Judges
Someone has been asking about SCC recommended judges to vote for in the upcoming primary election. Here you go:
- None. There is not a single judge in Cook County worthy of a "YES" vote.
There may be individual judges who have done right by the police, but they are so few and far between, it is far better to burn down the entire system than to attempt to single out a few judges.
If the Feds wanted to, they could roll up at least as many judges as in Gambat and Greylord combined with minimal effort tomorrow. As far as we know, they aren't about to, so the voting booth is the only resort so far.
However, you have to consciously vote "NO" for the judges to make a difference. A judge has to get something like 50-or-60% of the votes cast in an individual race to retain their spot, so every "NO" vote means they have to get two or more votes to negate the "NO's." Not voting actually assists the judge by lowering the percentage that needs to be overcome.
In the history of Cook County, only one or two judges have ever been dumped this way, so it's about time to dump a few more.

Come on SCC it’s Chicago
And Chicago’s way
What about All those judges that toss
Out all the cases that turn into the defendants
Suing officers.
Judges who tell the officers in court
I don’t believe you.
What about all those search warrant cops ....
I’m sure they have a list off good judges.
I generally agree with you on the straight "NO" strategy on judge retention. But didn't you laud Judge Peggy Chiampas for her finding of Probable Cause on the felons for UUW that CCASA stated was officially policy not to prosecute?
Perhaps she needs a little consideration.
Vote for Michael Hayes for judge. He’s one of us!
SCC, great advice-I’ve done this in the past and will continue to do so in the future.
Hoping others do the same...
Retired, 30+
I think all judges, federal and local should receive one 10 year term and be done. Go back to a law fire or whatever you want to do. The judiciary has become tooo powerful in this country. We are not being run by elected officials, we are being run by judges. Too many judges are trying to social engineer and create law instead of following the law. It is time for congress and the legislature to rein in the power of judges. If you want to talk about a code of silence, just look at the judges and lawyers.
VOTE NO!
NO on every judge!
Vote NO because the judges refuse to clean up and discipline their fellow judges.
The criminal corruption and incompetence continues because none of the judges are willing to force changes.
Vote NO until they start cleaning up their own.
Nice tip, SCC. If only we could dump the other cretins that way.
Yes or No on retention is in the General Election in March.
The primary is to decide between candidates to fulfill vacancies of retiring judges. For what it’s worth, the FOP does have a list of CPD, CPD-related, and CPD-friendly candidates for judges and other offices.
That O'Hara guy requiring 9.5 and fat eddie to testify... he's getting my vote
Judge Peggy Chiampas is an absolute retention.
That ugly fella Tony Prenkwillie and his boy toy Tommie,( I am a sheriff who has never put handcuffs on a single person) Dart, would love to see Judge Peggy Chiampas gone. She needs to stay.
As stated above, this is not the election which features the retention ballot. The retention ballot provides an opportunity to retain or reject incumbent judges. That ballot is available in the November general election. The upcoming election is the primary in which new judicial candidates seeking office will be nominated.
There are a handful of sitting judges (Associate Judges seeking full judgeships and judges sitting by temporary appointment by the Illinois Supreme Court) on the March primary election ballot, but the majority are newbies -- lawyers seeking to become judges.
The primary on March 20 is to vote for individuals who are filing the vacancies of retired individuals. November will be the time to vote against (or for) one -third of the judiciary who will be up for retention. Judges are theoretically elected for six year terms. Hence every two years we vote yes or no on a third of them. Not sure if Peggy is up in a November - plenty of time to make that decision. Many of the appointments or “ Annointed” by the Supreme Court or the Democratic Party - you would not want to appear in front of as a police officer or a citizen.
Read CW Chicago vote no on all retention only way to fix the problem and walk in the polls and vote Republican
Judge Peggy should be the Chief Judge of Cook County.
I like Peggy. She likes us.
SCC, just a reminder that Debra Shore is up for re-election to Commissioner, Metropolitan Water Reclamation District. She was the main opposition to CPD building an outdoor range years ago. She is a must vote out.
Why must judges, especially in Cook County, have a political party sponsorship to be on the ballot? I though judges were suppose to be impartial not having a political affiliation or preference to a political ideology.
Voted yesterday. Took a Republican ballot. No Judges. Take a Democratic one just for the primary. Just my 2 cents.
This is a Primary. No judicial retention on the ballot.
.................That O'Hara guy requiring 9.5 and fat eddie to testify... he's getting my vote
Don't be surprised if this judge suddenly has a "family emergency" and drops out at the last moment!
Judges work for the people. How is that working out for public safety with releasing violent felons on signature bonds, giving second-third-fourth chances to already charged on bond felons, contradicting state law making up their own rules only applicable in their Cook County courtroom and adopting universally held progressive social justice protocols?
I will be voting "NO" to retention of judges with the exception of a few. The democrat party will keep violent crime alive with their selection of their hand picked co-conspirators enablers in black robes. Similarly, party loyalty ensures that everyday in your face business as usual political party in charge corruption is guaranteed immunity from criminal prosecution will continue in perpetuity.
Aww come on! Anybody else think Panaresse deserves retention???
Judge Peggy Chiampas deserves our vote. She is a former ASA, good to the police, and, most importantly, fair and thorough. She's no-nonsense. She will NOT just sign any warrant, just for the sake of signing it. She thoroughly reads every complaint and questions the officer and/or John Doe accordingly. Some coppers don't like the fact that she does this, but she is actually helping us by doing so. That is her job, to make sure the law is adhered to and that we don't step on our d*%ks. She is also one of the few judges who has been in the papers for actually speaking up, speaking her mind, and being tougher on repeat and/or violent offenders than other judges. She does her job, regardless of who does or does not like it or her.
Please give us the handful of judges names that SHOULD be retained. I seem to recall there was something like this before....
The Yes/No vote is on the retention ballot in November, not this month. Not all judges are up for retention in any election. Full circuit judges are elected to six year terms. This year, retention voters will look at judges first elected in 2012, 2006, 2000, 1994, and so on. But that's November.
In this election we are nominating persons to fill vacancies created by retirement or deaths. Many persons running are already serving as judges because they were appointed by the Illinois Supreme Court to fill those vacancies. Some of those appointees got slated; others did not.
Only Democrats are running for judge countywide and in most of the Subcircuits. So the persons winning their primary races this month will be sworn in as judges on the first Monday in December (unless they do something really, really stupid between now and then... it has happened). Chicago voters taking a Republican ballot will have no say whatsoever in who is elected judge this year.
SCC readers looking for more information about Cook County judicial candidates in this month's primary can start at this post on For What It's Worth.
P.S. - Not all judges are elected by the people. There are also associate judges, elected by the full circuit judges for four-year terms. A new class of associate judges will be selected shortly after the primary. There's no public retention vote on associate judges.
I have voted no for every judge my entire voting life. Theory has always been for me, that a no vote doesn't hurt a judge who deserves retention but will hurt a judge who has been declared unfit for the job.
I voted early (and often) and as you know you have to choose R or D in the primary and show your ID. I chose D to vote out Berrios. Many candidates had no primary challengers, not unexpected right. I simply didn't vote for anyone without a challenger and voted no where I could against incumbents.

A few years back the courts around here got a wake up call when most politicians and judges either lost or just squeaked through an election. The judges were "concerned" that so many citizens did not understand. Vote no and get their attention.
Judge Peggy Chiampas is an absolute retention.

I concur 100%.
Vote Colleen Reardon Daly. Running for open spot. Former ASA. Police family.
"it is far better to burn down the entire system than to attempt to single out a few judges."
I respond:
It's not practical to burn down the entire Cook County judicial and education, media system.
But things can be done.
We can and must "out" the worst pro criminal judges, prosecutors, media etc.
This is called:
"Doxing"
Leftists, Antifa, BlackLiesMatter, cultural marxists do this effectively all the time.
The effective tactic is to publicize the personal information of an adversary/enemy. I'm naming these top adversaries/enemies who enable the worst carjackers, thugs, even murderers.
Mayor Rahm E
Chief Judge Tim Evans
DA Kim Fox
Sherif Tom Dart
(could mix of racial, ethnic, religious enemies)
We need to publish where these traitors live, work, hang out and let their neighbors, club members know that there are bad people enabling the worst Chicago criminals.
I know for a fact that Judge Tim Evans is a member and hangs out at the East Bank Club. Why not start a petition to revoke his membership because Judge Tim Evans just lets the worst Chicago criminals go? Let's let DA Kim Fox's neighbors know what's going down, maybe they can play their music stereos very loud.
We have to get away from the idea that our only two options are to basically do nothing but whine and complain or engage in revolutionary fantasies where we burn the entire system down.
Our side just doesn't do riots and mob violence very well or at all - that's the other side.

Charles Beach is solid. He's a real friend to the police. Fair guy.
Vote yes for Nicholas Ford he has always been there for the Police. Judge Ford is fair and impartial and one of the few Judges left in cook county that will drop the hammer on criminals. Judge Ford has also expressed his disgust over The K. Fox regime and stood up to Eric Sussman.
I second voting Michael Hayes for judge know him well he’s one of our own.
I've dealt with Charlie Beach in some CPD training classes. He is genuinely a nice guy and knowledgeable but I have no knowledge of how he is doing in his short stint as a judge. I think Judge Chevere left the bench after being spanked for telling the defendants in her court room that they had to speak English clearly, without cursing and mumbling, if they spoke English, without the need of a translator and that if she saw your underpants, you were in contempt of court. She might have been a bit preachy, but at least pants were pulled up and the defendants comported themselves in a businesslike manner.
Now that I've said something nice about a judge, I'm sure that there are several of my peers who will relate how stupid I am and how on many occasions they were a bad judge. The few times I have observed these two judges, they were OK, that's all I'm saying.
But, I will take my time on election day and do my part to help deep six some of these judges.
Judges do not run for retention in primary elections, only the general. There is no voting NO in a primary. You could vote against an appointed judge running for a seat, but you’d still be voting for someone for judge (unless you don’t bother to vote for judges at all).
I agree with the NO vote part. I vote yes for a few that I personally know since we were young.
And then I actually take the time and vote NO for everybody else
Peggy Chiampas is an associate judge. The public doesn’t vote for her retention. She was elected by the full
Circuit court judges and they are the ones that vote to keep her.
To vote for the JUDGE, COOK COUNTY JUDICIAL CIRCUIT (only one race on Republican ballot ) so if you take a democratic ballet there are EIGHT races If you don't take a democratic ballot you DO NOT get to vote against Periwinkle or get to vote for State Att General I suggest # 10 SCOTT DRURY best choice
# 123 John Maher Flying Police Flag on his web site and endorsed by Th e CFD
#128 Michael J Omalley FOP pick and ex sheriff Sheehan
#135 Manda Pillsbury NW sider ASA Daughters of the American Revolution Member
Judge Peggy Chiampas is an absolute retention.
Shes not on THIS ballot
Pick one every year and focus on them.
No on Hooks
It takes a few minutes to go down that long list, but well worth the time to mark them all no.
Judge Kenneth Wadas is very pro police.
Joan Margaret O'Brien, Daniel Joseph Lynch and Bridget Jane Hughes are all police or fire family members.
The primary is to decide between candidates to fulfill vacancies of retiring judges. For what it’s worth, the FOP does have a list of CPD, CPD-related, and CPD-friendly candidates for judges and other offices.
3/08/2018 01:10:00 AM
Hate to say this but while I might trust the FOP in general can we trust the lodge to provide an actual legit list? Just go with a general NO vote with no more than a handful of Yes votes that you come up with yourself. No more than a handful, if that, worth voting to retain.
It would be great to see a list of candidates that are police friendly for entire election not just judges. I agree on the "NO".
I think we can all agree on peggy chiampas...YES. Only Yes.
It has been taught generation after generation to vote straight 'no' on judges and yet they approximately never get thrown out.
Anyone who has ever voiced an opinion on voting for judge retention has said they vote straight 'no' IME.
So who's voting yes? Or is the whole thing just so severely rigged that it takes a landslide of no's to do it?
Retired, and living the dream in FL. I always voted NO to all judges, and straight Republican. It made no difference, except to make me feel better, until I could leave the Cesspool of Corruption.
I voted yesterday and didn't see any retention contests on the ballot. The only judicial contests are for candidates who are vying to be elected to a full term on the bench. Of them, there are several very good people who would be better than most judges who are presently on the bench. Brian Sexton is a good example of great candidate. He is a former ASA who was in gangs for a long time and did right by the police and did right when it came to justice. There are several others as well.
What we need is to rid ourselves of Toni Preckwinkle and Kim Foxx and Tom Dart and Tim Evans who have destroyed the justice system in absolute favor of criminals. They are the ones responsible for this mess.
I saw Preckwinkle on Chicago Tonight last night making the bold face lie that most people in the jail are non-violent offenders. What a load of crap! She does not think that a person's criminal history should be considered in determining if the person is a non-violent offender or not. In other words, get picked up with 30 ounces of heroin, she calls them a non-violent offender even if they have multiple gun convictions, an armed robbery and a home invasion in their background. The average voter in Cook County has no clue that this is the game she and Foxx are playing. And Foxx just keeps charging defendants with crimes that sound like non-violent offenses despite the facts of the arrest. Someone steals a car, Foxx charges them with criminal trespass to vehicle rather than Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle. Someone commits an armed robbery, she charges them with some misdemeanor. It's outrageous.
How do you get rid of Chief Judge Evans?
Did anyone watch Chicago Tonight on Wednesday night - Preckwinckle vs Fioretti.
Toni had 2 temper tantrums in 15 minutes. Not a pretty picture.
I am voting Republican just so I can vote for Ives! The scum governor (in name only) keeps putting out lies and twisting the lies from the debate that she won hands down! That means that I cannot vote against any judges because they are all democrats. That just doesn’t seem right.
Voting out the incumbents is the only way. Govt needs a much higher turn over rate.
Is top just Tim Evans up for election?
If so, I suggest a write in campaign:
Rudy Guliani
Chiampas has my vote
This post made me feel more confident in my previous decisions.
I've been voting NO for all judges for years.
Judge Chiampas and Judge Ford should be retained, both very pro police.
I early voted Monday on the Republican ticket. No candidates at all to choose from. My decision made for me.
Retired citizen
What’s wrong with you guys? There are no judges retention vote on the ballots this March. Judges retention votes take place in November
There are no YES or NO votes. You vote in the primary for judges, not judges retention
Chiampas is gold !!!!
I used to get mitimus from PC.. treated us very good and never an issue.
LOL..put your hands up if you think a Crook County judge, convicted in Feb, of a 2003 $1.4 Million dollar mortgage fraud.. will be reelected to her judge post.. even though Cook County Judge Jessica O'Brien will be sentenced in July ,and be removed from the bench
Chiampas, Nick Ford, Kuzas, Cannon
vote for seiser as a judge
The Judges you should truly consider are the few that waited in line for 3 hours to view Cmdr Bauer at his wake, unlike the many Judges who wanted to be escorted to the front so that they could be seen. Sorry to burst your bubble, but some of the Judges some of you mentioned are phonies and do what they do for the publicity. Just like Lieut AH who showed up at the ER when Cmdr Bauer was shot, only to follow new Chief Sanchez around. Digusting...
Judges 99% are all running as Democrats.
You have to ask for a Democrat Ballot.
There are no GOP candidates for Chicago Cook County.
Don’t waste time in Crooked Chicago with a Republican Ballot on THIS March 20th Election.
This is how the Bd of Elections gets to keep Dems in office.
The only way to get rid of PrickWrinkle and others is to Vote for the opponent.
Marginal and least charismatic candidates could be easier to oust in 2022.
It’s one way, the only way to set term limits and attract GOP hopefuls on a ballot.
This March Cook County Election is different from The Mayoral Election (Feb 2019), which no party affiliation is required.

Kuzas??? What are you, a moron or a criminal that he defended. The fact that he was once employed by the CPD does not mean a thing. He turned his back on law enforcement when he became a sleazy defense attorney.
The communist party only has elections to appear fair and just. The communist democrats in power will decide who will be your judge!
J.J.
FYI Judge Chiampis is an Associate Judge. She will not be on the retention ballot. Associate Judges are appointed by full Circuit Court Judges.
Patrick Stanton, Kevin Cunningham, Joan O'Brien.
Recently retired, but have had dealings with all three and they are friends of the police.
Throw all them out............

So, if therre were no candidates in this current republican primary, that means that there were either no republican challengers to the party selected candidates slated for the general election this fall or that there are no republican candidates for any elected office on the ballot for the general election this fall.
Being a citizen and being retired from employment, do you find you have the time to determine which is true?
This March Cook County Election is different from The Mayoral Election (Feb 2019), which no party affiliation is required.

Party affiliation might not be required, but you do have to ask for either a democratic ballot or a republican ballot.

State law dictates she is to be removed from the bench when she is convicted. She still hasn’t been removed and is collecting her salary.
The law about only being removed after sentencing doesn’t apply to judges. Chief judge hasn’t removed her

Supposedly he is not running again. They put a Progressive, what ever that catch phrase means, against him.

One of the best. Pro police
To those supporting Colleen Reaorden Daly, FYI she just (the other day) posted on her Facebook page that she is "honored" to have the endorsement of alderman Arena... you know, the same Arena who recently initiated CR's against CPD officers for speaking out against the slumification of their neighborhood with the 5151 project. Was going to vote for her because a police friend said she's police family, well anyone with ties to that fucker Arena is not a friend to the police. Share this and/or look up her page for yourself. ALOT of Daley signs up in EP, people don't know her ties. Probably going with the straight "no" vote for judges since can't seem to trust any of them.
SCC - please remember that the primary will have at least one to four candidates for each vacancy. The yes/no question is only in the general (November) election. There is one pro police candidate - Colleen Daly, running on the North side city ballot. Her spouse is the police.

This is one of the problems in Chicago. People who draw Republican Ballots in the Primary election. A Republican will end up on the General Election Ballot if there is one running. Wait til then to vote Republican. In the Primary, draw a Democratic Ballot and vote against the dangerous ones, most likely to win. Like a Pritzker or Foxx.
Vote for Lanahan. She’s an ASA. Very pro Police just as her husband Dan Groth is who is the head ASA in Maywood.
They put a Progressive, what ever that catch phrase means
Progressive = Socialist
