NYPD Contract Protest

  • What a crumby way to start the week! About 100 protesting cops chanted outside Mayor de Blasio’s favorite Brooklyn bakery Monday as Hizzoner chowed on a flaky pastry ahead of his usual morning workout.

The angry mob screamed at de Blasio through the windows of Colson Patisserie in Park Slope as he, Chirlane McCray and a City Hall spokesman dined inside. De Blasio enjoyed his pastry so much he poured the crumbs off his plate and ate them out of the palm of his hand.

The protest in Park Slope came after the Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association announced it had opted for arbitration upon reaching an impasse in contract negotiations with the city. When de Blasio ventured across 9th St. to the YMCA gym at around 8:20 a.m., the rowdy cops surrounded him on all sides — hurling insults and blowing whistles.
The FOP is coming up on a year without a Contract - and a suspicious uptick in media hit pieces. The PBPA is closing on two years without a Contract. Maybe some NYPD-type action would bear some amusing Rahm reaction.

When was the last time there was a meeting between the FOP and the City, last year? I say enough of the niceties. The hell with the “we won’t bargain in the media”. Billboards at the exits from the airports . Anything and everything to throw a shot at this little fucking twerp. They don’t bargain in good faith, so we shouldn’t either.

Ha yeah right! This dept is so fractured right now and bosses so scared of their own shadows we might as well as bury our heads in the sand. These union guys instead of challenging our bullshit “no strike” city contract or giving the weasel any opposition, we shake his hand when he visits the districts even when he has repeatedly thrown us under the bus publicly and sold us out to the ACLU. We have officers who get jammed up for using appropriate use of force against an assailant wielding a baseball bat and we STILL shake his hand and bow to our masters. They sure knew how to dismantle us through the merit system I guess. CPS has Sharon Lewis who was a pitbul and didn’t take any shit from the weasel. Our former FOP spent thousands of dollars on golf shoes and just tows the line with whatever garbage city hall comes up with. And we’re still risking our safety and jobs catching bad guys while our home fronts our getting the worst police service.

You know what gets into the press? All the stories about all the payouts the city makes to ghetto lottery claimants. Case in point is in today's paper where the city paid 1.5 million to the family of a 4 Corner hustler that the FBI had on their radar. For Christ sake, the city coughed up about 5 million to McDonald's family before the video was released. And all the while they point the guilty finger at the police. The number of capital improvement projects that land in ghetto neighborhoods while areas paying the freight see decreases in police manpower ought to wake people up, but Tiny has the media looking the other way. The new Police/Fire academy projected for the west side ought to go the way of the Lucas Museum. Parking limitations and inaccessible access via public transportation should have been an eye opener, but not for this pandering midget. This guy is beatable. He thinks he's shoring up support in the black and hispanic communities. And all the while he's pitting these constituents against you, making you the bad guy and him the savior. What a prick.

Once again, the representative from 25th district is right. Thank you, Sir Donkey. Our best advantage lies in waiting until after the Mayoral election. Here’s a prediction: the City offers a measly raise, but strips much disciplinary protections; we say “Here’s a counter offer,” and the City says “You’re unreasonable - off to arbitration.” IF we push now. Wait until after Rahm wins. Then he has much less reason to buy into the fake reform bullshit.

Supposedly, the last contract passed with a majority of votes from this membership, with 3,000 or more members declining to send in a vote at all, even though they were provided with a self addressed no postage necessary envelope to return the ballot in.

Let me say that again. The last contract did not even need to go to arbitration, it passed with a majority of the vote, supposedly.

The City dangled that retro check, and you guys jumped at it. Yes, we are that short sighted and yes we deserve what we get.

We had our own union reps screaming in the districts, “this is the best we can get, don’t let it go to arbitration!”.

As if everyone had a crystal ball that could predict the future and see what the outcome of arbitration would be.

CPD is not NYPD, Chicago is not New York City, and unlike officers on the NYPD, officers on CPD have the dubious distinction of being members of the last major department in the country that still has a Residency requirement.

NYPD is a true brotherhood, as they’ve shown time and again. We are fractured along so many lines, it would ridiculous if it weren’t tragic.

Why they would think this was a good idea Escapes Me. But people do stupid stuff all the time. I guess New York police are not immune from doing stupid s***. The absolute last thing that any public employee wants to do right now is have their contract negotiations come out in light of day. when the taxpayers find out how much the new contract is going to cost them they're going to have a cow. Best not to give them any more advance notice than you have to. Even more so in Chicago where the city is all but bankrupt and there isn't any money for the gold-plated pensions and crazy wages and benefits anymore.

I was on a Presidential security detail at the Conrad Hilton a quite few years back. There was a traffic solo motorcycle man there who got right in the face of ex FOP President John Dineen. Dineen was there as the Intelligence Division liaison to the Secret Service. The traffic guy told him if had did his job as FOP President properly he should have been assigned to either 002 or 011 because he would have fought for the men instead of kissing the bosses asses. Back then we all knew that getting into Intelligence really didn’t require any intelligence. Just think about where Dineen, Donahue, and the Irish guy who got a big job with the County when he retired [I’m old and can’t remember names like I use to] ended up. These three thought more about positioning themselves for jobs if they weren't reelected than they thought of fighting for the rank and file. Back in the 70’s we would have been better off voting for the Teamsters than these self serving mopes. Maybe some Teamster would have taken a dead fish and stuck it up Emanuel’s ass by now. PS: thanks to all of you who contribute to the pension fund so I can afford something other than cat food. The way this Mayor is screwing retirees on insurance coverage is criminal.

Divided we will fall every time. I get officers not wanting to risk being on someone’s radar, but if there were enough of us that unified they couldn’t do shit to us. Unfortunately there’s too much indifference in this department. Too many people that can’t see the forest for the trees. Until we band together and show City Hall we’re tired of being fucked with nothing will change.

3/31/2018 12:55:00 PM

There’s still guys making shady shit ass arrests just to keep getting an early duck now and then. If their willing to sacrifice their freedom and livelihood, they’re not going to stand with the rest of us and actually fight this leftist socialist city hall we have.

The bond issue has a revenue stream available to pay for it though.

Pass off the mayor? Are you really think stupid to think that he has and good feelings towards the CPDC. He's already passed off at the COD so why not give it back to him. Refuse to acknowledge his presence and for goodness sake don't ever shake his hand. Why not even sure money up enough courage to turn your backs to him, nasty that won't happen in the CPD not the same size balls as the NYPD. Forget playing nice in the end it will not matter he's out to screw you any way he can and as often as you let him. So quit batching aactually do something.

The time to start negotiating contracts is about 1 minute after the prior one was signed and in place. Both sides need to start talking about what they want to achieve in the next one - because these processes are glacial.

About 1 yr out from the expiration of the current contract: Tell the City what you want. They need to sit down now and get something signed before expiration.

6 months out - tell them if they don't get their shit together and get something hashed out, you're all walking off the job.

1 week out - take out some ads that let EVERYONE know the cops are walking off the job when the contract expires in a week.

The day of: No contract? Fuck it. Don't go to work.

I give it a day or less - whatever you want will be signed. And you're the reasonable ones because you tried to negotiate 1 minute after the last one was signed, and kept working at it throughout the contract term.

Stop being reactionary to the City's bullshit - let them react for once. Otherwise they're going to continue to treat coppers like shit.

What the FOP and the rank and file of the CPD need for a Union boss is an old retired guy. One that can't be bribed or offered a good spot when he pulls the pin because he already has pulled the pin. Every head of the union since I came on had their eyes on the golden egg when they retired from both the CPD and the FOP. The only exception to that IMHO has been Greg Bella. I don't know Bella but I know who he is. Every other union head that I can think of during my time went on to bigger and better city/county jobs. A old retired guy that wasn't looking for anything except the welfare of the troops is who you need. They can't offer us anything

You are somewhat correct. They paid the Lts. for the 1st of the raises but not the 2nd. Sgts and Capts did not get either. Both are loser cases towards the city. As usual, the city does what they want regardless of contract, but will lose this one.

For the poster asking when he/she will get their retro.....forget that and focus on contract protections, medical coverage issues and pension issues. That is the big picture.

------

This goes back to the 1980's.

One of Hanhardt's detectives was being fired (possibly indicted.. can't remember) and he walked away with thousands of hours.
After this, in the next contract the FOP agreed to officers losing their hours.
HOWEVER, yes it should be changed.
The hours are still the property of the employee.

Why would you respond to that idiot ? The simple answer some time AFTER the contract is ratified. You don’t know about the raises until the contract and this guy is worrying about the retro like you said , worry about the contract
What did he think we were going to get the retro soon, before the contract was signed? Check your direct deposit, might be there next payday

Enough cheating has been documented that there is consideration being given to dumping the whole class. I don't think they will do it because it will cost too much money. My guess is it just goes away because no one will want to deal with it.

30 recruits stripped after 6 months of training? Who is in charge? Will management hold the home room instructor and the sgt responsible? Why did they wait until the last week to handle this problem? This is a failure of management to ignore the problems. I would love to see the paperwork related this is class, if anyone even bothered to document the issues? calloway is safe because Johnson will protect him from his lack of leadership skills. This is embarassing for any major police academy. SMH
