Ghetto Uber Strikes Again
- Five teenagers are in custody after the carjacking of an off-duty police officer in the city's Edgewater Beach neighborhood. Police said the officer, a 47-year-old woman, was approached by a group of offenders after parking her Lexus SUV in the 5800 block of North Winthrop around midnight Thursday.
One of the offenders pointed a gun at the officer and demanded her vehicle, then took the keys out of her hand, got into the SUV and drove away.
Police spotted the vehicle on the Southeast Side and pursued it. The offenders were captured after hitting a dead-end at 55th and South Shore. The suspects include a 16-year-old, a 19-year-old and three 18-year-olds. Police recovered a weapon from inside the stolen Lexus.
Charges are pending.
Outnumbered five-to-one and at gunpoint, the smart move is to lose the car, not your life. Good job capturing everyone later.
Don't hold your breath on extensive charges, though. Carjacking is just a "rite of passage" in the "community" and we'll bet no one 'fessed up to the gun, so Foxxx won't be charging anyone with that.

No, no, this story can't be right. It was a school night so all the 'teens' were home, and at midnight they were all sound asleep in their beds -- and dreaming of their upcoming Test in Honors Calculus. The police obviously arrested the wrong boys.
And the idea that any of them had a gun is preposterous. Being teenagers, they can't buy a handgun until they're 21. Plus, all the boys are non-violence activists and think guns are icky.
As such, the woman is obviously mistaken about the entire event.

2 U of C officers grabbed 2 and rest by 3rd district officers. The point is they all got caught nit so much by who. It was a team effort. Good job to all involved including the helicopter guys and the detectives working on it.

It does matter by who. By putting the carjacking task force people in it only makes a case for their unit as being successful, Gives citizens a false belief that the unit is Reducing carjackings and making arrests, instead of just a made up unit to appease the public. The arrests were made by the boots on the ground
