Retirees Needed

Getting down the the wire here:
  • Retiree Update-It is important that as many of you can, to attend the September 25 2018 hearing before Judge Cohen

    Participants,

We’re as worked up as you all are about Judge Cohen’s ruling, and will make a strong effort in a filing Thursday or Friday, to convince him that he’s wrong in declaring that neither the Funds nor the City is obligated to provide you all with healthcare coverage; only the subsidy.

We’ll send you all a copy of our motion when it’s filed. But it’s really important to show that there are really annuitants out there who are being put in a terrible situation by his rulings. It may be that this is the definitive hearing with him, and that we’ll have to appeal this one as well, but it’s absolutely worth showing up for this one.

    September 25, 2018 at 10:00 a.m., Daley Center, Room 2308.
That's Tuesday. Sorry about the short notice, but we do what we can.

if the audience was receiving food stamps or section 8, or other government cheese... the deadline would be months out.

Waste of time effort and money. Cohen is a friend of 9.5. He's going the 9.5 way. If anything comes out of this we'll give $25-$50 towards our insurance. WOW. The fix is in and not for us.Again everyone beefs about the pension board but they keep voting in the Wig. He's a useless political hack.

Cohen is arrogant.. He’s a judge who likes to yell and scream and belittle attorneys. Has a short fuse and is generally a grumpy guy. It’s written all over his face. He’s so above everyone.

He and his wife were big Obama supporters vocal about it.

He used to be an assistant states attorney. Also claims to have been instrumental in the affordable bail reform.

Good luck, you’re dealing with a real asshole here.

This city is SO frucked up......screw over and bankrupt (literally) solid tax paying citizens who worked for this frucked up city for some 30+ years, but go balls in trying to build some multi-multi-million dollar monument ("library") to a one term senator who never really lived here who happened to become President......who won't release his papers to be put in there, nor any of his pre-Presidency accomplishments, such as his school transcripts (sealed), his college days papers (sealed), etc etc.....

And though I have contributed numerous times to this effort, with a sitting Democratic judge who has let the Rahm team have delay after delay after delay, I have no hope of any kind of true justice for us retirees......it was the onus of the city to take S/S money from ALL workers when it was decided to screw them over with no insurance.....they didn't do it.....they could have made retro-payments to S/S based on work hours....they didn't do it.....THEY FAILED to pay their portions.....for that alone we should be granted relief......and how the state court voted yes to the ISP, but NO on the CPD is nothing short of a political payoff deal......

Go to the hearing.....raise your voices.....maybe some shred of decency and fairness will prevail......

I don't understand how they get away with it. After retiring 5 years ago, I went for a physical the out of pocket cost was $550.00 my monthly premium was 490.00. The premium went up 100 a month each January for 2 years until I cancelled and took different insurance. If I had it to do over again I would have stayed until 55. The whole Democommunist Machine can Eat a big bag of dirty dicks and DIE a slow and painful death, then burn in Hell forever. Remember Hutchie Moore.

Considering the equivalent of our health care after retirement is about 1500 for a family a month this should get a big turnout.

Rely on obamacare subsidies...what a joke.
Not available when you have $40k in annuities and other income/resources and not sure how many are getting under that amount.
Retiring too soon and not saving enough Def Comp.
At any rate, they’re still building a $300 million monument in Jackson Park for the asshole.

When the next administration takes control, all benefits and contribution requirements will diminish.
The young people, you’re next in the Dimmocrat hit list.
The mind was already made up on healthcare (thank you very much).
These rotten mf’ers already think a pension is a greedy benefit you’re not entitled to.

The city cancelled my health care, medicare eligible, and I am now saving almost $400 a month in premiums by using Aetna of Illinois and Humana drug plan for prescriptions. Total per month is about $270 for me and wife compared to almost $700 from city and now FOP plan.

This is why everyone is moving out of Shitcago- this is bullshit, just like the red-light scam. oops- er, red light cams; ...scams was right! Making the City just as bad as that other shithole- Fox River Grove, with their similar scam- designed to screw anyone who drives through their town (aka: Little Moscow) and makes a right turn on red. Shitcago also has their park speed zone traps, along with their "gun free zone" traps- where only the criminals are allowed to carry. Evrything is upside down around here! Thanks to the Rahm-hole!

-------

This is a perfect example why the 2% 55 - 65 is a great clause in the contract. That would be $180,000 in insurance premium over a 10 year period. 2% of annuity is nothing compared to that figure.

The judge is not going to take into account the impact of what the city is doing to any individual. It just is not relevant. What is relevant is whether the city has any obligation to the retirees to provide free or cheap health insurance at all, and if so, at what funding level.

However, you can help yourself a LOT if you do some financial planning upfront. You will probably need to pay someone competent to help you.

For instance, one thing you can do is contribute to Roth IRAs. Roth IRAs are not considered income when you take disbursements from them, so if you can arrange your finances so most of your income comes from Roth IRAs, you will have no taxable income and thus might well qualify for 100% Obamacare subsidies. This is not something you can do the week before you retire though. It has to be a longer term plan.

The guy who does your planning won't work for free. If he does you are probably getting very bad advice. It is probably bad advice if he makes most of his money on commissions from stuff he sells you. It is probably bad advice if it comes from a cop turned "financial planner" too. If you want competent advice it will cost you. There is no way around that.

There are some good books you might want to read before you talk to a planner.

I doubt that with the CPD pension that you can qualify for a 100% subsidy.
