It's Working?

We have our doubts - and we have many years of experience to back them up:
  • In a novel experiment, the Chicago Police Department has rounded up dozens of drug addicts over the past two years and has given them an ultimatum: treatment or jail.

Most opted for treatment and only a handful were rearrested.

Now, the department plans to expand that pilot program.

Starting next year, patrol officers will identify candidates for diversion and bring them to a West Side police station where treatment experts will evaluate them for entry into the appropriate therapy. The goal is to expand the program citywide.

Until now, the department’s narcotics division has coordinated the experiment. The patrol bureau will take over the expanded program.
Patrol is taking over? Well this is going to be a hiding spot for another two or three or four dozen wives, girlfriends, boy-toys and connected persons, thereby shorting the Districts of manpower.

And although homicides are down, we'll just point out that junkies weren't usually the ones doing the killing or getting killed. Property crime (the statistic where junkies really shine) is up across the board in all categories, so we have to wonder how many addicts are truly turning their lives around. The Federal Government just declared an "opioid epidemic" and we're pretty sure Chicago is one of the many nexuses of distribution, and usage resulting in overdoses.

We, and anyone else with a functioning brain, knows better than to trust any numbers given out by the city and department. Frank Main, bless his heart, doesn't know that after how many years now?

Recovery centers in the private sector have difficulties with recidivism, not sure how a public sector program would fair any better with the issues mentioned by SCC.

Are Police Officers really trained to make "assessments" of this nature? Once again, planners at the highest level of our City's corrupt government want the Police to bring about Social Change, without training and or the amount of personnel necessary to carry out the task. This might work in a small community, with little else to do. But it is going to take away more officers, from an already depleted work force to do Social Work. Here is a better idea: We have no shortage of diploma mills in Chicago, turning out students with worthless diplomas in Social Sciences. Assign one car per District, with one of these students, or graduates. Put a vest on him/her, have them sign a waiver, and have them handle the evaluation and processing of the junkie. It would effectively address the problem and establish a positive relationship with the police hating academic institutions, or at least their students. Use some of the young officers, who are into "Change", and Social Justice, rather than the usual Racist Police Service, that makes neighborhoods livable. Baby "G"

(OT) here is a feel-good story great news something nice to wake up to;

Would-be robber shot by man with concealed carry permit

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) - A would-be robber was shot and critically wounded early Tuesday when the victim of the robbery fired shots in the Calumet Heights neighborhood on the South Side.

Shortly after 2 a.m., a 27-year-old man was pulling his vehicle into a back yard lot in the 9100 block of South Blackstone when another male approached and pointed a weapon, according to Chicago Police.

The 27-year-old, who has a concealed carry permit, opened fire, striking the would-be robber in the chest, police said.

The only better part would be the thug taking a “dirt nap” because this would’ve cured him on his disease!

Are the brass at the CPD aware that rehab is only about 30% effective at best, and pretty much zero % effective when someone is forced to go? Nice waste of money, CPD.

So now we’re social workers. Find rocks or blows on someone and we have to offer them treatment or else threaten them with arrest and jail. I thought oh job was ya know law enforcement. Now all of a sudden we’re doing the job of the courts. Let’s wait and see how long it is before people start complainin, “ you offered treatment to more white people then people of color, your all racist.” And if I was a social worker/ probation officer I’d start thinking about job security.

Just like Headquarters says, you are now Public safety officers, not police. Social work will be your new guideline.

Maybe we should initiate this on domestic calls as well. The responding officers can sit down with the couple and they can share their feelings with the officers, voice there concerns with what they believe they’re significant other is doing that they have a problem with. The officers can offer advice and suggest relationship exercises they can do on their own and even suggest they attend a workshop at the local park district to work out their issues. Then no one has to go to jail. There may be a few instances where officers have to return to the couples residence only to find one of the couple got the shit kicked out them is hospitalized or killed over who ate the last piece of chicken. But hey let’s look at the bigger picture “no one went to jail.” Have to break a few eggs to make an omelet!

Where is rahm? Oh that's right teh same old tired bashing President Trump on the show his hollywood brother sponsors:

Mayor Emanuel talks Trump in first visit to Colbert's 'Late Show'

The only hope is that President Trump sends in the DOJ with massive indictments of rahm and his crew! Like the introduction "former congressman former ballet dancer" and rahm is bragging about free college for illegal invaders,as the taxpayers still keep-paying!

Kevin watch this bullshit,he took away police retirees healthcare and brags about free giveaways for illegal criminals! Watch it and rahm lying such a pos!

Like when rahm closed how many mental health centers and the crazies are now wandering everywhere, and it is the fault of the police! That is like you close 58 schools because of massively declining enrollment and then you decide to assemble your benefactors and spend hundreds of millions building brand new schools that insanity err wait that is happening now!

Far too little money is devoted in this country to treatment of addiction and to treatment of mental illness. That is a fact. Anyone who has worked in the field or has had a relative with an addiction of mental illness knows how hard it it to get someone into treatment especially if they do not have insurance. And, another fact of life is that an addict probably has to go through rehab multiple times, become committed to attending on a regular basis a support group and his/her family also must attend a support group before there is any hope for recovery. If you legalize drugs as some progressives want to in order to get the tax money, you take away much of the incentive ( threats) of jail time which forces many addicts into recovery attempts. Addiction is a bitch and every family is at risk

There is no way to force a junkie to choose not to be a junkie anymore.
Sure, there is locking them up on their own choice to detox them so that the sickness factor is eased and some time can pass so they can see that the longer they go the less the sickness gets, but said from that, locking them up against their will won't solve a darn thing beyond a waste of time, energy and precious resources.

Yeah yeah yeah, prevention, proactive policing, blah blah blah. Guess what folks, CENTURIES of history PROVE that the drug war has never worked, does not work and will never work - because of the simple fact that the law of supply and demand can not be repealed. The truth is that junkies WANT to be junkies until they don't want to be junkies anymore.

Help those who seek help, who want help, and place the palm in front of those who cry about helping them the most and have THEM pay for it. Leave the rest of us alone and point the cops at REAL CRIMES.

We will all be better off.

Sounds a bit drastic and disruptive to civil rights BY THE POLICES.
“Rounding up” junkies and making them conform (ha! go to jail - what jail?)
They did such a good job with the basic street dwelling homeless population didn’t they?
Needle exchange still working?
Still sending a monthly gubmint check to the courtesy exchange buy the drugs?

Another program and more bright ideas to waste spend tax money on the deadbeat.
Treating the symptom once again and not the disease.

Can’t jail the armed dealers because it’s a Non-Violent crime - so treat the user with govmint money that isn’t being spent on prisons and of course The Wall.
Perfect Democrat response to an opioid problem...spend-spend-spend.

Stop the flow of drugs with a Wall and put an end to NAFTA semi tractor trailer trucks passing over the borders unchecked.
And all those the intermodal shipping containers from China, that’s another fiasco.

Democrats are not reasonable people, and in Chicago the distribution hub of drug money, it has to be flowing into our Elected's pockets one way or another.

Basically same program new name. For those of you that were not the working police in the 90's and early 2000's.....in Branch 57 narcotics court this was an offer in exchange for jail time and or a conviction. Didn't work then and will not work again. So before you bleeding heart liberal police chime in with that's a bad attitude and look on things. ummmmm I been around awhile and WORKED so save your comments, it will fail. However feel free to boo hoo. We'll revisit this in a year if you care too because I am I told you so person, now fasten your seatbelts so the city and county can find another way to implement a tax on us to pay for it. Oh how about making offenders pay for it through court costs, gee there's an idea.

So does that mean that we can now finally cut the size of unit 189?
If arresting hypes and corner-boys isn’t the goal anymore, we don’t need a 350/400person unit making small pinches.

Go back to The Narcotics of the old old days and cut the unit in half- a few long-term team, a few teams for daily street-work, and send the rest back to the district. A bunch of 5 year wonders chasing a pack isn’t fixing the problem, especially since the ASA is letting arrestee’s choose their own punishment.

And besides, if a copper chased nothing but dope while working tact in 010, 011, 015 etc and went to Narcotics.....
If you send them back to the district, they will still chase dope- it’s all they know- but at least they would be able to help us out with the occasional burglary report of domestic in betweeen 3-bag heroin punches......

Probably, just add a few more chairs in the front offices or are they running out of space. Better yet a unit with a commander 4 Ltd, 15 sgts , 10 support personnel in the front office, unit exempt from bidding
That way they could take care of all the ranks

Oh good another black hole to pour money into with no hope of a return on investment. Here's an idea just let them dye for the bad choice they made. Why is it taxpayers responsibility to pay for their treatment? At beat they might become a marginal member of society, at beat. At worst they will reproduce another generation of welfare dependents. Could possibly be talked into supporting program if mandatory sterilization was requirement. We have wasted trillions of dollars on the "community" to date with no positive results. Time to say enough is enough.

As long as their bad choices are supported they will continue to male bad choices. Another feel good program that the liberals can point at to show they really care. Just another money sucking graft ridden program to reward the connected. Follow the money on this one.

As another poster stated...the cut backs to mental health facilities and services has greatly increased to the dependency on illegal narcotics.
And it's not just cocaine and heroin...it's illegal prescription drugs.
Most people that become addicted do so due to some type of emotional or psychological disorder.
But hey, why provide services to persons or families that actually need the help when you can give out free cell phones and welfare to persons and families that CHOOSE not to help themselves.
This country, hell this world, is fucked

So, let me understand this. Retirees who gave 30 years of service are not having their healthcare subsidized but we are funding rehab for addicts? Sounds about right. The addicts are potential voters for the machine. The sad part is that liberals will applaud this attention to criminal addicts that will yield little results while simultaneously being elated that retired officers are suffering. Some people actually wonder why I am cynical and despise many, especially liberal hipsters, the entitlement leaches and anyone against law and order.
