- Mayor Rahm Emanuel and fired Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy got the 2019 mayoral campaign off to a roaring start Thursday — with each man attempting to tie the other to President Donald Trump.
“Washington is in a world of hurt. We’re in a place where our government is completely ineffective. And I think [Trump] is an incredibly polarizing figure — just like Rahm Emanuel,” McCarthy told the Chicago Sun-Times.
McCompStat lands the first haymaker though:
- He even has a one-liner ready if Emanuel tries to portray him as a carpet-bagger.
“Somebody show me that 78th neighborhood in Chicago called Wilmette. I haven’t seen it,” McCarthy said of the north suburb where the mayor spent most of his childhood.
So two outsiders fighting over the rotting corpse of a once great midwestern city. Should be a great time. And there are plenty of character flaws, missteps and behaviors bordering on misconduct in both camps. Quite frankly, we're hoping for a "scorched-earth" campaign.

In defense of Mccarthy, he has to say he is against Trump or he has zero chance of winning. Of course he's playing politics but he has to with Chicago's demographics.
1. The working taxpayer works, earns, provides all costs of existence from their earnings, pays taxes and, occasionally, votes.
2. The not working, not earning, not paying taxes, still, somehow, having shelter, food, clothing, and that oh so vital flat screen, reliably votes, either actually in the flesh or by several, well known other means.
Were the former, #1, to fucking vote much more often then occasionally, it is just barely possible that the latter, #2, shenanigans included, could lack just enough in quantity of votes actually cast, to match their woeful lacking in quality, for the beginning of MAGA to appear on the horizon.

I realize that members of CPD may have legitimate beefs with McCarthy but I have to believe that McCarthy would be preferable to Rahm at the end of the day. McCarthy doesn’t set the number of police. The mayor and aldermen set and approve the budget and number of police officers. No superintendent controls that. They do with what’s in the budget. Only reason we are getting more police is because of the McDonal shooting.
Federal government is telling the CPD what to do or they will force a consent decree. In their findings they stated CPD needs more supervion. That’s why they are making more sgt and lots, not because the superintendent wants the promotions

Nice seemingly reasonable suggestion.....only thing is.....it's exactly the suggestion that shill candidates are sprinkled onto the ballot for.....to scatter votes amongst the many, with the incumbents knowing that their minions' votes will be targeted precisely for them and only them. So old a tactic that, to some, it's new.
No Incumbent wants a 2 cadidate contest. Not one. Ever.
No Incumbent wants a strong opponent candidate, even with 3 or more weak candidates.
The number of candidates that make it onto the mayoral ballot will tell you just how worried the Incumbent is, and if that approaches double digits, that Incumbent is shitting, not sitting, as they speak.
The presumption of the Incumbent is that everyone who wants anyone NOT the Incumbent will be succeptible to not knowing, with firm conviction, which not the Incumbent candidate to vote for, since those wanting the Incumbent to NOT win will, quite naturally, want to vote for the challenger candidate who will make that happen, by winning.
Incumbent politics is like a horse race, with the horse having the least lucrative odds, the favorite, being the least attractive to bet on to win. Thus, more horses in the race, for the political Incumbent, means less likely for the Incumbent to lose. Only when a strong contender is in the race do the odds shift a bit towards a less feeble payout on the, now, more than one favorite.
Unlike a horse race, with the betting participants as the voters, in political contests, the Incumbent horse only has to win to be the only winner, voters are thus rendered null & void, until the next time.....
