Yes, good for them and bad for the Department. When you get on the job and take the oath you put aside your political, religious or otherwise and you follow the law. That's the beauty of the job. There is no religion or color just blue. Nepotism, oh yeah! But show where that doesn't exists. All in all, when you and partner answer a call its you and your partner and everyone else in blue trying to make good out of what otherwise is a shitty moment. You find out fast too that color doesn't matter. Race doesn't matter. You learn everyone is f^cked up. What would be said of two white officers if they took an apposing side? I would say I'd feel the way I do now. That I don't believe I'll be able to rely on help from either side if I'm not of the same religion, color, or ethnic background because now blue doesn't matter. In its own way, BLM and the politicians have created a divide to the likes I haven't seen in this department. I've served with a great number of former and current members of all races in this department and always felt honored to have done so, because of the bond we have as blue. I have been greeted and treated by retired members all over this country regardless of my color with a kinship the likes of no other job I've had in the past because of the job.
We can't afford to let these politicians or BLM win.

I cut my teeth on third watch in 006 17 years ago. I had a great time and worked and learned from some great officers. That knowledge helped me get promoted to Sergeant off of the list before the current one. It was a great place to learn. I've since moved on to better gigs but it all goes back to those days and where I came from. It's sad if those officers are from 006. I love my job and the officers I work with and currently have the honor to supervise. At some point the pendulum will break free and swing back the other way. Until then stay safe, look out for each other, educate the new officers, and go home to your family. Those are the most important orders of your tour.

As a Joe taxpayer, I find what those officers did to be racist and I want something done. Do they treat Europeans differently than Non Europeans? Is a traffic stop handled the same way? Am I more likely to be ticketed or arrested by them because of my skin color? That can be determined by their arrest history and traffic study cards right? The city and police dept just set a dangerous precedent on how future in public and on duty racists or racial incidents are to be handled. What about a confederate battle flag? It's a piece of history, but is considered racist.. by who and what's going to happen if an officer flys one in a pic on duty? Or has a stripper sit in his lap in an on duty pic? Oh wait, that already happened and the officer was giver full weight of discipline. My point is, if your not going to do shit about a public racist incident involving on duty uniformed officers now, you better not do it later. I'm surprised a lawyer hasn't jumped all over this one just for sport to pull CPD's ears back hard.

On a related matter, last night Episode 7 of Ken Burns series on The Viet Nam War premiered. It featured a lot of footage, much of it I had not see before of the Chicago Police mixing it up with rioters during the 1968 Democratic Convention. A lot of those protestors came to do violence and destruction and would have torn that convention apart and stopped the democratic process.
There was even a flash in the film of Deputy Superintendent James Rochford. That's when bosses had balls and led from the front.
A note to politicians and lodge officials: The Chicago Police Department need never apologize for their actions which kept the '68 DNC from being overrun and shut down by rioters.
Another Note: One of the things that happened as a result of the '68 DNC was that Sergeants were given white shirts. There were Sergeants in those melees but you couldn't tell because they wore blue shirts.
How can any other po trust these two bozos to have their back in a real confrontation in the ghetto.

NYPD Sgts still wear the same color shirt as PO's. A white shirt goes to most Sgts heads and makes them feel they're management. In reality your just the equivalent of a McDonalds assistant manager.

A few months back, I (M-2) walked a (F-1) victim to her car at night, after an interview. Englewood Barbie was in the 002 lobby with a raucous crowd of do-gooders.

Certain cities, countries, institutions are too far gone to be reformed or saved. Baltimore ain't coming back. Neither is Zimbabwe. I don't see college or NFL football coming back. Sure it's nice to remember the Lombardi Packers or Ditka Bears glory days. Walter Payton nor anyone else made a BlackLiesMatter ass out of themselves under Coach Ditka. Well, there was the god awful "Superbowl Shuffle".
So support some other sports like college hockey. I highly recommend tennis as both a spectator sport or to play. I'm playing better tennis in my mid 50s than I did when I was 18. These current BlackLiesMatter NFL idiots won't be able to walk when they turn 50. Tennis is a very White sport and the Black AA, mixed race tennis players tend to show good sportsmanship. The Black AA coach of the women's US open tennis championship is a bright, very positive young man and he's local Chicago and is promoting tennis in a big way.

Obama came out against the police in Ferguson and was 100% wrong. Then he continued to beat the drum against the police "question authority." I hope folks realize that in this department weather you like another cop or dislike his color we all respond to a call for help. I was on the job for 40 years and spent most of the time in high crime areas and not once did I fail to respond for a black or other minorities call for help. As a supervisor I would never allow this to happen. When a minority offenderclaims police mistreated him it's after his lawyers think that complaining may ease his case. But police publicly protesting in uniform and on duty should be dealt with more then a reprimand, this conduct will grow just watch.

Retired after 33 years/4months I have never seen a case of police brutality on the job and I have worked in 11 and 15. Resisting arrests videos will always be looked upon by the mainstream media and the public as horrible police brutality and racist. What if the officers took a knee in protest of the Cook County Justice industrial complex that allows criminals to be released back into communities of color only to perpetrate more crime against people of color in the revolving door of no justice, no accountability what so ever.
If the officers would symbolically take that knee raising the awareness of the proliferation of illegal narcotics, alcoholism and drug addiction that decimates their community and hit the streets rolling up their sleeves implementing election hype-type hope and change.
The officers need to take a knee raising awareness for the need for pride in one's community leading by example putting to work a broom, rake and shovel cleaning those alleys as role models in the community they serve much like the 011th District officers did

But, consider the mindset. Your complaint would probably be made to a white-shirt of color and they can turn it around on you whether they comply with your demand or not. They will be calling you the racist and being tagged as a racist is impossible to disprove or defend. And, espousing that you have black friends will not cut it or clear your name (sarcasm). I have experienced it, seen it and been there too many times.

I will not bother with the moron, but technically, sergeants are not management. Management and being a command staff membership begins at the level of lieutenant. Sergeants are supervisors, but are not management. That is why being a sergeant is the worst level on our job. They get it from both sides because they are really not in either club, management or labor.
However, there are four good things about being a sergeant. You get a raise, you get to take the test for lieutenant and possibly advance beyond sergeant, you don't have to be concerned about working in the same car with a jerk and you receive a better pension when you leave the job.

More that once as W.C. I had to do investigations and write reports on B/S allegations he made on cops. Had to question and pin him down on points. Like he didn't see what happen it what was told to him by a gangbanger neighbor or other nonsense. I'm glad I'm now retired too and don't have to listen to his crap. I hope whoever are the bosses in that district now treat this guy like the goof he is and protects the officers.
