Parolee Hearing
- I received a letter from Jill THORNTON, CCSAO (773-674-3405) that there will be a PAROLE HEARING for cop killer JOHNNY VEAL on
Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at 9 A.M. at the Criminal Court Bldg., 2650 S. California Ave., 12th Floor.
At the time, like ret. Sgt. Rich Morask and the late Tom Skelly (lead detectives.) and I were assigned to Area 6 Homicide. On July 17, 1970 at about 7:03 PM, In uniform, Area 6 Task Force Sgt. Jim SEVERIN and PO Tony RIZZATO were walking across a baseball diamond just south of the 19-story Cabrini-Green CHA bldg., 1150 N. Sedgwick St. when they were slain by sniper fire. At scene, both officers revolvers were securely holstered.
Johnny VEAL (IDOC# C-01600) and George Clifford KNIGHTS (IDOC# C15356) were subsequently convicted of assassinating both officers in cold blooded MURDERS from a 6th floor bathroom window at 1150 N. Sedgwick St. Both VEAL and KNIGHTS were sentenced to a prison term of 199 years. Also, in an earlier FOP magazine article by the FOP's Jay RYAN, note the CORRECT spelling of both defendant's names.
(Sgt.) John Northen (Ret.)
199 years - seems like that would be around the year 2169 at least. Even at day-for-day credit, it would be 2070 at the earliest, and we still seem to be about 52 years short of that.

I thought parolee hearings were just a part of the processing. It doesn't mean anyone is getting out of the can. Am I wrong?
Johnny VEAL: you sniping assassin
48 years and you think you got a chance?
Can you say MANSON?
You're in for LIFE?
I hear the veal stinks here.
I guess blue lives don't matter much in this city.
I can't imagine why cpd has trouble recruiting.
Now let's all join hands with the mayor, revrunds, aclu, copa, ccsao and probably more than half the population of Chicago and sing FUCK THE POLICE...
Citizen troll reader: I wish there was a web place to go where these hearing dates are published in advance. Is there? I would like to write letters to the PRB in advance imploring the board to keep these kinds of people locked up. I was 17 then and remember this incident like yesterday. NO parole ever for these cretins, especially "C" inmates like these two and the asshole known as Bruce Sharp.
Leave him in. He likes it there.
The Liberal folks want to change that.
I can agree with patrolling murderers if the victims are brought back to life.
I remember that nite summer 1970, the all calls on the radios, GOD BLESS THE CHICAGO FINEST IN HEAVEN, GUARDING THE HEAVENS WITH ST. MICHAEl THE ARCHANGEL PRAYERS SAID AMEN. Signed CADET/ PATROLMAN RETIRED.

Sorry to say but the law indicates that anyone (back then) given an 'indeterminate' sentence, (i.e. 150-199 years) although intended as a life sentence by the court,is eligible after 20 years, to have a parole hearing every year!(unless a 2,3,or recently enacted 5 year set was also granted, but that too is a separate hearing issue)
Some families often have to undergo an 'annual' narration of all the grueling details of the events leading up to the murders of their loved ones. Inmates take advantage of this former hole in the sentencing law on a regular basis. There's at least 6 or 8 'cop-killers' still in this category with some families having to continually relive their accounts for 30 years.
It's not just part of the 'processing'(sic) as when people fail to show/testify at these hearings and/or the Illinois Parole Board sees fit for a host of excuses, the inmate is RELEASED despite the 150-199 year life sentence.
One inmate for example, Ronnie 'Mad Dog' Carrasquillo was sentenced to between 200 and 600 years in prison for killing Chicago Police Officer Terrence Loftus in 1976. "Mad Dog" is still the leader of the Logan Square-based Imperial Gangsters according to testimony that has shown that he still running the gang from prison where he is considered a hero for killing a police officer.
His main proponent for his early release is none other than Rep. 'Lil' Luis Gutierrez, who is using his political influence (and other means) to have 'mad dog' released. At one point during a former parole hearing he was only two votes short of release.
So, in summary we ask your support for our police families who have to undergo this heartbreaking annual experience. Keep them in your thoughts and prayers and support all our memorial events on their behalf.
We are all part of that family.
With the current anti-police sentiment, unless someone speaks up at that hearing he may get out.
To 12:38am. Don't believe for one second that "half the population of Chicago" hate you. Don't even entertain the thought, cause it ain't true! That line of thinking will come back to bite you in the ass. Stay strong and proud.
State prisons should have an on-site cemetery so that scum like this never get out, even after death.
I will never understand the ridiculous sentences that are handed out. One hundred and ninety nine years? Seriously? There should be a simple sentence that says "life" which would mean you are locked up until you die, no parole, no good time, nothing. Our criminal justice system is broken. Police assassins should have been taken out back and hung in the public square. What good to society is being done by housing and feeding these two cowards? NOTHING!
I'm sure that somewhere, some place there is an Obama appointed judge that is ready to turn both these murders loose on the city.
(Long as they promise to stay out of his neighborhood).

Psst. hey retired guys who stayed in Chicago A CCL is cheaper than HR218. And the Illinois state Supreme court struck down Chicago's restrictions. HR218 in Chicago-$100 a year. CCL in
Illinois-$100 for "five" years. Do the math.
They are equal as long as you stay in Illinois. Only the price difference.
How the hell does anyone get a parole hearing after murdering someone? The courts are a fucking joke here. They throw a sgt in jail for slapping a savage who was probably long overdue for some corrective behavior, but then they want to give consideration to releasing these animals who hunted and killed 2 officers. Unfucking real
So what can we do to help? Do we have to go to the hearing or can we write a letter or email?
Perfect argument for the death penalty.
Hey, they fired a Sgt in 016 for punching a drunk Polska who threw a beer in his face at “The taste of Poland” a few years back. On duty, mind you.
I know some of you watched the Super Bowl. Verizon had commercials praising first responders. Did I miss something? No cops were shown?

You get what you pay for. HR218 gets you carry privileges in all 50 States and US Territories where Illinois CCL doesn't. Ill CAL is only recognized in a few states. Also at least in I'll, the CCL must follow all the prohibited places but the HR218 can pretty much ignore them except for maybe major sporting events...
I would rather have an IROCC CARD,I can afford to pay the extra money for the freedom to carry anywhere and not worry about where I can travel armed.

Do you think this is new news? Retirees know both options and decide on which one suits their needs. Many leave the state frequently, other leave town for the winter so IROCC is a better choice. But thanks for the info. We may be retired, but not senile

Super bad advice. If you qualify for HR218(Federal Law), you would be crazy to get a CCL(state Law) and diminish your rights.

Actually there is a prison cemetery along the south fence line of Stateville property. Walked through it one time, interesting reading. They did used to die in prison but not many graves since about 1960. Must be that is when they were released rather than in jail until they die.

Who is this idiot? Hey stupid, HR218 is a Federal Law and Illinois CCL is a state law, which is constantly being challenged by the Democrat's. On the HR218, I can carry in every State. Stop posting goofy shit.
Hey SCC, can you put a notice in your sidebar listings about election dates. We're way past slamming on the brakes with the current crop of libs that fake outrage at Englewood shootings but cut loose everyone that gets apprehended. Elections are coming up, reminders of panderers seeking your approval could help stem the tide of apologists currently in office. Its way past distracting to see the way the city shakes down the taxpayers only to turn around and buy off disgruntled accusers and divert funds into areas with no skin in the game. It all gets to be a little much.
So why does HR218 cost a hundred bucks a year? Sounds like a tax to me.
Since many don't read the fine line about those who just stay in Illinois, a CCL is much better.
Hey Psst, you sound like a whore in the day on Madison street, not good advise on the CCL. HR218 covers me and you in all the states. It's $75.00 for one gun and $100.00 if you choose to qualify with the wheel gun and auto. CCL in Illinois at best is the wrong way to go, you have to put in the hours of instruction, and pay for it. I think we retirees know whats best, so try to look smart with another croup like the new police coming on the job.
IROCC (HR218) is NOT funded by the state; it's funded by the people applying; THAT'S why the 100 bucks for two guns
