- Around 7:20 on Thursday evening, Chicago Police Deputy Chief Kevin Ryan stood at the scene of a shooting and attempted carjacking in the 1400 block of North Inner Lake Shore Drive. He spoke to gathered TV reporters:
“I’ve been working downtown since 2006. I take this very personally,” he said. “It is safe down here. If you come down here to do this, you’re gonna get caught.”
Less than 20 minutes later and one block away, an Amazon delivery driver was carjacked at gunpoint. The offender remains at large.

He is overly concerned with what you do so he can see how it can possibly make him look good, or if he can ride your coat tails and take credit for you doing it. Secondly, the reality of these punks robbing and carjacking all over the City is partly your fault and the department policies you and the rest have been supporting. Saying something like, if they commit a robbery (carjack) down town, their going to be punished more so. What about the other parts of the city, are these neighborhoods going to be less safe, because you are taking this personnel. Kevin you're so clueless its funny, just look at what occurred during the attempted carjacking of the retired police officer, he kills one and the other two are cut lose. These three are suspected of doing robberies in the area of Midway Airport. So the two that were not charged where not even investigated for other robberies, no one in the D-Unit is connecting the dots and that's not funny, but Kevin, you are a laugh a minute.
Any news on swiping in and out? Why is it that only 019 has to do it but a bunch of other districts don't have to do it?

He thought about keeping his cushy spot with a bloated paycheck by not saying anything that would even remotely injure 9.5's attempt to be re-elected. He was attempting to bullshit you while directly kissing 9.5's ass. To foster the illusion of safety, 9.5 and his legion will allow, even encourage, you to innocently amble into the lion's den while crossing their fingers you are not injured or worse, but if you are injured, it is downplayed to be one of those "isolated and uncommon" things. People are important to them in that people visiting downtown are a means to creating the illusion of safety, even if some of those people will become collateral damage. Had he told the truth and advised you to be vigilant when you are downtown, he would have been launched before the 9:00 PM news programs.

Take it easy, it's not like anybody said they wished he was dead. And just because you take a bullet doesn't mean you're a good person or a good cop. In fact, it was a pretty poor decision to ride around in an extremely violent gang conflict area in a blacked out covert van with no enforcement car.

Whoa. First of all the PO's are lucky to be alive. That being said there a quite of few po's who have been shot and have received NOTHING. He's got 3 mins on the job. Maybe learn the job a little before making him a MERIT anything.
And honestly the goof that he was with should've known better. Either way this incident couldve ended the other way. I'm glad he is ok but slow down with the merit this and that stuff. Better cops with alot more time and experience on the job have been shot and ended with a big goose egg.

Take it easy, it's not like anybody said they wished he was dead. And just because you take a bullet doesn't mean you're a good person or a good cop. In fact, it was a pretty poor decision to ride around in an extremely violent gang conflict area in a blacked out covert van with no enforcement car.

Ok, so he got shot in a covert. You are correct. It was customary to give someone who had been shot a good spot. Not arguing that point. I will point out, though, that, if the original poster is right, he went to gang investigations with 3 yrs on. How much time did he have on when he was working in a covert car and got shot? And why was he working that car with so little time on? Because of who his daddy is. He got to where he is now because he was shot, but when he was shot, he shouldn’t have been working in a covert. He shouldnt have been in a covert with three years on the job. He didnt have the experience for it let alone the ability to write and document the event. There was a reason Gang Specialiists spent their last week in detective school learning about affidavidts, warrants, mudds and tolls, COH’s, First Amendment Investigations, along with the use of covert vehicles.
Thats a nice gesture you mentioned about giving officers a bump if they get shot. Unfortunately, it doesnt work that way. Danny Duffy was in a life and death gun battle, lost a kidney for it, and was ignored for a promotion. He made it off the list.
Merit ruined this job. It should have been used only to bump to detective, thats it.

Interesting. I too see the same thing occurring almost daily on I-55, but the incoming unmarked SUV has the emergency lights of an Illinois State Police vehicle. Rides the left shoulder coming into the city almost every morning, around 7ish. I have often wondered just what his daily 'emergency' is.

I once saw about a dozen chase a catalytic converter thief thru about 3 or 4 Districts for about 20 mins while all the Patrol Boss's were screaming on the radio's for the marked cars NOT to join it.
