When do they start cancelling days off, due to this Unforseen Emergency (that we have every year)?
I thought Rahm has hired more officers. CPD is a joke. Crime will undoubtedly be going, most seems to be unreported, and policy will destroy CPD and the city.
One job at a time, drive safely, cross the Ts and dot the Is, personals and lunch.

So now we have to use all time off before March each year. Plan accordingly. Plan your wedding and divorce’s during this time. Buy shirts with your name on them so your family will remember who you are in passing at home. Look forward to retirement. At least you’ll be alive a couple months to reconnect. Expect an obituary which will read like that one from those abandoned kids going around on-the internet.

Rumors have been heard that Chief of Detectives Staples has plans to change the Schedule at Area South, after letting the new class of Detectives know not to bid to Area south for the Schedule.
If she thinks the clearance rate is low now, go ahead and change it and see how low that brings down morale. If Chief Staples would take a look at how many Detectives are assigned to each ares , she will notice that Area South has 100 less than Area North, and 140 less than the Area Central.

Let all caps,review,District Secretary Headquarters staff that are day off every weekend change day off group to Monday ,Tuesday all summer and get assigned to weekend details .
Cowards keep their 4-6 hour a day assignments with an hour lunch while the district beat and tactical officers get screwed .

As usual the lowly grunts in Patrol are most effected. The house mice at HQ and the units ususlly don’t ever have a problem getting time off.
As an added bonus they frequently don’t even need to burn a slip to do so.

The 16th Distrct which is 36 square miles has the least assigned Sergeants citywide. Furthermore it has the lowest or second to lowest officers assigned citywide. The service in 16 is severely diminished due to this severe manpower shortage.

What difference does the weather make? Last week end cool in the 60’s and constant rain. 38 shot, 9 killed. So much for the weather theory.

Hey hot shot. Any days off cancelled are time and one half. Maybe you should learn how to properly express yourself when writing. And yes, you are the POLICE and you need to work holidays, weekends etc. You know that from day one. QUIT and get another job if it is too much for you.
With over 20 years on that is the only reason I wont bid in to 016. How do you guys /gals take timeoff. I just dont see it happening...

I think we all knew when we took this job we would have to work holidays and weekends, however, when you are FORCED to work a holiday on your RDO, after working said holiday year after year, after year, is a total crock of shit. Hire more fucking people and stop dictating when we can use our OWN time off! These idiots in upper management only create resentment among the ranks and drive up the medical. An unhappy employee isn’t a productive employee fucktards.

First of all I corrected myself later and said I meant double time and a half. Second of all I understand we have to work Holidays. Now, on to the good part. We do get days off and sometimes they fall on a holiday or around it. Just because the Dept cant handle the manpower needs doesn't mean we get to be screwed over. I've been handling it for over 28 years. This never used to happen years ago. We would suck it up and work 99 and handle all of our jobs so others could have off. Maybe that is too much for you. Now a days it seems like you need 10 tact guys to lock up one kid. We are not short of bodies, we are short of people who are the Police.

Just think about this: If you had planned any outing or getaway around your two RDO's, pending they are not cancelled, you cannot extend your trip for even one day during this time period! Most of us remain in the same DOG all year. How can you ever plan anything months in advance when you receive these restrictions weeks in advance? This department needs a douching followed by an enema as well as the whole damned city and county.

I'll assume that was meant for me. I wasn't saying the city or department was right. I was simply giving a very obvious and simple solution to the problem presented. It wasn't like this when you signed up, but it's been like this for years. Pay attention and adjust your vacations accordingly. Whining on the internet never got me a day off, but maybe you'll have better luck. Maybe you could send your family on vacation without you. You seem to have anger issues. They could probably use a getaway.

I'll be working those dates, most likely with a bunch of down cars and only one or two supervisors on the street. I didn't intend to take any trips during those dates. If I did, I would've ensured that I had those days off by using my personal days, exactly as I advised you. If you didn't see this coming, anger isn't your only issue. I'll help you out for next year. If you plan on taking a vacation in the summer, particularly during the Taste of Chicago, or any holiday weekend, such as July 4, plan your furlough, baby furlough, or personal days around that vacation. They'll be canceling days off and limiting elective time again, just like they've been doing for years. I fully expect to see you whining about this again next year though. Another tip for you: whining won't change it next year either.
