Another Reason for Thanks
- A 16-year-old boy was killed and another teenage boy was in custody after allegedly trying to rob an off-duty Chicago police officer at gunpoint Thursday morning in the Arcadia Terrace neighborhood on the Northwest Side.
At 2:23 a.m., the CPD officer was sitting inside his personal vehicle parked in the 5800 block of North Talman Avenue when the two teens walked over, CPD Deputy Chief Al Nagode said in the press conference after the shooting. The 16-year-old allegedly pointed a handgun and announced a robbery.
The officer handed over his belongings, Nagode said, but the second boy reached in the car and patted the officer down for more items. He located a second wallet that contained the officer’s police star, Nagode said. The 16-year-old allegedly pointed his gun at the officer and told him not to move. “The officer, knowing that he’s armed, was forced to pull out his weapon, and he fires at the individual,” Nagode said.
And of course, the gun was "stolen" from a family member:
- The 16-year-old boy’s stepfather reported the teen went missing with his weapon Wednesday night, Nagode said. The weapon recovered at the scene matched the description his stepfather provided.

Good point SCC, the trib calls it a “police involved shooting” in the title and in the article. Sounds like the Trib consults with COPA to find out how to word things in order to create the most hatred towards police officers. Here’s a thought: if the trib so freely identifies the victim as a cop, why don’t they also identify the race of the offender’s? Going out on a limb here - I’m guessing they were people of color?
Also astute readers, if they read between the lines, can put two and two together: it’s doubtful the punks knew he was a cop when they first tried to rob him. So this is proof that an armed and trained citizenry will not only deter crime, it can also at times help clean the scum from our streets. Not even the Trib can hide this truth.

My wife and I were disgusted yesterday when one of the local tv stations referenced this with the lead of "Police shoot and kill teenager". No context referencing that the honor student was armed or that he was jacking an off duty. The media is complicit in the war on police with such errors of omission. They love to fan the flames.
As for the print media I have completely given up on the Tribune. When you employ such liberal assholes as Eric "Zorno the clown" Zorn, Rex, The Dog Faced Boy" Hupke and Steve, "Chappy" Chapman you are not to be taken seriously.
Papers don’t mention the deceased’s interaction with this officer was the last on a long string of armed robberies and carjackings that night, including a close friend of mine, who spent the night at my house because she was afraid to go home. This weekend, we give thanks for the officers of the Chicago Police Department for keeping is safe as best they can.
The Tribune is pissed because lately the FOP has been correctly criticizing the Tribune, and calling them out for all their slanted, biased, agenda driven, inflammatory bullshit.

Here is the most sobering statistic, that a segment of the male black population that accounts for less that 6% of the US population, commits the majority of the violent crime in this country, including murder. If you were to remove the black population from the crime stats all together, the number of crimes committed in this country would plummet to a fraction of what it is now. There was a study done, but because it showed how much of the crime is committed by the black population it was deemed racist and never publicized. If you search online you can find it.

I have noticed that too. The last few years in fact, the media has been using goofy names that I have never heard of before, to identify neighborhoods in their news stories. I was born in the early 60’s and lived within the Chicago city limits my whole life, I know the city.
I also just shake my head when I hear news readers (there are no real reporters) pronounce street names wrong, latest one being pronouncing Paulina as Pauleena. But what can be expected from the fake news media.

I'm so old I remember when someone asked "where ya from" you said your Parish.
I grew up around Ferds (St. Ferdinand) but had friends at Bosco and Pascal. Pretty much told everyone where you live, places you went, who your friends were and if you were someone to mess with. The real "bad" kids put baseball cards (held on with clothes pins) on their Stingray so it just touched the spokes. Sort of like a Junior Hells Angels - until mom came out and yelled at you in front of your friends.... you pretty much had to just stand there and take it otherwise she would tell dad which, next to getting disciplined by a 4 1/2 foot Nun named "Knuckles," was just about the worse thing that could happen to anyone. No one was worse for the wear by getting smacked with an eraser for getting out of line. Times have changed, and not for the better.

To "Arcadia Terrace my Dupa" You have sent me on a happy walk down memory lane.I went to Bosco and we hung around Riis Park. During HS it was Hanson Stadium for football games. Hi Spot Lanes for bowling and Abruzzi Pizza on Grand Ave. Oh the good old days.
Glad the officer is okay. I lived about 6 blocks west of there when I was in high school in the late 1960s.That was a nice, safe, and very stable area. I would walk home around 10 pm after studying with a friend. Never had to worry about this kind of thing. Very sad.

I reckon the excuse for this kid’s behavior will be because he grew up poor. Well, here’s my story.
My friends and I grew up a step above poor or just plain poor during the 60s and 70s. We didn’t steal or disrespect the police. Ever. If we wanted something, we had some sort of a job (paper route, bagged groceries) and worked to buy it or we simply did without.
For my grade school graduation, my dad bought me a used bike on Maxwell Street. Growing up, I wore second hand clothes. We ate a lot of hotdogs, beans and drank powdered milk. No want or need to rob people. If pops was feeling flush, we’d get a new pair of shoes from Korvettes. If our “rich” relatives we’re giving us a gift, it was from Sears. We were grateful. No need or want to rob.
My mom died indigent, she never robbed anyone. My dad died broke and alcoholic, he never robbed anyone.
The difference is that nowadays kids are raised such that they don’t respect laws amd law enforcement, And they’re entitled. Elected and appointed officials don’t effectively punish criminals, thereby breeding more crime. This madness has to stop.
Another thing. If my parents would have ever caught me disrespecting anyone or stealing, my ass would have been kicked. No questions asked. In today’s world, a crime is a right of passage or its societies’ fault. WTF, why do so few people give a shit anymore and the others blame everyone/everything else instead of owning up to their actions?

Retired for 18yrs. worked Fillmore, TF-4, Area 4 robbery and 4 Homicide. I'm widowed and all the kids live in other parts of the Country. I'm here by choice and like being able to walk to Midway when I'm leaving town to visit friends and family. I've been involved in a couple of shootings and have investigated many police involved shootings while in Homicide. That being said, I'm glad the PO is not hurt and he did a great job taking out this 16yr old punk-ass, who was going to eventually kill one of his victims in the near future. For the life of me, I cannot figure this States Attorney and her unwritten policy of not charging the other with murder. I know this goes without saying, please keep your head on swivel, be armed all the time, sit in restaurants with your backs against the wall, BACK your vehicle into the garage, practice practice, get you mind right, and think like a gunfighter. I can't slug it out with the young bulls anymore, but I have maintained proficiency with pulling the trigger. Without sounding foolish, I incorporate the CPD in my prayers every night. I've been looking at property and all the real estate sites/apps have names for these neighborhoods. This has been going on for years. If you've been living here as long as you say you have, you should know that.
I grew up in Arcadia Terrace. The name was used more so in the past, when Mather High was still a good school full of local jewish kids.

There ain't no 39th Street. Pershing Road is 3900 South. But there is a 39th Place.
The train tracks just east of Normal (Canal at some places) to Halsted, Pershing Road to the viaduct at 49th Street is now called Bridgeport Village! No more C-word name, but saying "I live in the Village" remains accurate.
