- Long before she was Queen Sugar, Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle was an opponent of small business owner/operators responsible for 2/3rds of the jobs in this country.
In a forum Dan Proft moderated in 2013, former Utah State Sen. Dan Liljenquist told the story of when he met with Preckwinkle about the Institute for Justice's Clinic for Entrepreneurship during which she said,
"I'm opposed to self employment. You give these people false hopes that they could ever earn a living on their own."
She'll see Obama's "you didn't build that" and raise you a "you didn't earn that."
One might think to ask the follow-up, if there is no self-employment, who would create the jobs?
The only available answer once you eliminate the entrepreneur is government. And a government-driven, government-dominated society is the foundation of fascism.

Prickwinkle's next job is showing her mug which can scare rats of a cheese truck. An easy job like being on the County Boards
Preckwinkle was an Alderman in a Southside Ward that produced nothing more than welfare recipients, when the cited interview took place. And her statement clearly showed that she was a Socialist. So how did she become one of the most powerful political figures in Illinois? John Daley, who is now one of her flunkies on the County Board, surely would have preferred to have her Power; but she got it. The machinations of Cook County Politics are amazing. And don't forget that her Sugar Tax exempted her primary constituency, those using Link Cards. She is now in her 70's, so it is doubtful that she will go any farther, but you just have to wonder how somebody who was so anti--business could achieve so much power. And remember, the Sugar Tax has the most Impact on small businesses. Baby "G"
A tradition on the southwest side, the Beverly Woods closed after 63 years. Here was a place that hosted first Sixth District then Twenty Second District parties for probably longer than I have been alive. If the owner charged anything, it was not much more than cost. This was a business that welcomed members of the community whether you were black or white. It had one of the most diverse clientels of any business you could find. Although the place was getting a little "tired", owner Tom McGann said they were still booked through the end of the year.
One of the main reasons McGann attributes to the closing was the City's minimum wage laws which are now $11(?) and will eventually end up at $13 an hour. Also, with the County beverage tax he Is having trouble making money with the prices quoted in existing banquet contracts.
19th Ward Ald. Matt O'Shea was contacted and he related that it was sad to see them close and that they had been supportive of so many charitable events. I wish the Alderman would have commented on how the City's actions had contributed to the loss of a business that had been "so supportive of chartible causes and senior events."
Again, a classic example of City/County policy driving business out of the City. Of course, maybe a place like Beverly Woods that employed 12 full time and 40 part time workers don't matter to the Democratic powers that be. No wonder people are fleeing Chicago in record numbers. I guess small businesses like Tom McGann's don't fit into Rahm's definition of Chicago values.

Socialism and fascism are two sides of the same coin -Statism.
Statism is what we're talking about. And the mentality of some of these lame brain politicians, of whichever party, who believe that government is the end-all-be-all, and that government should run everything in people's lives, and that people exist for the government and not vice-versa, is what amounts to statism.
Statism is at odds with the founding principles of this country and its Constitution. Statism is not American. Statism is a foreign import from Europe and other countries. Statism (and the people who wish to see government reign supreme over the people here in America) is what needs to be defeated if the USA is to get on track and truly prosper again.

Better if you sit on your ass and collect a check from the government. This insures that democrats will continue to get elected. They believe that working people should pay for the lazy and stupid welfare society. Yes stupid most have not completed high school and have no job skills. Even flipping burgers is a real problem. If you have ever frequented a fast food establishment staffed with minorities you known what I am talking about. Slow rude service, employees on their phone or just talking to each other and ignoring the customers. For that type of service the are demanding a living wage. Try earning a living wage.

Disclaimer: It killed me to do it, but yesterday I bought kitty litter at my local Jewel.
However, I'm headed downstate tomorrow to pick up a table and I'll be doing ALL my grocery shopping on the way back to Chicago, in DuPage County. A loss of $300 in sales at my local store, a loss of Cook County taxes to DuPage and a win for me in lower prices, cleaner stores and more pleasant clerks.

Last year, the Atlantic had a "sky is falling" article about declining NFL ratings. The article suggested people were tuning out due to the election, twitter, cord-cutting cable subscribers and retiring star players. Nice theory . . . NOT!
