CFD Patrols?

What idiot came up with this?
  • Hey SCC Huge Fan of your insignificant Blog!

I'm a fireman up North and last night we had a surprise visit from the Commander of [XXX]. The purpose of his visit was to plot out with our Chief the routes the CFD would be "patrolling" in [XXX]. Were hearing from all over the City the CPD Brass is pushing for the use of CFD personnel to have a presence on the street during shift changes and in times when CPD is overloaded (which I suppose is all the time).

I'm not sure what our duties will be because, of course, we have heard nothing about this from our bosses. I guess we'll find out soon. Keep up the Good Work.
So unarmed firefighters, driving rigs that cost many hundreds of dollars per hour to operate, are going to pick up the "slack" during shift change? Wow. Why not garbage trucks? Or how about the street light crews up in their cherry-pickers? Good sight lines up high.

All of these parties are going to be deputized? Given handcuffs? Trained in the Use of Force? Indemnified?

This is a joke, right? Who thought this up, Adam Collins or Rahm and Ana Valencia's compromised husband, along with Becky Carroll's husband, who will be charged with circumventing the city of its own ethics statements? You people better be careful, as should Rahm. You're all in clear violation of laws that he, himself, adopted when he took office in 2011.

And Rahm, since Gugliemi is reading this, you better realize that none of these people will fall on the sword for you, the way that Sorich and the rest did for Daley. The reason? You've never been loyal to anyone but yourself. You told McCarthy that when you were going to become President in 2016, you'd take him with you. You fired him because he was a "distraction," but you were the distraction. You're done in this town.

If they want a "me too" clause in their contract, let them get out of their racks and kitchens and do something for it. Might lose their precious one-on, two-off, oh well. As far as taking action, how about a department issued cellphone to call CPD and make a report. That's basically what we're reduced to anyway.

Maybe they can “patrol” downtown restaurants areas:
he vehicle was described as having a smashed grill and a broken driver’s side window. It was last seen going east on Ohio Street, police said.

Police described the robber as a black man, between the age of 18 and 25, wearing a black hoodie and a blue baseball cap.

https://chicago.suntimes.com/news/quartino-restaurant-robbed-at-gunpoint-in-river-north/

The great chicago fire that wasn't.

Sure doesn't sound like something you would expect to see in a "world class city" , a place visited by over a " million" tourist a week, Will they be on bicycles built for 5 because we wouldn't want to expose them to all that unnecessary diesel fuel vapor.

Maybe it's VRI with a twist,"cars on citywide, hook n ladder truck # 25 responding in civilian dress". Axes weren't designed to win gunfights and fire hoses with bullet holes tend to make the job more difficult.

Must be contract time for CFD or maybe we have a cpd commander that was probably over exposed to lead as a kid and has a suppressed fantasy to see fire trucks in motion.

If there is any substance to this rumor, idea or bonehead thought, it is that the core of it originated from a desperate and uneducated attempt to address a crisis.

The fires are not in the streets, they're in the halls of the 5th floor.

Maybe they should be patrolling around the airport throughout the country waiting for a call from Southwest Airlines this is the third incident concerning Southwest what is going on with our maintenance program? No wonder why they call Southwest the greyhound of the sky;

https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/6281427/southwest-airlines-flight-third-emergency-landing/

When you have an airline where people are treated like they were are being forced into a cattle car grabbing seats where are they can you kind of wonder what the maintenance program is like? No wonder why Southwest Airlines is rapidly discounted fares they keep doing this if I have nobody flying them it will meet the same fate as midway airlines did in the past when they went out of business!

Maybe you are basically reduced to only making a report. CFD still responds to any fire and must do their jobs. There is no slacking off for CFD. CPD has the option of doing nothing. What a complete joke to have a fire truck driving down high risk areas for what? What are their options? Call in a noise disturbance? Drug deal? Will gang members run from CFD? NO! This is all fake high visibility. Squad cars with lights on, CFD trucks with lights on driving down streets. I am sure the residents will feel safe? This is a act of desperation by Rahm.

A typical "tower ladder" (i.e. crane on wheels) costs about $1 mil., and gets roughly 2 miles to the gallon. To have it on patrol is ridiculous. What are the firemen supposed to do if they see a crime in progress? Call it in and then what? Stick around until a beat car arrives? Hold an offender? And if they get a call while waiting for a beat car, then what? I think of the expense (often a waste) and cumbersome maneuvering responding to a simple inhalator call just to wait for an "ambolance". If a dual purpose is what the City wants, they'd get more for their buck by putting snow plows on the front of fire engines than making firemen into unarmed cops.

Video released of suspect in beating near Lake Shore Drive on Gold Coast

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/ct-met-lake-shore-drive-attack-20180514-story.html

For everyone bitching about fire driving around why not? They are working and getting paid the same or more than police, the ambo crews work hard now with so few fires putting these men and women to better use to serve the public would be welcomed! Think about the "bodies on the ground" they car roll up on and give quick care! I work downtown and soon with this being the start they will be on 12 hour shifts 1 on 1 off,in order to save the city money and not sleeping and getting paid which actually makes sense! What prodded this? just look at the big idiot that works at the firehouse and grabbed the female paramedic with behavior like this maybe working instead of relaxing will help them to be more relaxed!

Sounds like a New Deal - WPA Program idea, but not for the putting deadbeats on a payroll.

Seinfeld episode suggested police carry around a broom and dustpan and sweep up during lulls.
Hardly any lulls anymore, even 1621 is the official assist Beat in 016 for Sector 30.
(BTW, what ever happened to OEMC screening frivolous calls for service?)

Here’s the New Deal:
Have Fire wash down Lower Wacker and various other pissbum thug corners around the clock but mainly after 0001 hrs.
That used to curtail the drag racing on Elston and on Clybourn Streets quiet after midnight (until the affluent took over).

Sts & San can go around sweeping up the broken bottles and chip bags, etc, maybe recycle the brass casings since there’s no point in emptying the empty trash cans, again after 0001 hrs.

The City the Works - while the entitled feral play.

Make Rahm Great Again Tour begins with plenty of good optics.

CFD boss starts naming CPD bosses at 35th/Mich, partner writes him a mover and we wish him farewell. We come in for checkoff and my partner is "strongly encouraged" to toss the ticket and just let it go. Partner was fuming. Wish we had cameras back in the day to expose the corruption. When it comes to parkers there no reason for CFD boss to enforce any city ordinances that is what Police Officers are for. What's next, instead of booters we'll have Dept of Finance personnel making arrests for none paid parkers?

Listen guys, just got word from FOP and the Mayor’s Office has requested that police now drive around with a bucket of water in case we drive by a fire. Additionally, the water levels of the buckets will be measured before and after each tour, to make sure none spilled and if it has, the department will be issuing you and your partner a citation for reckless driving.

This is a City Hall lackey brainstorm. Its election time, expect anything. The politicians are touting this as extra eyes and ears on the street. Each Watch Commander on every shift has to come up with a designated route for fire services to walk through the community unless the route requires them to utilize an apparatus. This initiative will be on all watches. Each commander is being told to pick the best route for each firehouse within the district, and at what times they are to be out in the community. Fire will not be taking any enforcement action, just calling crime conditions in on their radio for dispatch to the police.

Maybe the City can piss away more money and force CFD to hand out free smoke alarms and fire extinguishers in the hood. More freebies and handouts. They'll probably have to raid the police and fire pension funds to pay for the added freebies. I wonder if CFD will have to pull positive community interaction event numbrrs to put on the humper they will have to complete while strolling the hood.

So, if the city does this, is it basically admitting it has failed on the 1,000 officer promise? Is it an admission they have lost control of the city? When a fire hero gets shot "patrolling", how big will the payout be? Very stupid idea.

He hasn’t failed yet. There are 600 in the academy as we speak.

Maybe we could sit in the stations and watch TV, work out, eat and on midnights sleep. When a call comes in on your beat you could then be notified and respond. If in winter on midnights and it’s quiet you could sleep all night. Works for me

The bucket idea is a good one. In the community the bucket should be filled with gas. Burn baby burn.

How about patrolling the "gold coast" which is infected with animal savage behavior, and now they release the video gee what took so long? Does that less than 15% clearance rate come to mind?

Video released of suspect in beating near Lake Shore Drive on Gold Coast

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/ct-met-lake-shore-drive-attack-20180514-story.html

Had the call be dispatched when it occurred there was a good chance he could have been located and arrested. With the outfit he was wearing Stevie Wonder could have found him. Hey man, “How did you know it was me?”

I love my firemen brothers and sister but seriously, it’s two different jobs. Don’t they get paid extra if they acquire extra skills.

CFD guys are to smart to get on board with this stupidity. Looks like desperate times are calling for desperate measures. Idea won't get past the CFD union. Talk about a dangerous job getting much more dangerous. Double pension rights? Double salary one as CFD one as CPD. Maybe just maybe the CFD could be talked into it.

Not as many merit hacks in CFD to fall for this idea. this is an idea with no merit whatsoever.

Dude, you have fallen for 9.5's phony talking point about "adding" one-thousand police officers. The words "adding" and "replacing" are not synonyms. 9.5 wants you to be solely focused on the foot-traffic entering the academy. Check the back door. It is labeled "Stand Back. Be Careful. Retirees Usually Run Out This Door In Groups Of 2-3 At A Time." There is so much outgoing traffic the door hardly ever closes.

Mayor's Office: they (CFD) sit around all day, watching TV, or lift weights, not even doing paperwork, while being paid good money. And when they get tired, they sleep in those beds we provide them, so they've lots of free time to do stuff. It's actually not a bad idea. CFD can scout for fires while on patrol, reducing response time, and build their relationship with the community. Brilliant! You get a gold star!

Many moons ago my partner and I curb some CFD boss, the stop went south pretty quick as soon as my partner insisted on seeing his DL and ins.

5/14/2018 03:53:00 PM

Hope you band your partner are long retired or fired. You sound like a pair of assholes.

If there’s one service that screams to be privatized it’s Fire Service. Current CFD bloated top heavy bureaucracy There’s corporations that can come in make it a paid on call service. They can rehire the current force at 15 bucks an hour. Save Billions .

Yep. I sure do want a 15 buck an hour cretin responding to my neighbors fire trap going up in a blaze.......yep, that would be a lovely experience.......why, I might even get to run my water bill into the thousands of dollars that month, if I still have a house to live in.......

Cross train the hose pullers , put all cfd on 12 hour shifts , days of sleeping , running a business , working out making $85,000 a year should be over . Let them patrol , check apt.buildings for working smoke detectors , building violations . Get rid of do nothing building inspectors.
