job is not worth the $400,000 price tag, with a car and the other benny's.
Now if they can get another property tax hike, even more city employees will make over $100,000.00 a year. Might have to make up a bunch more useless positions, but that's not a problem. Democrats are great at spending someone else's dollars.

Salary plus overtime. For example the one guys on there is a huge DUI writer. he works midnights and writes Duis at night and goes to court at multiple court rooms just about every day.

Years ago city workers made less than private sector , but were guaranteed 40 hours , paid holidays ,vacation ,health insurance and a pension. Now tradesmen are making prevailing wages , work a few hours a day , get loads of overtime for selling souls to Democratic Party .

I don't choose to work more than 40 hours per week to get by--I do it because I need the extra money to afford to live here ....

Guess again junior!! Their time due gets FROZEN, meaning they cannot use it until they return to their civil service rank. It will be there when he retires. They get no BFD, PDays and no supervisor quarterly checks and cannot sell back 200 hours a year.

There are plenty of "suburban" cops that work in shithole towns that work 12 hour overnight shifts, then go to 9am court until noon, then go back to another 12 hour overnight. If this guy looked like death warmed over, he was doing something wrong. Also with that much time OTJ he should have been able to bid to a day shift. It sounds like he wanted the OT. That's his business.
All of that aside, if that is comp time he EARNED it. That's what the media should be saying. This wasn't part of his regular pay unlike hacks like Ginger Evans who made an ANNUAL SALARY of almost twice this Sgt.'s one-time payout. It wasn't like he was given magical free hours. He put that time on the books and didn't use it. (I also doubt he was denied time-due to the tune of thousands of hours of comp time - especially with the seniority inherent with reaching retirement age.) It's too bad the MSM doesn't report the truth instead of running slanted stories that suit their political agenda.
I hope this Sgt. retired far away from Shitcago and lives many years to enjoy his retirement. And fuck these rag "newspapers". I wouldn't paper a birdcage with that drivel.

Great job money wise, but looking at the landscape now every extra hour you work especially in the anti-police ghettos, that is time from your family that may be extended time in prison when you lose your freedom-family-home all they have to do is throw you into the dishonest 24/7 media mixer and bam your done! Eddie will immediately strip you,and put you in no pay status (which means no health insurance either for you or your entire family), the investigation can take a long time as you sit and wait!
Wake up look at all the old cases being reopened, take a minute some alone time and think back on everything you may have did in your career and realize at any time they can reopen it and off you go on the wheel of misfortune!
Then you look at the coppers who relax, take their time, reactive no proactive policing, writing a report, advising warrants those coppers retire peacefully,and no worries! You say but I'm the "real police" a "hard charger" want to "impress my boss" because he/she is "great" and "has my back" that is funny it really is! When your sitting in federal court and are asked "state your assets and liabilities" your in that cold chair looking at the crowd, family in tears, you hear sobs look around where is that "boss?" Yep not their! that "boss" is relaxing, getting that 6 figure pension and thinking "I did it my way!" Family-health-pension-freedom-protect blue if anything else enters your mind on the streets resign immediately!!
I am happy to say I am one of those city employees and I rarely work overtime. Most trades are in that pay range.
Two things...
One. I should have never turned down CFD (long story, one of my only regrets in life). I'd be making north of 100K today...
Two. I should have asked family for a job. I'd be making 50% more than I am now. With less education required. I guess that is what being self-sufficient gets you?

The Comments made above by the person commenting on our CPD Bosses is SO RIGHT , they dont care the slightest bit about you , you bring them any heat and your GONE , and he doesn't want to have anything to do with you , and they'll even say dont come near me or talk to me anymore , and you had them over for Dinner or a Cook out at your House , BUT they SURE cheated on there Lieutenants exam like the Lt at OHare did , SHOULD I MENTION NAMES , and as they see you get thrown under the Bus , they are no where around to help out a Partner at all. But there SURE ready to Kick your Ass goodbye out of a Job and continue there Great Careers and even DOUBLE DIP to another Job while you and your Family suffers.
