Tax Cheat
A "scheme" is oftentimes something against the law. If you cheat the government of many hundreds of thousands of dollars, it's definitely against the law. Paying it back is pretty much an admission of wrongdoing. Shouldn't this make him ineligible to be governor?
- Democratic governor candidate J.B. Pritzker will repay the Cook County treasurer’s office more than $330,000 worth of property tax breaks and tax refunds that the county’s inspector general contended he obtained as a result of a “scheme to defraud” taxpayers, his campaign said Tuesday.
The move came a day after a confidential report from Inspector General Patrick Blanchard became public, casting new light on an old line of attack by Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner, who criticized Pritzker as a “tax cheat” over the removal of toilets to help obtain a property tax reduction from an adjoining Gold Coast mansion he purchased.
Blanchard found that Pritzker’s wife, M.K. Pritzker, asked a contractor in 2015 to remove the mansion’s five toilets to make the home uninhabitable so it could be reassessed at a lower value. M.K. Pritzker’s brother and her personal assistant later made “false representations” in sworn affidavits to the assessor about the mansion’s condition and when the toilets were removed, Blanchard found.
We've been in plenty of homes with broken or non-existent plumbing and there were plenty of people (or folks) living there, but we don't think they were getting tax breaks amounting to hundreds of thousands.

I'm not a Republican, thought myself a Democrat, at least in principle, but there's NO WAY I can vote for Pritzker. The man is corrupt, vile, and stupid. The man is a self-entitled narcissistic boor of a billionaire, who apparently can't pass a filet mignon sandwich when he sees one. "Born Rich" isn't sufficient qualification to be an Alderman, much less Governor of Illinois. And it speaks volumes on HOW CORRUPT local Democratic Party politics are, that a numb-nuts billionaire like Pritzker, neck-deep into the Blagovich scandal, can nonetheless buy himself the ticket-spot as Democratic candidate for Governor of our sad-sack state.
If Pritzker is elected, and polls indicate he's a sure win, then Illinois voters will truly be held hostage to TAX AND SPEND governance for more years to come. 1) get a good set of wheel locks best from the dealer factory fit and finish
2) they want to take all 4 tires and wheels as a "set" to make it harder park close to the curb, turn your steering wheel all the way to the left or right to make it harder to get front tires off especially the side by the curb, they want all 4 and may pass your vehicle for a better easier target!
3) maybe this so called commander could assign more beat cars in the area you know the area that respects our police, and pays heavily in property taxes how about it boss?

Good tax the pensions I will never be able to retire with my 401scam you guys don't even realize how bad it is in the private sector if you don't make it into upper management you're screwed. All my parent's friends who don't have pensions live in a little one bedroom apartment barely get by on their social security checks.

Yeah, it's a scheme to lower their taxes, but hey - it worked didn't it. They had a spare house that didn't need the toilets at that time because no one was living there, and they figured out a way to lower their tax bill.
Worked out to $333K - which is some good money to remove the shitters for a while.
I'm assuming that once they decided to use the house again, or completed the renovations that the shitters went back in, and the place got reassessed at a higher amount.
Good for them. As for repaying it - whatever. $333K is a drop in the bucket for that guy. How much did he make off of the $333K he didn't have to pay? If he was truly sorry, he'd pay that into the kitty too, and add on another 100% because he was truly remorseful.

Do yourself a favor, read Gus Russo's excellent book on Mob, Daley Family, and politically-connected "Chicago Mogul" criminal-enterprise families, titled "SUPERMOB". Pritzkers are prominently featured. I wonder if Rauner ever read this book, because he'd understand and had navigated Chicago-Cook-Illinois politics far better if he had.
I don't see how he could get a certificate of occupancy from the city for a property that has no working toilets, so I don't get how this is cheating on his taxes. Just taking advantage of the law as written.

if you had put away 15% in your 401k plan your whole working life you would certainly be able to retire with a very nice income stream. Virtually anyone who worked 40 years and put away 15% of it would have more than $1,000,000 to live off when they retired, even with no employer contribution. Between that and SS you should be able to have a nice retirement. It is not someone else's fault you spent that money on something else.
