Ambulance Shortage?

  • Minutes count when you are having a heart attack, but it took the Chicago Fire Department more than 40 minutes to get a 56-year-old man to a hospital for help earlier this month. As CBS 2 investigator Pam [NewsTroll] reports, it was mostly because once again there were no ambulances available nearby.

It’s the kind of call that the fire department gets every day.

Caller: “My Dad’s having a heart attack and I need an ambulance right now.”

That call was received at 2:09 p.m. on July 3rd.

    Dispatcher: “Is he currently awake?”
Caller: “Daddy are you awake. Yes he’s awake but he’s laying down on the ground.”
Dispatcher: “…they should be there soon.”

State standards require fire departments to provide advance life support assistance within six minutes. A fire engine arrived nine minutes after it was dispatched with a paramedic on board, but by that time…

“I found him in this chair, he was slumped over to the side and had started vomiting,” said Christine Marnul, the wife of the patient. “He was in and out of consciousness, was mumbling words and just holding his chest, having extreme pain.” Because a fire engine can’t transport a patient to the hospital, the family waited helplessly. “The firemen were saying there was a delay because there were just no ambulances available,” said Marnul.

If I got paid 10 dollars for every police squad I see on the Northside, I would go bankrupt very soon.
I am asking where are everybody? Oh I forgot. On the Southside.
Seriously. This summer I maybe saw 5 so far. And am driving everyday.
Now the ambulance.
The conclusion is: We are left alone.
Time to show up at Alderman's.

Sorry, I need to go all caps on this rant... THERE ARE NO AMBULANCES AVAILABLE BECAUSE THEY ARE CONSTANTLY RESPONDING TO SHOOTINGS. Good honest people receive Third World response times because mother fuckers just cannot help but shoot each other.

Is anyone really surprised? There isn’t enough police either. They should report about people are calling and there are no police available to send. Response times are way up.

Somebody needs to FOIA ALL CFD ambulance calls, and which were life threatening. Only then could we have a clear picture. Sending the fire truck is a cheap trick to avoid confronting reality. The fire truck is not only unable to transport, but the responding firefighters are EMT certified, they are NOT paramedics. If you are sick enough to call an ambulance; you should receive an ambulance. But in Da Hood, many use the CFD ambulances like an Uber, when the situation is not in fact life threatening. Oh, and don't forget, if you are not on welfare, the CFD will actually send you a bill for almost over $900.00 to take you to the hospital! But remember, if you are on welfare, the ride is FREE! To call for help or to help oneself.

And the quandry this poses to those who fear making the wrong call.

The "if only's" or "should have's" will fuck you every time.

No one ever dies before their time. Not one.

Unless the human definition of God is flawed, this must be true.

All regrets are chosen and, thus, are defined by the chooser.

To wait for help or to help yourself.

Aka, to accept your response ability or to impose said ability, by depending on it, upon another.

A uniquely modern civilized dilemma.

Ask some of the fire people about other stupid shit that takes up resources from true people in need. Like people who call every day twice a day to be carried in/out of their abodes. They say it's for medical appointments, etc. Methinks there's abuse afoot. Not many doctors offices open at midnight.

Rahm time to recall a few amblances from the shit side of town— the citizens who are footing the tax bill for them are starting to notice— and by the way, send a few squads while you are at it— there have gotta be a few volunteers in 007 or 004 who are willing to go up north. What are they doing in shitholes when the alleged victims do not want to cooperate which an investigation, might as well send these squads to the area where it just might result in a few votes—cemeteries don’t count guys

I hope the family sues the City and gets a multi million dollar payment. Rahm likes to give away money like that to scumbags that were shot by the police. It's not surprising since we have a shit load of calls due to yuppies feeling sorry for the homeless drunk sleeping in the grass or passed out in the alley. CFD wastes valuable time and resources on these drunks and now an overload of mental transports....gee maybe if the residents really see the type of calls these ambulances are responding to, oh wait my prisoner all of a sudden has chest pains..again lets waste ambulance and hospital time...and why not? its your dime!

Several years back the Washington DC Fire Department was experiencing a shortage of Ambulances/Paramedic Units (and this still may be a problem). During a news conference, the union representative for the firefighters/paramedics literally said a certain segment of the population was using the city's paramedics as a concierge medical service. If they had a cold, cut their finger or stubbed their toe, they dialed 911 instead of going to a hospital emergency room under their own power. Because of this people were dying of serious medical events in DC while paramedics were busy putting a band aid on a cut finger. The union rep pleaded with people to stop doing this. I don't know if it worked or not. Could this be happening in Chicago?

Warning ⚠️
CFD: Don't read the following, it will just piss you off.

20 years ago I said the city could double the number of ambulances and it still would not be enough.
ChiRaq does not need all the trucks, ladders, snorkels, etc.
Almost all CFD calls are for medical attention.
ChiRaq does not have the big fires like in the 60s & 70s.

When a big fire does happen how often is there another big fire somewhere else?

Yes, Mr FF, someday there be a serial terrorist arsonists setting fires all over the city and I'll be sorry.
In the meantime, taxpayers are dying of heart attacks, TA, falls, shootings, stabbings, etc.

There are also "folks" on the southside and westside that like to hurl bricks through ambulance windows thereby putting that ambulance out of service. They should then bear the burden of slower response time, not those of us who pay our taxes and have the utmost respect for CFD and CPD.

State standards do not apply to the State of Chicago absent a court order or twelve.

A paramedic engine company can't transport, yet the State allowed and allows Chicago to operate a supposedly Advanced Life Support-rated Emergency Medical System like it's a rural agency that has issues even getting EMT-Basic certified medics, let alone EMT-Paramedics.

Nobody thought to tell the family to call a private ambulance service once CFD knew there would be a delay?? Is there a CFD policy saying not to do this?

But then the mayor fines millions and millions more dollars and announces today as a matter of fact five more brand of ambulances will be on the streets of Chicago which we definitely need. We definitely don’t need moreFirefighters due to the fact there’s not as many fires anymore we definitely do need more ham which is especially for cases like this or people innocently gone down with the corruption going on in the city what they’re doing to the Chicago police officers it’s no surprise this girl got shot and killed;

From personal experience: where are the ambulances?
Well, people (snowflakes) call 911 when they have a headache, stub a toe, get a nosebleed, have a "sore throat" or a fever. I even know of one where they called because the guy had a sliver in his hand.
This is the kind of world that the Dems and King Obama have created - "its not my fault", "I didn't know", "you should help me", etc etc.
UGH.....

LOL I had a grabber while driving and was able to pull up to a fire Station thinking all is good right? It turns out the bambulance was gone and they had to get one from 1/2 a city away. At least 20 mins, maybe more. Since I lived I never bothered checking.

At least I had a cute firewoman to hold my hand.

If I had to schedule a grabber I'd go to Homan and Madison. Probably a 2 min wait at most tho you'll probably see one driving by before that.
