Didn't some "insignificant" blog site predict this something like six or eight years ago?
- After serving 24 years in prison for the murder of a gang rival, Francisco “Smokey” Sanchez claimed to have found a new purpose in life as a violence interrupter with CeaseFire.
But federal prosecutors say his job with the controversial anti-violence group was just a facade. Instead of trying to stop the unrelenting bloodshed on the city’s streets, Sanchez had actually resumed his old role as a leader of the notorious Gangster Two-Six Nation, prosecutors alleged in a court filing this week.
In fact, a sprawling federal investigation into the gang’s activities captured Sanchez on undercover wiretaps encouraging the very kind of violence he was supposedly working to prevent, according to the 35-page filing.
And this isn't the first time:
- Sanchez is hardly the first CeaseFire employee to be accused of a crime. Since its inception in 2000, the group has been controversial, especially in the eyes of Chicago police officers who don’t trust the CeaseFire workers because many have criminal backgrounds. More than a dozen have faced charges ranging from drug sales to domestic violence.

- Sanchez’s attorney, Scott Lassar, said prosecutors completely misinterpreted what’s on the wiretaps. He said the conversations reflect Sanchez’s necessary efforts to maintain a rapport with the gang in order to save lives.
“Mr. Sanchez is trying to relate to the gang members so that they will come to him to mediate deadly disputes,” Lassar, the former U.S. Attorney in Chicago, wrote in a 17-page filing that asks the judge to sentence Sanchez to time served. “He intentionally talks like a gang member to gain their trust.”
How much taxpayer money was steered to these "interrupters" while they ran gangs? By whom? And why aren't all of them in jail alongside their creations?

In around 2008 we had a disturbance at Senn HS (020) and the school must have called Cease Fire. While outside these "violence interrupters arrived, some middle aged. And with them were two of our twenty year old bangers who were active in 020 and 023. And we verified that they were with Cease Fire. With the way this city is going they will probably be in an upcoming police class.
I'm not really a gang banger thug, I just play one for.....????

Olympian Scott Lassar. I remember when, under his watch, one of his AUSA's was botching a hearing on a high-profile case. Lassar was in the gallery, got up and vaulted over the balustrade to try to finish the motion.
Lassar is the USA who agreed to that joke of a sentence for George Ryan's corrupt inspector general - the fox Ryan had put in charge of his filthy chicken coop. The guy went to Club Fed for a year, had his cancer treated at Mayo at taxpayer expense, and got out tan, fit and rested.

As a copper who helped with this investigation I have to disagree. Not all Federal Law Enforcement are a disgrace. The crew that worked this case are top shelf! Everybody knew this guy was dirty. No surprise there.
This is the same Scott Lassar who would Salivate at the the opportunity or thought of sending a cop to prison, especially a Chicago cop. There was a time, when the police were part of a Team working with Prosecutors. Of course, those days are Long Gone. The thought that a Former Federal Prosecutor would stoop to the level of defending a piece of shit like Sanchez, speaks volumes as to whose side these guys are on. As a Dic, we'd be at a murder and shooting scene, and see 4 or 5 of these Ceasfire mutts standing around. I'd go up to them and ask "Well, what happened here," "What gangs involved," "Who's the shooter(s)?" I'd get, "Huh, I dunno?" I'd ask them if they knew who did it, would you tell me? I'd always get "No." I think about $500 of the $2m given to those mutts went for those orange T-shirts, the rest, well, "I dunno."

If a supposedly reformed gang member gets hired by CeaseFire due to deceit - which did happen - what's to keep Black Lives Matter sympathizers from manipulating peoples' feelings and getting a position in COPA?
Police have enough trouble as it is. We do not need the added burden of individuals with thinly-veiled mistrust or actual malicious intent showing up to judge our split-second decisions weeks or months later, or assuming they know how to do police work adequately when they're had no training.
The consent decree should be buttoned up; well, yes. That doesn't mean a civilian with a grudge should be able to fire our superintendent, or any of us.
The vast majority of my brothers and sisters in blue and I are not criminals nor even misbehaving. This is difficult work, physically and especially emotionally, and most of us by far are doing the best we can.
It's amazing that the media won't address this huge scam and waste of taxpayer dollars, paid to convicted felons to distribute to their gangs- only to proliferate and contribute to Chicago's spiraling out of control crime problem. Thanks Rahm!!

Lassar is a Board Member for Cure Violence. A quick Google search brings up the list......
