Stolen Ambulance

  • A man crashed a Chicago Fire Department ambulance that he stole early Tuesday after being kicked out of a South Side Englewood neighborhood hospital.

The 34-year-old was waiting to be treated for an injury just before 4 a.m. at St. Bernard Hospital at 326 W. 64th St. when he became impatient and disruptive, leading security to throw him out of the hospital, according to Chicago Police.

After being kicked out, he stole an ambulance and crashed it into a light pole a block away from the hospital before officers pulled him over, police said. He was still in the driver’s seat when officers arrested him.
How big of an asshole do you have to be to get thrown out of a hospital? Without being treated.

And the ironic part?
  • He was taken back to St. Bernard Hospital for treatment, police said. Charges are pending.
Except this time, he was chained to a gurney and couldn't leave.

Well that’s one way to get treated. Lol! ONLY in Chicago. When did the “nuts” take over the nut house? Almost 8 years ago right?

My favorite st bernard story is guy comes in for treatment triage tells him we are doing shift change and cant see you yet go have a seat. Fast forward couple hours they call the police for doa. He died waiting for treatment in the waiting room. They refuse and kick out people all the time.

When he goes to jail if he goes to jail can he go to the front of the Pizza line?

LOL first thing they teach you as a medic NEVER LEAVE the ambulance running while inside a hospital one so no one can take it or the meds inside and two the diesel exhaust gets into the hospital and its not a good smell. BUT hey its chicago where medics leave the ambulance running while in the ER. sorry but thats their fault and preventable personally they should be given a day or two off for that......

Ambulance chases are cool. An ambulance chase that started in Gary Indiana ended up on 004 with Lake County's police helicopter landing in the empty field next to it. Got a chubbie out of that one.

I have always felt that those paramedics should shut their ambulances off upon arrival at the hospital and take the keys with them. This is why.

I was sent to a hospital ER to take a Battery report on a summer Friday night. As usual, the place was packed.

A guy with some illness is complaining about the wait. Charge nurse explained to him for the umpteenth time that they see more serious cases first.

He asks me to use my police authority to get him quicker service. Explain to him I have no magic power and that if he wants to seen more quickly he needs a more serious ailment.

He leaves and returned 45 minutes later with a stab wound.

Went to front of the line.

Stolen ambulances!
Destroyed light poles!
Sham arrest!

... and the coup de gras.... returned to the hospital from whence he was ejected for care! And all before Darius was brought into bay two!

You have to see it... don't miss it... it's astounding... unbelievable... and full of twists and turns! Click here to be added to the pre-order announcement list!

CFD medics are told to drop patient off with rig running and secured. At first opportunity move rig from ED. entrance to prevent exhaust from entering hospital. Rigs are left running and locked [except in this case] because of heavy electrical drain due to heart monitors, suction units etc. In cold weather medications need to be kept warm. Exeption would be some hospitals that have charging cords built in to ED dock. That said the medics are probably in more trouble than the thief.

Heavy drain from suctions and electrical drain that is such BS first off EKG is not running off the vehicles BATTERIES aka 3 plus batteries, second the suction LOL its not in use thus not using any power. Please learn a bit before trying to explain electrical in a ambulance. No load means no power being used. Next nothing in a ambulance taxes the electrical system does even phase it. Next Im my time In chicago not one hospital that I ever took a patient to DIDNT have a plug in. Again batteries are not being drained by anything in there when the alternator is providing the constant power.

Ill take a guess medics walk P/T in give their Run report to the ED then once finish do what the majority do BS with the staff for as long as they can and hanging out which is why there is also a shortage of ambulances on the street.

In the end its purely simple the medics where lazy....Always turn your rig off handle the PT then walk out and walk it in if youre going to hang out there is absolutely no excuse they can come up with.
