We aren't going to quote it, but the link is here. Chicago Magazine spends way too much time attempting to explain the actions of a career criminal who ended up murdering Commander Bauer. The authors attempt to soften it up by interspersing information about Bauer, but then they attempt to draw parallels between Bauer and his killer. Why the fuck would anyone do that?
We don't really give a rat's ass about his difficult upbringing. Plenty of people had it worse (or better) and most of them didn't end up with extensive felony records, prison careers and being a net drain on society for their existences - oxygen thieves to be mildly polite. Pretty much no one is going to miss this piece of shit when he shuffles off into oblivion.

Jake Malooly, who penned the Reader hitpiece on Mount Greenwood last year, interviewed Paul’s wife. He was on Chicago Tonight with the other author, and when asked what Mrs. Bauer thought of drawing a parallel between the two men he said that he didn’t tell her the angle the story was going to take. How dishonest is that? There is a reason the kid got fired from the Reader.

If the point of this article was to "Humanize" both men, then why is 90% of Paul's part of the article discussing him being the police? I'm sure the man has funny stories, great quotes, and distinct events he enjoyed being at outside of the job. They were never discussed. I'm sure there were tales of him having incredible adventures with his daughter and wife. Not a peep. I'm sure there were accolades from neighbors that interacted with him and talked about sports or asked how their day was. Not a whim.
Being a police officer is a JOB. What happens when I open the door to my home and put my gun in my safe is when I am a HUMAN.
Understand this, identity politics can only go so far for civilized society to maintain some sort of order and positive discrimination to determine true victims. Thus if the authors point was that this offender was a "victim" for the past 20 years and the Cmmdr is only a mere victim of circumstance, then I present the following. "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character."

Make no mistake about this, yeah Paul was a HUMAN. This offender is by biological definition a HUMAN. No one here disputes that. I actually read the article a couple of days ago. I thought it was well written. The way it reveals how Paul and his wife got together was cute. On the other hand, reading about Paul's murderer, Shomari Legghette, was depressing and in many ways made me angry, depicting him as a man who had squandered educational opportunities while attending college and playing basketball in Mississippi (eventually flunking out), having two children he could not support (the last one was 'planned,' even though he continued a life of crime to support himself, and sporadically, the daughter). His denials and insistence that he did not partake in a botched armed robbery in the suburbs in which he was apprehended after a lengthy vehicle pursuit were typical denials of a criminal. Legghette's anger over his mother's catastrophic injury (paralyzed as the result of a car crash while going to visit him during one of his stints in prison) and subsequent death as a result of her paralysis was sad to read, but ultimately, Legghette's legacy is one of a life squandered, while Paul's was a life built on solid foundations.i think everyone should read the article. I also think reprints of it should be made available and distributed in every Chicago Public High School. It just might convince someone headed down the same path as Legghette to wake up and take a different road.

A far more effective reading, to your musings of inspiring the choosing of a "different road", would be to require daily reading, and report writing, minimum of, say, 100 words, of all articles posted nightly here.
Perhaps a verbal reading of both the articles and the comments, as the first thing to begin their classes, would imbue the thoughtfulness you imagine is possible within the minds of the thoughtlessly inclined.
Why, even though the lively discussions to ensue thereafter such readings would produce many concussions, contusions and the like, these would be merely lasting reminders, to the always eager to deny, of the essential natures of their fellow denizens of the Glorious Land of Pretenders......

A killer can say whatever he wants but for Chicago Magazine to print this bs is unacceptable. There’s no comparison here. This guy killed Cmdr. Bauer for one reason, he didn’t want the go back to jail where he belongs. He had his chances at having a productive life and threw it away. He was in that car for a long ride before the robbery. He could have gotten out at any stop light. He could have got out and ran as the robbery went down he could have ran instead of getting back into the car after the robbery. Railroaded? I think not. I actually found the article interesting.
Highlights the differences between a man who made the right choices in life and a walking turd who made the wrong choices and took an innocent life.

The one who used Bauer’s horrid death the most for political gain is Rahm. And so many so called cops are still against any other candidate. A vote for Rahm is a vote for the killing and destruction of police.
Disgraceful article! Chicago magazine shoud be ashamed, but they're probably too dumb to know it. Some of us appreciate the police, honest!

Research North Lawndale and the results read..North Lawndale is notorious for its youth being in trouble with the law. This is not a criticism, however, just because criminals teach their kids to rob people, carjack females and snatch their purses all of North Lawndale's youth should not be in trouble or suspected of trouble by law enforcement. And it is true, hoodlums do try to force "honor roll" students to teach them or help them rob and commit other criminal activity.

My ten year old wants to be a police officer in Chicago after the death of Commander Bauer.
My CPD friends that provide security at her school are trying to talk to her about NOT doing becoming an officer.

He wrote the racially inflammatory Reader hit piece on the corrupt Pritzker. A true piece of trash reporting. That article set the stage for the detestable Mark Konkol 's termination from the Reader.No wonder DNAinfo booted his ass out the door.
And Malooly of course wrote that racially vilifying hitpiece on Mt. Greenwood.
I happen to work in the Mt. Greenwood area. Strangely enough, I've seen the blacks and whites get along fine over there.
It is these shithead writers, along with the self righteous, fake, lying liberal filth like Curtis Black and the Chicago Reporter, just about anyone from NPR/WBEZ, and Sam Stecko, fired Sun Times reporter now a journalist for some under read liberal rag called The South Side Weekly, that are fomenting racial disharmony and anti police sentiment.
These rodents are on the fringes of Chicago's mainstream " media" that are praying for a VanDyke acquittal so they can stoke the fires of anarchy, hate and chaos in hopes of permanently destroying Chicago, police-community, and racial relations.
Start boycotting ALL of the local media, the fringe media, and the companies and sponsors that support them.
