Amazon Not Coming?

  • Amazon may have just dropped a clue about where it will build its next headquarters.

The retailer registered a lobbyist, Jacob Oster, on December 7 with the Georgia State Ethics Commission, ahead of the start of Georgia's legislative session in January, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

The lobbyist's presence in Georgia is now "the buzz of economic development circles," spurring speculation that Amazon is taking a closer look at the state as the potential site of its next home, the report says.
You can see the post directly above this one for another possible hint. Does anyone know if Amazon registered any lobbyists here in Springfield recently?

They will work for cheap in Georgia and consider
the A/C to be a fringe benefit.

Only a goof would have thought they were coming. They had to try because later everyone would have said they should have tried.

A friend works at UPs. Well, they are about 7th in charge of the entire UPS operation and UPs corporate HQ is in Atlanta GA. My friend has said for the past year the guy that owns Amazon needs his own “ delivery mechanism” and word in the corporate circles of UPS is Amazon will make an attempt to buy out And take ownership of UPS in the year. Amazon is only one of a few companies in the world that could afford the massive purchase of UPS and to set up a giant UPS hub next to your future transportation/delivery operation would make sense.

He said no one at the top of UPS is retiring because they’re all building stock options because when the sale is complete (if it happens) they will make a boat load of Money!

Do you really think the people at Amazon are stupid enough to do business in Illinois, yet alone Chicago? You can give a big shout out to the criminals here that I would assume played a very big part of a decision NOT to consider Chicago. Can't blame 'em.

OT -- Rahm is quoted in NYT article about suburban Republicans swinging Democratic.

“If you look at the patterns of where gains are being made and who is creating the foundation for those gains, it’s the same: An energized Democratic base is linking arms with disaffected suburban voters,” said Mayor Rahm Emanuel of Chicago, who as a member of Congress in 2006 helped Democrats win back the House. “The president’s conduct has basically given voters this permission slip to go against the Republicans.”

Rahm -- where are your gains being made?
Has your conduct given voters a permission slip to go against the Democrats?

"Permission slip" sounds condescending, doesn't it? Would we expect anything different from someone so arrogant?

I found Two Registered Lobbyists for Amazon.com
(The Illinois Secretary of State has a database)

But that means nothing. Chicago never had a chance, the only thing it had going was O'Hare Airport and the Interstates. Plus Amazon said one requirement is a city have a pool of Educated Workers. That eliminates Chicago right there.

Then factor in High Cost of Living. High Crime -- Shootings & Carjackings in every part of the city. A court system that's a nationwide joke. And a city and state that's a financial mess and getting worse. A Corporation would have to be nuts to move a major operations center here.

And Jeff Bezos ain't nuts.

Any multimillion dollar company is not going to move into the city unless they are connected to the mayor. Other than that what company would want to move hearing all the negative. If I was president of one of these companies I would never consider it. I wouldn't even place any corporate headquarters, warehouse or manufacturing facility in Crook County. Look at the suburbs with all the new business parks popping up. They know stay far far away. The machine has caused this mess. Keep voting for these Demoncrats.

Better weather and a bigger, better Airport that doesn’t gouge for runway, facilities and security fees.
Cheers to a Georgia thats in a better financial situation than bottom of the barrel shameless Illinois and fewer corrupt city officials.

Another spendthrift Democrat crisis averted in Chicago.
Let’s shutter that extravagant library and golf course idea while we’re at it.

Why doesn't the liberal Bezo's open up shop in one of Rahm's "endangered" neighborhoods? Why not the west or south sides? Why not employ so many of the "oppressed" in this city?

Re: 12/18/2017 05:49:00 AM My hubby is a retired UPS worker, there is NO chance in hell Amazon would be able to 'buy' UPS. Way too many reasons to list, first being its an employee owned company. Managers are given stock options that cant be sold until they leave the company. Their stocks split ALL the time so yes...they are making sweet returns. Always have and always will. UPS has 2 tiers of stocks, managers is top tier. UPS has invested tons of money in their operations and nobody can re-invent that wheel. I knew from day one that they would choose GA because of Atlanta being UPS's hub. Its a no brainer...

It was always my understanding that they slipped into Springfield under the cover of darkness.

And then the lobbyist would vanish like a fart in the Lake Michigan wind.

>Like the old late night Ron Popeil product commercials<

"BUT WAIT! There's MORE!"

We thought Rahm was going to fix that by giving
illegal aliens IDs and giving the resolute non-
contributing/tax-absorbing, catered-to leeches
"preference points" for THIS and "free" THAT
and a swollen ass-pocket full of "Gibsmedat"
to elevate enough of them to equal stature
with the middle class taxpaying suckers
to keep up appearances as the suckers
die off or get smart and GTFO and take
what's left of their treasure with them?

Wondering if a snarly and nasty veiled
inference to Orwell's "Animal Farm"
neatly dovetails with this...
