Special Ed Fucks the Police Again
Even if you follow policy and self-terminate a pursuit you deem too dangerous, you're still going to be blamed (and sued) for doing anything:
- Cowan and Turner were killed and Cabari was thrown from the back seat, authorities said. The boy died at Comer Children's Hospital. Turner's daughter, who was in a child seat behind Cowan, was not injured but was taken to a hospital for observation, according to her grandmother.
“It’s a bitter pill to swallow right now," said James White, Cowan's uncle.
Chicago police officers in a marked vehicle had spotted a 2013 Ford Fusion speeding erratically east on 69th Street around 7 p.m., police said. The officers turned on their lights and sirens and followed, but turned off the emergency lights and stopped following the car before the crash, police said in a statement.
Speeding and driving erratically are traffic violations and CPD pretty much can't chase anything that's only traffic. The officers correctly extinguished the emergency equipment, but guess who didn't stop and killed three people including a three year old kid? Guess who's to blame?
- A day after the collision, relatives tried to make sense of the tragedy and some questioned the police pursuit that led to the crash.
The police stopped. The pursuit ended. Blame lies with one person only. But Special Ed has other ideas:
- A spokesman for police Superintendent Eddie Johnson said that while his department’s Major Accident Investigation Unit continues its probe, police have also asked that the Civilian Office of Police Accountability conduct an “independent external investigation” into the events that led up to the crash.
Mr. Fenner, once again, demonstrating a complete unwillingness to back the officers who by all reports, did everything by the book, orders and law. Great job there.

Anyone who chases anything is foolish and needs to start looking for another profession.
Simple matter to determine whether they chased or not: Look at the GPS log.
End of story.
I wouldn’t even attempt to pull anyone over anymore. Forget traffic stops. You’re asking for trouble. Forget any proactive police work. Just stop doing it. You’re risking EVERYTHING for NOTHING because even if you do make an arrest without incident, the offender will just be let go anyway. I just don’t know what the he’ll it’s going to take for some of you to wake up. You are no longer going to last 20-30 years on this job if you’re proactive. The odds are greatly stacked against you.

When will people realize members of the community are only trying to hit the ghetto lottery. Its a fucking disgrace that a family member is dead and instead of crying a tear, this POS is on TV demanding monetary compensation. The body wasn't even cold!!!!
So, for just doing their job, the officers will be subject to the tender mercies of copa.

What happened to "An investigation is underway and we'll see what happens?" You don't have to add anything, the family will file a lawsuit by Friday or Tuesday. That's what people do! They might wait until the victims are buried but who knows!
About 40+ years ago, I was in my 1st car chase and it lasted all of one block or two, before a Sergeant called it off. I turned west off of Vincennes at 42nd St? and when we pulled up to King Dr., the call came in of an accident at Pershing & King. Being only 3 blocks away and it most likely involved the car that took off like a bat out of hell, we drove there. We were not assigned the call so the accident was not our paper but we still had to do yellow paper. The Sergeant who called it off said we had not followed his orders and had continued the chase. Nope, we followed orders. Unfortunately, the car that took off, didn't have a radio, so he never knew.
My point? Even when you follow orders in a car chase, they will still try to pin it on you.
Don't chase cars or anything else, aside from a skirt when off duty, and just stay safe and fetal.
They want blue cards,anovs,parkers,movers,isr's, etc... No need to go out looking for a part one arrest. Fight with felony review for charges and watch them walk right out of jail the next day with an I bond or ehm. The only thing you can do is play the game. Get coffee, make a couple laps around the beat, chase down some jobs, get dinner, and go home.
OT..Heard WHEEEEZZZZEEEE saying that if "Jamal Green" wins the mayoral election that he was going to keep Eddie Johnson as superintendent,then she took 4 hours on the end of her tour because she came in late....WOW

They almost never have the kids in a car seat. You drive past a car and you have two or three little kids jumping around in the back. Unfortunately it sounds like one of these kids were not properly restrained.

It’s really not worth it to do a traffic stop. If the car takes off and crashes you’re going to get thrown under the bus. Even if you don’t even attempt to pursue it. It’s your fault no matter what.
It almost happened to me. Some years back my partner and I working a covert car spotted a hot car. As we attempted to curb it, it took off. We followed with sirens and wiggys on a busy street. We called it in and I remember the dispatcher asking if a Sgt. was monitoring. No response. She kept asking over and over as we went through yet another busy intersection. I was driving and got on the air and terminated myself giving the a flash and the last cross street. Well, several blocks away a outside unit monitoring our zone saw the guy and picked up persuit ultimately ending in a multi crash. The department tried to pin that on me and my partner. In the end we were exonerated because I’m heard on tape terminating my own pursuit. Never again. The only hot cars I get now are found parked on the street. Sometimes you can learn from a old timer. Learn this, NO MORE CHASES.
Ghetto lottery alert and ed just fed them some more! Just like the JVD incident they all agreed good shoot, political winds blow and they change their stories, and look at the mess they have created! Democrats are everything wrong with this country and especially this city which was voted "most corrupt in the USA" by a liberal magazine!

Not so simple my friend. Beat car activates his blue lights, realizes the car has increased speed to evade the officers. The beat car quickly stops the pursuit. Why the formal investigation? Would it hurt if Johnson said anything positive about his officers? Johnson only cares about politics and not to protect his officers. The message is clear; think before making a traffic stop.
then when COPA doesn't go their way, call in the FBI, then the U.N.

You may be driving safely, but the driver you’re following is not. The problem is that YOU are responsible for the outcome of the chase. If it ends well, then great. But if shit goes bad, YOU are responsible.
I have been lead in 3 chases (long ago) and I thank God nothing bad happened. The drivers were all arrested and we piled as many charges that we could find. You know what happened to the drivers in court in all 3 cases....NOTHING.

your comments are correct. When the criminal runs a red light and kills someone, the dead person's family will not sue the criminal ( they have no money) they will sue the city which has deep pockets and sue the officer personally who might be liable for violating policy. Don't be a fool, do not violate policy. By the way, in my time I have seen many a good officer killed in a vehicle pursuit or high speed driving to a " hot call". If any good comes out of this pursuit policy which severely restricts high speed chases, saving the lives of police officers should be it.
