Firefighters Injured

  • Two Chicago firefighters, including a 9-year-veteran who was badly injured, were taken to hospitals after a mayday alert was called during an extra-alarm fire in the Lawndale neighborhood on Saturday morning.

The blaze, which broke out at 8:46 a.m. at 1921 S. St. Louis Ave., escalated quickly, bringing several more personnel and equipment to the scene, said Chicago Fire Dept. spokesman Larry Merritt.

At 9 a.m., the 34-year-old veteran was on the second floor involved in the firefight when suddenly, he suffered a medical emergency, collapsed and began inhaling a lot of smoke, Merritt said. He lapsed into unconsciousness and at 9:02 a.m., a mayday and 2-11 alarm were called because he was briefly unaccounted for, Merritt said.

“He went down’’ Merritt said. “He took in a lot of smoke, but we’re still trying to figure out what happened,’’ said Merritt.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Wishing a speedy recovery. It many eyes, it seemed liked just another fire. Similarly police respond to just another domestic or mental. You just never know what chain of events transpire. Fires like domestics, traffic stops, arrest, etc. are unpredictable. Make time to take the time with loved ones and cherish each moment as if it is your last. Danger is all around first responders so be careful out there. Keep an eye open for each other. Lets all go home each and everyday in one piece. God Bless our first responders and lets not forget the Men and Women of our armed services serving our country in far away places.

Why don’t you become educated before you comment. Had nothing to do with clout. The department fucked up and now suffers the consequences. Although I don’t think he should be on the job, the department has a responsibility to conduct investigations in a timely manner and hopefully this will be a lesson that they can’t just do whatever they want whenever they want to do it. Which is often how things happen in this fucked up department.

Which is........ I am educated about this topic. Im aware of the time frame that passed which renders the Board unable to judge the case. I'm referring to the clout of the individual who was IOD for 9 years, was a part owner in a bar, was recommended for termination, came back to work, his CR# disappeared, and he was Meritoriously Promoted to Sergeant. In fact his clout was so heavy he was still meritoriously promoted to Sergeant even though he had been recommended for termination and his CR number disappeared. Do you think those circumstances could have happened to your average PO on this job? I highly doubt it. So yes this is the educatation for you about how Clout runs this department asshat.

Lol. Yeah, clout had nothing to do with the investigation dragging decades.....they were just really trying to get their ducks in order to stick it to him....lol. Right.

The letter sent by the FF union asks to support the Democratic Party and oust Trump and Rauner and the republican allies for “ the attack on middle class families” and want to support funding for planned parenthood and womens healthcare . Also states the tax cut is only for the ultra wealthy and hurts the middle class . A lot of BS. Too much to list here. Many firemen are pissed over it . If anyone can upload it , it’s a great example of who their union president owes his tenure to !

1 a : a usually brief intense exchange of fire between opposing military units
b : a hostile confrontation that involves gunfire
