Pendulum Swings Back

  • Milwaukee Police Chief Alfonso Morales said Monday, June 25 law enforcement officials are working together when it comes to pursuit policies. This, as city leaders held a news conference in an effort to provide a unified message about the MPD pursuit policy -- informing people that police will chase reckless drivers.

Until last fall, Milwaukee police were only allowed to chase drivers suspected of committing a violent felony — a directive put in place in 2010 after four bystanders were killed during three separate police chases. Former police Chief Edward Flynn revised the policy after pressure from the Milwaukee Common Council and members of the Milwaukee Fire and Police Commission, who were responding to public outcry over reckless drivers.

Under the new policy, officers are able to chase after reckless drivers and suspected drug dealers -- and Chief Morales said the number of pursuits has increased since Sept. 17, 2017 after the policy change.
Until someone comes up with a vehicle-borne engine disabling device, criminals are going to flee and officers are going to (initially) chase them. Chicago has proven time and again, if there are no consequences for fleeing, then you're going to get more fleeing. There has to be some balance and some penalty.

The city can come up with ways to ticket speeding, parking in your own neighborhood but can not think of ways to stop criminals from fleeing. Stick some fees to fleeing and see what happens.

Suggest a system of integrated drones linked to a control point. No-fly zones (airports, etc.) to be covered by street cameras. Would need enough drones to hand-off coverage drone to drone or street camera if/when car leaves each coverage area.

Again, the appropriate description should not even be referred to as a 'Police CHASE.'

It gives the impression that the Police are the ones initiating and perpetuating the dangerous and illegal event.

Fleeing Felon, Reckless Driver or Maniac Murdering Motorist would better describe the culpability on behalf of the real cause and effect of a subsequent crash or tragedy...
the irresponsible driver of the vehicle recklessly driving off at high speeds from a lawful attempt by police to investigate a crime.

Tell it like it is without those 'fake news' subliminal terms that only confirm what SCC has said of the mainstream media's reference to everything that is wrong in society today... "it's all the po-lice fault."

Stay safe my brother and sister, LEO's.

Vehicle borne engine disabling device...

They exist - they're called directed EMP's but unfortunately take out a bunch of other things around it...

If we had access to the car's computer, the cops could disable the engines remotely - but so could any hacker worth his salt - and you know what a clusterfuck that would be.

Even that OnStar crap can be abused (FBI was turning on microphones remotely w/o the knowledge of the driver... and oops - turned on the microphones of vehicles that shouldn't have been, by accident). Fortunately OnStar is easy to disable - just rip out the module altogether (and if I can do it, so can some criminal).

You want to disable the vehicle? Disable the driver - shoot the J/O. Forget all this bullshit about chases being dangerous, etc. We already know that - but BLAME THE CRIMINAL for causing the chase - had the criminal simply pulled over and treated it as a "day at the office" (of criminal activity), there'd have been a ticket, and arrest - and they'll get back to "work" soon enough.

But the FOP ought to start their own campaign: "Blame the Criminal, not the Cop!" - have some links to the website that show the effects of running in vehicles from cops.

Fuck the law, fuck the policy!
Don't chase anybody for anything less than
murder of a police officer or a shooting a police officer.

Bad guy only stops when he wrecks the car.
He doesn't care if he runs down an innocent person.
He doesn't care about the property damage.

What happens to the bad guy after the chase.
N O T H I N G ! ! !

What happens to the PO after the chase?
Discipline, suspension, fired, law suit, punitive damages, criminal charges, penitentiary.

Why risk it?

A tragic situation to be certain, and but for the Grace of G-d go I...

However, blame the criminal. Guy went through 4 stop signs, they let him go...

Next time around, the shithead went through 22 stop signs - he's a danger to everyone - give chase, and get the fucker to stop.

That the J/O was going 80 MPH in a neighborhood tells you all you need to know about the guy.

At what point do you say "OK, the 'no chasing' thing isn't working... it's making the situation worse'? And just treat them like criminals. The problem is that Libtards assign INTELLIGENCE to CRIMINALS - and they're not smart, they're fucking morons - which is why they're criminals to begin with.

Criminals just do more of what they've been doing when not punished for it. Not pulling them over or giving chase when they take off only sends the message in their warped pea brain that what they're doing is OK.

It's not. To send the message, you have to pull them over, arrest them, prosecute them, and incarcerate the fuckers for long periods of time. If they resist - they need a good tune up to further reinforce the message that they need to REFORM NOW.

Enough with the "ya'll don't understand our culture!", "ya'll too tough on us!", "it's hard bein a minority!" - snap out of the stupid zone, get your shit together, and stop being assholes. You'll go much farther in life if you're not a criminal.

Father ought to sue the shit out of the criminal, his insurance, etc. Forget the "State Patrol" which is just trying to do their job. Had the State Patrol let the J/O run, and he plowed over the kid in while crossing the street, they'd be bitching about that and screaming "woe unto us! Why didn't those damned Police do something to stop this guy!?!!?"

OT. Was just reading the case where Jacques Rivera was awarded 17 million for being falsely imprisoned in a murder case in Chicago.
The important part was the jury ordered one detective, Reynaldo Guevara to personally pay $75,000 in punitive damages. Two other officers were also ordered to pay $75,000 and $25,000, respectively Not a good precedent to set

As in all aspects of this real world, perfection is not allowed.

As in all aspects within the areas infested with democrats, the perfection of imperfection is proceeding at it's predictably steady and relentless pace.

Thus, chase not, least ye be chastised.

Let the citizens resolve these disputes as they choose.

Democrats will tend to take it, not like it, complain about it, want to be rewarded for their complaining and, in general, are best ignored.

All others may choose to impede the fleeful prior to the fleeful fully fleeing. A steady hand and head are wished for.

As for the not dumb as democrat enforcers of law.....the word, as heard, is.... Fetal ....is it not?

We are, after all, amongst the democrat denizens residing within the domain of democrat delusions.

An amusing place to be, if not of democrat demented mentality.

Been in many pursuits over my 32 years, obviously the vast majority in my earlier years.
I too was pissed at the policy of basically, terminate everything. We do NOT lose to these assholes!
Now that I'm looking at retirement and have grandchildren, I'd be pissed if my daughter & grandkids were hurt or killed as the result of a pursuit. Doesn't matter if it's for one pos shooting or killing another pos as most shootings are or for traffic. Innocent lives aren't worth it!!
The upper echelon of this department is clueless and most of them have no idea what it means to be the police, and many haven't sat in a beat car for more than a couple years!
Look out for each other, be smart and go home to your loved ones.
Be safe and God bless....

These idiots don't stop because they have no respect for anyone. They continue doing the same shit until they crash. Then if thhey are able to, they run off on foot. Only when they are caught will they stop. However, briefly it may be.
Bottom line is that without consequences their actions will not only continue, but get progressively more dangerous.

No chase means eventually no one will stop once police flash their lights. Why would they? No consequences. If someone dies in the pursuit blame the person that fled. Not the police. Also charge them with the death.

Or they run on foot, afterall it isn't a crime till you are caught, even if you jump from a car suspected-identified used in felony theft or shooting of any kind; " I didn't know", did you hear that judge and jury and media, he doesn't know what the Police know, he just knows it's time to run.

So, you are a Pouncer.

You yearn to Pounce!!!!

And, being so fervantly obsessed with fulfilling your craving to Pounce, you spout from both sides of your mouth.

First, you must be allowed to Pounce!!!!

Then, admitting that your pouncing results in not much of anything of significance affecting those pounced upon, you insist that you be not merely allowed to Pounce!!!, but enthusiastically encouraged to Pounce!!!!

Pounce away, oh darling fervant Pouncer!!!!!

At least you may have burnt off enough juice to not kick the dog when you finally return to your Pouncer Palace.

It's more the juice.

That brain juice whack that is better reserved for that moment it is needed to survive.

Sure, it can be a bit challenging, coiled spring tight and yearning to be released.

But it's worth developing the inner discipline to keep that coiled viper tight and ready when actually needed.

Even the fictional Paul Kersey figured that out pretty damn quick.

It's a laudable goal and should have always been the goal. Not that all goals are achievable. there are always going to be a few criminals who decide to shoot it out with the cops rather than being taken into custody. That is their choice.

No police chase has ever been about a speeding ticket. No police chase has ever taken place without an OFFENDER deciding to flee from the police. In your world, the police should never chase anyone. That means no one has to pull over for the police, EVER... for ANYTHING. Your justification for this is that the police could cause the death of a little old lady. Imagine the deaths if the police couldn't stop anyone.
