Closing Underpasses is Racist!
- One year after the murder of a 25-year-old woman triggered the racially-charged closing of the Ohio Street underpass, Ald. Brian Hopkins (2nd) wants to seal off the underpass at Chicago Avenue and Lake Shore Drive.
Hopkins said there was a “noticeable and dramatic decline” in overnight calls to 911 after the Ohio Street underpass was closed and he’s hoping for similar results at Chicago Avenue, which connects to Lake Shore Park.
“At 2, 3, 4 in the morning, an increasing number of people are using that to access Lake Shore Park from the trail, then having illegal parties. Drug use, alcohol, under-age consumption. All of that is happening. And we really need to stop that,” Hopkins said.
Seems logical. If your business is closed for the night, you don't leave the doors unlocked and the windows open, right? After Hopkins had the Ohio Street underpass closed, complaints dropped, and there have been grounds for extensive complaints recently:
- Hopkins noted that Lake Shore Park is not far from the area where 10 people were recently pushed into the lake by a group of young people who did it just for the fun of it. It’s also close to where a young suburban couple was surrounded by a group of thugs, culminating in the man being punched in face, hitting his head on the pavement and suffering a fractured skull.
Aldercreature Beale denounced the previous closure as racist:
- When the Ohio underpass was closed, Beale denounced the move as racist. Last year, the Chicago Park District was ordered to close the Ohio Street underpass between midnight and 5 a.m. from April through October in a controversial move that, once again, exposed the city’s racial divide.
Ald. Brendan Reilly (42nd) rushed the “order” — with an assist from Finance Chairman Edward M. Burke (14th) — in response to the Father’s Day 2017 murder of 25-year-old Raven Lemons near the underpass used to access the beach and the lakefront trail.
Beale called it another example of the “double standard” that has long applied to crimes in white and minority communities. “If we start closing streets every time somebody gets killed, we would have over 600 blocks in the black and brown communities shut down,” Beale said then. “This is over-reaching, over-reacting. We deal with these types of things every single day in our communities. But when it happens downtown, [people say], ‘Let’s shut it down.’”
But it's hard to argue with actual results. And Beale must have realized what an asshole he sounded like demanding the shutdown of 600 blocks of black and brown communities when the killings are being done by......black and brown communities.

Saw this article the other day. All I could do was roll my eyes. Logic is completely missing with these politicians. Park closes at 11:00. LOCK THE GATES!!! Use your fucking head, Beale, you moron.

Bed Wetter Beale has made several points, most of which he's either too retarded to understand, or presumes his audience is too retarded to see.
1. An underground pedestrian Tunnel is not the same as a surface level street.
2. An underground pedestrian Tunnel, leading away from where buildings housing people are, with streets upon which vehicles move, and leading to an area where there are no buildings with people living within, are no streets, with vehicles traveling to and fro, is not the same as the ghetto streets within his ward.
3. The Park District, which has authority over all City Parklands, has, and has had, the authority to definitively close said city parklands, per it's authority. The enforcement of law is not the only means the authority has to do so.
4. Bed Wetter Beale knows the above. Bed Wetter Beale knows that he'd prefer access to outside his ghetto ward victims, by his ghetto ward's predators, not be impeded.
5. Bed Wetter Beale knows that the closing(s) of pedestrian access Tunnel(s) impedes ALL pedestrians, not limited to his ghetto ward's predatory residents.
6. Bed Wetter Beale knows that this impeding will prevent the less thoughtful of victims from placing themselves within the isolated grasp of the more conniving of his ghetto ward's predators.
7. Bed Wetter Beale wets himself once again.
8. Bed Wetter Beale seems to be more concerned with ensuring his ghetto ward's predators have easy access to their isolated mugging grounds than for their victims.
9. Bed Wetter Beale laments the additional wear and tear upon the footwear of his ghetto ward's predators, said underground pedestrian Tunnel closings resulting in these predators having to travel farther from their preferred hunting grounds to stalk their prey.

ALL pedestrians blocked from underground passageway during the witching hours.
Thus, only those determined to be out and within the near north lakefront park areas will be where they are determined to be, doing whatever it is they are determined to be doing.
Multiple access points at street levels provide ample access to the preceeding.
The alderman's race baiting is both transparently bullshit and typically democrat, as are ALL race baiting democrats.
I don't remember him crying racism when the Cottage Grove underpass was closed after Yummy Sandifer met his just reward there.

at Chicago Ave and Lsd by a pack of adult and Juvenile offenders in 2016. Her life mattered. The tunnel brought them all across the drive to the unmanned lakefront.
In the early 90s, myself and other men in my quiet bedroom community, would routinely take Sawzalls to round ball hoops that the Park District would insist on fixing at the local park.
The roundball court had become a magnet for violent Section 8 residents of a nearby neighborhood☹️.
Our actions positively affected the site, resulting in ZERO problems at said site.🙂.

Crying racism is the go-to for liberals. They see racists behind every tree and under every rock. It is a handy excuse when you want to avoid the obvious, personal responsibility. Cook County closes the forest preserves at dusk every night. Is that also racist? However, since I live across the street from a forest preserve, on occasion I will hear gunshot coming from inside. I will call the police, but they will not respond ( suburban cops and Forest Preserve cops). They do not want to go into the woods at night and who would blame them?

Please remember that the woman shot last year which caused the tunnel closure was a black person from the Austin neighborhood. Someone was gunning for her affiliated boyfriend and clipped her instead. I don’t see how closing a gate to a closed park during its closure hours is racist. Is there a particular race which violates the closure of said park?
Actually if all those blocks could somehow be "shut down", it would have a favorable impact on crime. Even more blocks, even less crime.

Hear ye hear ye! I put forth this proclamation enshrining the rights of the ghetto predator to roam freely amungst the unarmed and unpoliced populations and areas of the great City of Chicago. For it has been known that our cultural heritage is one of victimizing the unsuspecting - and then using their values of “fairness” to weave a new narrative. That and “just funnin’”. A new narrative of victim-hood by the aggressors! Do not pay any kind to the data collected regarding crime and homicides. That data is skewed. Also ignore your personal experience, for it also skewed! Our ancestral hunting grounds must remain open and free to the population!
Double standard? So because a lot of blacks kill a lot of blacks in black neighborhoods, whites, business owners, and the general population are supposed to turn a blind eye when the crime starts spilling out into typically safe areas?
Conversely, if they started shutting down streets and tunnels in black neighborhoods to prevent crime, just GUESS what they'd say about that...
I think the response they're looking for is "let the criminals run wild and do nothing about it, because that's the only way to make sure that no ones rights get trampled". In other words, "Black Crime Matters!"
How about just applying the law and convicting all the criminals after they're arrested.
Just a few words from an ex-pat in rural western Montana, it seems like the powers that be have no control of sociopaths running wild in the streets. It is going to get worse especially if the hot weather continues. If that happened here the vigilantes would put a quick stop to it. I left 21 years ago I can't imagine how bad it is now.
