Rumors EVERYWHERE
Half of the fun of this place is trying to pick out the rumors from the genuine information that pops up every so often. Like these:
- The command staff is to report to HQ to get their digital radios with a special federal channel in case everything goes to Hell. (might be true)
- Cancelled days off and 12-hour days start as soon as closing arguments begin, maybe as soon as Wednesday, certainly by the weekend (probably true, but dictated by the pace of trial)
- The Jewels’ store sent out a managers memo to put all shopping carts inside at night under lock and chain to discourage expected looters from carting out merchandise and limiting losses to hand carry. Also Oscos’ will not restock any liquor this week and suspended all deliveries.(would be the smart thing to do, so maybe true)
- CPS will allow all student to participate in any manner of choosing to protest at anytime during school hours. Buses and free lunches will be provided.(so nutty it HAS to be true)

Lost in all this is JVD. I can’t help but keep putting myself in his shoes and trying to imagine what he must be going through. Because we really have those type of goofs on the job: What you should do is take off your riot gear and helmet (so as to be more approachable and not look so intimidating to the community) and go into a large crowd of rioters and explain to them how you are going to give them a citation for obstructing traffic on the public roadway. I know it's easy for me to say, but I wouldn't take it.
In a politically-charged case like this and the political hot potato that it is, the prosecution must not be too confident in getting a conviction.
I'm guessing they're afraid JVD may walk and are trying to save face so as not to be the one's on the hot seat if theres a not guilty verdict.

This development has been shopped around the city. Humboldt Park did not want it. (I guess no money in it for Guitierez and Maldonado). These last few years leading up, now the trial and finally these last few days where his life is literally in the hands of 12 people that were never the police. They’re judging him by a video that lasted 6 seconds, but that they can slow down and dissect frame by frame. The state has had years now to do whatever they can to try to put this guy away for life, for what? For him going out and trying to take a crazed lunatic off the streets. Maybe he went to far that night and maybe some believe he shouldn’t have shot, but the kid was threatening with a deadly weapon, he was attempting to escape with a deadly weapon. Most times the governors wait too long, thinking about the politics of their decision, rather than have people in place before things get too bad. In a politically-charged case like this and the political hot potato that it is, the prosecution must not be too confident in getting a conviction.
I'm guessing they're afraid JVD may walk and are trying to save face so as not to be the one's on the hot seat if theres a not guilty verdict.
Just my opinion but I'd be leery of those scumbags.

If the State is making a deal offer at this late stage, it must mean that they are shaky about a conviction. If they had a solid case from the start, they might have made the announcement offer early on.
But this case was rammed (or 'Rahmmed) into court. No one wanted to try it.
Would I take the offer? No. Only because a prime rule of dealing is never take the first offer.

Partially true. Most riots have to be controlled by the police department and were. Army throops were flown in and a bivouac was set up in the park near Montrose harbor. They lived in tents and controlled the areas where the riots occurred once the majoring rioting was stopped by the CPD

Now that was embarrassing. But if it was Sunday, the Bears, Bulls and Cubs won that day. Airport guys probably were kicking back as usual. I'd say he was excited for the Chicago teams' wins.
