Wasn't This Covered Before?

Once again, Channel 7 is trolling our archives for something to write about:
  • A dumpster filled with books was discovered behind a Chicago Public School Friday in Chicago's Washington Heights neighborhood.

Community members said the books, found outside Kipling Elementary School in the 9300-block of South Lowe Avenue, were in good condition.

CPS said the books were thrown away because they were outdated or in poor condition, and no longer fit for classroom use.
We mentioned this in a couple of posts five or ten years ago regarding pallets of text books, work books and even unopened boxes of computer systems thrown away. CPS wastes money like it has an endless stream of it coming in every year. An enterprising cub reporter could make quite a story dumpster diving on a daily basis and weighing out the food that gets thrown away every single day uneaten - it'd be enough to feed that homeless colony under downtown for weeks.

With no accountability or oversight, government wastes money. If they don't spend it all by the end of the year, a budget might get cut, and that might lead to layoffs or (god forbid) a tax cut for the already overburdened subjects of Kingdom Chicago.

Did anyone catch the report last week (can't find it now) about the giant school with about 150 students in a building built for nearly 1,000. Closing it is somehow "racist" according to the protesting parents. Must be nice to be so free with taxpayer money.

I work in iT. CPS wastes millions but Karen Lewis does not care. Each year she whines for raises but if you got rid of the fraud and waste the money is there. There are missing and stolen IPAD devices, chromebooks, unused thousand dollar printers. Paper, books, supplies. I used to email politicians to ask for audits and just stopped. It could be worse, in California they spent over a billion dollars on ipads.

Manley H.S. (On Sacramento) is built for over a thousand and about 70 kids show up for school.

Unfortunately the kids who graduate out of CPS are coming into a world of part time jobs and a hell of a lot of violence--- if they stay in Chicago and do not go to college out of state -- then again they can always get hired by CPD and regret it for the rest of their lives

A "book deal" is a different animal for public schools.
Somebody lost a contract or the new company bribed
their way in. Of course, the new textbooks are superior
in every way. No attempt to sell the "old" books to an
impoverished school system in the Deep South. That
would leave a money trail.

Just why would you expect anything different from democrats? This is who they are and what they do. Take your money and throw it away, then demand more. Until you get a clue and start voting different STFU. If you pulled the D lever just look in mirror, that's the real problem looking back at you. What's it going to take?

Sound like a good building to re-purpose as a Chicago Police academy to save millions of dollars Rahm wants to blow

According to a report on 820AM, one third of CPS students are illegal aliens. How much would it help to balance the CPS budget if they were gone?

The real truth is they are throwing out books because their students can't read. Simple as that.

Close under-used and poorly performing schools.

Fire redundant and poorly performing teachers.

Eliminate 75% of administrators.

Consolidate school districts.

Slash property taxes.

Yeah, because the only people on the CPD are CPS graduates. Not to mention the Catholic schools in and around Chicago aren’t overly impressive either, especially for the price.

I just don't think that this is a problem ( wasting money) of city school boards. It is a problem in many city suburbs as they actually believe they have an endless stream of money. The boards can raise taxes, hire people, create jobs, sign contracts , renovate anything they want, buy and buy and buy all without oversight or controls. Just look at your tax bills, look at teachers pensions which are enhanced the final year of their work, look at the pay for administrators. It is all " for the kids".

I am a retired CPD officer of 31 years and was assigned to the ghost school unit. And the school I was assigned to for over 15 years would sell all there books to a book seller/scavenger who would come with a truck and pick them up and then re-sell book .

The dumpster is a gauge of the successes of CPS and it’s byproduct.

Justification: Any printed reference to genders male/female are outdated and obsolete.

It’s a CPS budget, use it or lose it next year.
No discount or refund of unused annual savings.

Even the dumpster supplier gets paid.
Want to bet CPS probably requested 20 dumpsters when only half of 1 will ever be filled.
Again, too much work for an investigative reporter or Inspector General to look into.

Next up, all those CPD iPads from 2012 can’t be updated to iOS11...toss them and get some new ones.

Been going on for years, especially for books. The old “new” addition comes out every year or two, making the old edition obsolete. Gives CPS an excuse to spend all that tax money from property taxes, currently 53% of the property taxes. But why complain, they are putting out a pretty good product. LOL

When paying taxes is something you've never done, demanding others to spend those tax dollars isn't hard at all. And it's easy too, just call everyone and everything "racist", until you get your way. (Until all the taxpayers are gone.)

The Nortwest side schools aren’t throwing away any books because they don’t have any to throw away. As a matter of fact, teachers have to make photocopies of existing books for their students to use during class. I wonder what the publishers would think of these daily violations of copyright law.

CPS is a fucking joke. I’ve got several family members who break their asses trying to teach there. I just found out one of the schools has a no-homework policy. Un-fucking-believable! Rahm increased the length of the school day for what reason?

Some years ago there was a historian that said that in third world countries you can find the works of Karl Marks, Saul Alinsky and other anti-American authors. What you couldn't find was American authors, history, like Thomas Paine. Even in countries where the language was English. Those books could do a lot of good there.

Then here was the times when we would find fires burning in city litter baskets at the end of the school year. They were full of public school text books.
