Defensive Gun Use
- A man exchanged gunfire with an armed robber Wednesday evening inside a West Garfield Park neighborhood church, leaving both men wounded.
A 57-year-old man was sitting in a the church at 8:09 p.m. in the 4400 block of West Maypole when a 27-year-old man walked in and announced a robbery, according to Chicago Police.
Maypole Avenue Church of Christ is located at 4400 W. Maypole.
The two men then started shooting at each other, police said. The older man was struck in the left arm and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition. The robber was shot multiple times in the chest and was in critical condition at Stroger Hospital.
The 57-year-old legally owned his gun, police said.
We're betting the 27-year-old has an extensive record, a high SSL score and didn't own his gun legally. But hey, let's ban guns from the law abiding.

Oh, you know what will happen next, the church will post a "Gun Free Zone" sign on it's doors...or Madigan will introduce a statute making churches off limits for CCW.

Certified law breaker here. I carry my CCW pistol everywhere there isn’t a metal detector to stop me, but a place of worship is one of the places where CCWs are supposed to disarm. None of the smarty farty newspapers have pointed THAT out.
I’m still going to carry everywhere that isn’t an airport because I’m my first line of defense against aggression against me.

Most churches close "early," unless there is some sort
of group function. Part of it is security, part of it is due

I don't know if anybody noticed that when they had that big demonstration against guns, all of the celebrities that showed up had armed security.
Yes, don't forget the Cardinal has made all churches " gun free zones", as if bad people really care. When will the liberal stupid class wake up and get smart about this. When will the judges stop giving probation for carrying an illegal handgun on the city streets? Illinois is now concealed carry state and if you are caught on the street with a illegal handgun it should be prison, flat out prison, no probation. But, oh, that would make Preckwinkle mad and Dart upset that too many black and brown men are in jail.

Thought churches were places of sanctuary. How dare they. That said nice shooting, multiple times in chest. Maybe the CPD should hire this guy to train new hires in fine art of combat shooting. At least this guy has had real world experience unlike most of instructors at academy.

In that neighborhood the church is about the only place there might be some money, other then the drug dealers and they got guns.

A police woman working security in Colorado stopped a Church shooting several years back. She killed the offender. And the Cwb blog has mention of a concealed carry guy stopping a 3 against 1 robbery beat down on the 700 block of North Clark a few days back.

You're not a lawbreaker, but you sure as hell are ignorant. The genesis of the case that led to Illinois being ordered to allow CCW was a robbery and beating of two women in a church. When some legislators tried to make churches one of the prohibited areas for CCW, that fact was pointed out to them.
There is no prohibition against carrying in churches in Illinois.

Will not be a front page story. They are afraid of copy cats taking control of the streets. Glad to see the spirit of Paul Kelsey alive and well in Chicago. The media are very concerned about giving this type of story any traction.

Agreed! There were 3 very important referendums on the primary ballot as well. When those new laws get passed we hear the bitching.
I never really resonated with the turn the other cheek sermon either.

Have there been any CCW uses in places marked as off-limits? Because I tend to agree with the guy who carries everywhere there aren't metal detectors. I'm wondering how hard the long arm of the law comes down on CCWers carrying in off-limits locations when REAL bad guys show up with guns, threaten lives, and get ventilated.
My guess? There aren't going to be any prosecutions of CCWers under these circumstances, because this would set the stage for test cases that could call the no guns signs into question. Thoughts?
