Five people get together to protest something they obviously have no idea about:
- A group of Chicago activists want the city to crack down on shady gun dealers.
Members of "United Power for Action and Justice" are demanding the city stop doing business with gun dealers whose weapons end up at crime scenes.
The group is calling on the city to release an approved gun dealer list for officers who need to purchase weapons for their jobs. That way, taxpayers would not be funding gun dealers who skirt the law.
The group is calling on Mayor Rahm Emanuel to change the loophole that allows officers to buy guns from any dealer.
Loophole? The City doesn't purchase our guns. They give us a list of approved weapons and then it's a private transaction between law abiding citizens and businesses. It isn't taxpayer money at any point since recruits/probationary members aren't receiving a uniform allowance - it's all out-of-pocket to the new hire...at least it was when we were hired. Has it changed?

Im pretty sure that recruits get a uniform allowance. The law says that if an employer requires employees to wear garments at work that cant be reasonably worn elsewhere, either the employer furnishes the garment or gives the employee an allowance
That said, the uniform allowance are actually the personal e funds of the employee as each of us has only one pot of money which is then spent on whatever.
Bottom line, Uniform allowance or not its draconian and fascist for government to decide which stores an individual can spend his or her money.

There are no shady gun dealers that skirt the law. They would be put out of business very quickly. They would not skirt the law just so Bubba can get a gun. Too many checks and balances for them to skirt the law. They are just trying to target a place like Chuck's. They just happen to do business just outside the city on the south side and they have been targeted for years. If they conducted shady business practices besides high prices they would have been out of business long ago. Jesse and the boys like to protest at the store from time to time. They cater to a mostly black clientele due to their location. Don't you think it would prove to be racist for that location was targeted due to most of the clientele being black lol?

Yes, it has changed; for the worse. You are correct when you state that recruits don’t get a uniform allowance, but it gets worse. Former President Dean Angelo also agreed that recruits don’t get Duty Availability for the first 42 months of their careers. It’s really all out of pocket money for them.

It has not changed. Recruits do not get uniform allowance per the new contract. Recruits aren’t eligible for uniform Allowance till 4 years on.

Probationary Police Officers DO NOT get a Uniform Allowance until completion of the first 12 months of their probationary period.

Recruits don’t get an allowance. I had to dish out over 5k on everything from law books to corframs. Surprised I wasn’t even issued a law book had to buy one myself. While in suburban law enforcement academy we got issued law books, ivc books, flash drives, laptop per recruit, and issued uniforms and gym attire.
For this reason alone I will now buy guns at chuck's!
I’m paing all the taxes, first on the uniform allowence, then on the pistol. The city could bulk-buy directly from Glock at a great discount and pass the savings on to the officers but chooses not to. F’em.
I worked security for a business a couple of years back. The "Community" arm-twisted the city to force my employer to make its wholesale purchases from their "approved vendor" list or lose a city contract. My boss dumped the city contract rather than pay twice as much for materials.

Recruits do get a uniform allowance check. I just did. Doesn't come close to paying for an equipped gun, much less the actual uniform.
