Hyde Park Reaps the Whirlwind
- Roving groups of teenage vandals wreaked havoc across the Hyde Park neighborhood on Halloween night, getting into fistfights, throwing eggs and golf balls and even setting at least two cars on fire, according to Chicago police.
No injuries were reported during the roughly three-hour spree, which coincided with Halloween events in the area meant to draw young people. Two University of Chicago students reported being beaten by large groups of people, but weren’t seriously injured.
During the first wave of trouble, police said a large group was seen throwing eggs, golf balls and punches at a Halloween event near Hyde Park’s commercial strip in the 5300 block of South Lake Park Avenue just after 7:15 p.m.
Police arrested 11 juveniles and an adult and later cited them for public peace violation after they refused orders to disperse, authorities said in a statement.
About two hours later, a separate large group smashed windshields and jumped on car hoods as they walked along East 54th Street between Kimbark Avenue, Kenwood Avenue and Ridgewood Court. At least two cars had fireworks tossed into them, although a resident was able to extinguish one of the fires, according to a police spokeswoman.
Sounds like the French banlieues where the "non-assimilated" riot with impunity, don't allow the police in and burn roughly 1,000 cars every year. How many feet was this from the Obama house? and from the future Obama Non Library?

Another resident, Eva, said she's mad at the juveniles who caused the damage and caused fear among residents. She said she can't understand the inaction of police.
“There should have been some arrests at least because they had been following them and saw what was going on,” she said.
She said some of the kids came back and taunted the residents and said “obscene things.”
There isn't any law against saying "obscene things." And with eleven arrests, we're hoping that "Eva" might show us exactly how to keep the peace under the new Consent Decree that she probably cheered for. We're sure it will involve cookies, warm milk and feather dusters. Perhaps a prayer circle and some Kumbaya around a burning car?

The Halloween rioting in Hyde Park is one of the most delightful things happening every year on the South Side. There is a word for this - schadenfreude - taking pleasure in the misfortunes of others. Hyde Park is this bastion of wealth, education, and liberalism tucked tightly between Kenwood and Woodlawn/Washington Park. The wealth and “whiteness” of it is and always has been an irritant to Chicago’s South Side. Every economic, class, or racial slight – whether perceived or real – felt by the youth in Woodlawn and Washington Park gets aired out on one night. Get those at risk youth, many who look like if the previous president and alumnus of the U of C if had a son, to get busy, go to work and get down with the Al Gore (D) created internet. A mind is a terrible thing to waste. The at risk youth will put down their 9mm Intertecs and get up on the Internets!
Open the University of Chicago campus to neighborhood youth and host Bill Clinton (D) initiated midnight basketball leagues. Naïve but super smart students after hitting the books all day can be entertained and get some release watching the neighborhood youth act sociably creating a bond or a grass roots coalition of students and neighborhood youth. Problems solved.

On the subject of the 002 District.
Recently I pulled into the lot and noticed a significant percentage of personal cars parking diagonally in parking spots, up 2 parking spots. There was even one older vehicle which parked over 3 parking spots, as if their vehicle was in a dealer showroom. I counted 17 vehicles that were parked in this fashion, whose owners believe they are entitled to take up 2 parking spots. If these vehicle owners are so afraid of their vehicles being damaged, then they should consider leaving them at home in the garage and not driving them at all. All vehicles get damaged over time when you drive them. It was bad enough that an 30 year old RV was parked in the 001 district lot for 9 years hogging up 4 spots, and never once moved.
To all those who park like their car is the only car in the world, leave the damn car at home and uber it to work.
Maybe the University of Chicago can spread some of their uber-wealth and use their socialist leaning spread the wealth philosophies. Using one of the social justice paradigms, the U of C can divert juvenile offenders to a position of trust in a jobs programs spread throughout their campus in a diversion program offering other alternatives to incarceration. Juvenile offenders throughout the city will be compensated with no less than minimum wage as mandated by aldermanic and mayoral fiat.
The best and brightest have social justice constructs so why not have those best and brightest mingle with those who have been doing their part in the social justice system with minor brushes with the law? Who better to rehabilitate misguided youth than those thinking heads who seem to have all the answers. And lets not forget their anti-police rhetoric and public policy interference. Let the U of C campus and the progressive Hyde Part nose in the air inclusive community sort this mess out.

I'm conservative, a big supporter of the second amendment and the average street cop, and I'm MTF Trans. That "tranny training" is important because few people understand trans people, and fewer still have met one. I'd prefer that an officer who has to interact with me at least understands what gender is all about, so that the interaction is professional, and safe for both the officer and the civilian.
I've done a ton of training in my area with law enforcement and military types, and have been treated with the utmost respect and professionalism. Good training makes that all happen.
Not all trans people are left-wing, whack jobs, who don't have a clue what the cops are up against.

I worked in 021 when McGovern was running for president. The residency law had recently been changed from 6 months to 1 month.
University of Chicago students went and registered to vote in the City of Chicago.
When we pulled over students with out of state license plates for traffic violations they were prompt to produce Voter Registration Cards showing their Chicago residence.
We then locked them up for no drivers license, no Illinois plates, and no city sticker. They screamed but we pointed out to them that they had appeared before an official of the Voters Commission and claimed to be a Chicago resident and with that they were responsible to have proper licenses.
I believe it was a hundred dollars cash bond and they had to scramble to produce it.
The women were the best, the desk sergeant said he wasn't waiting for anyone and had a wagon take them to women's detention at 11th & State.

I think it was a huge success. CPD effectively de-escalated while maintaining a zone of safety and maintained a strong police presence which ultimately resulted in the incident being mostly limited to property damage. Two thumbs up and a big smiley face.

I've done a ton of training in my area with law enforcement and military types, and have been treated with the utmost respect and professionalism. Good training makes that all happen.

The interaction WILL be safe for the officer, and you...if you are not posing a threat, and follow direction.
All citizens have the right to redress any issues they have with police. However, you must play by the rules.
Redress does not occur on the scene, it occurs after the interaction. The police will conduct the investigation to a criminal complaint made by a citizen. There is no room for debate at the scene. No room for citizens telling the police at a scene how to do their job, and if a citizen is placed under arrest that citizen MUST comply. The validity of the arrest will be decided in court, not on the scene by arguing.
As for gender, police just have to respect your identity, we do not have to agree with it, applaud it or kiss your collective asses about it.
Trans, straight, gay, zero identity groups deserve no more respect than any other group of citizens.

Although I am not the original poster, I wanted to respond, to you, or any other LGBT readers. I think the LGBT community would be quite surprised with most (if not all) coppers experience with the LGBT community. Some of the BEST bosses I have ever had on the job were lesbians. I would go into battle any day with them.
Coppers have more encounters with trans people than most would expect, and, although different at first, handling an offender/victim/ witness that is LGBT just becomes like anoyone else.
Unfortunately, since most LGBT are liberal and vote left, their encounters with the police are always portrayed negatively.
I only ask that those in the LGBT community that have positive encounters with the police please let it be known to others and help erase the narrative pushed by the left

OT. Re SWAT turmoil. I hope they get paid D(#) bc of response, training etc. that said, the officers took that position knowing what the pay scale was and what was expected of them (not referring to hospitalizing swat recruits) if they don’t want to answer and get paid to respond to SWAT defined situations, leave the unit. That mentality means people will get injured or killed including your teammates. That thinking would be like bomb guys saying they’re not responding to vehicle bombs or K9 not coming to do searches bc dog isn’t feeling it. We all have a job to do regardless of what we get paid etc. every unit has pay, equipment, training issues. that benefit fight is at FOP level not on street. My two cents.

Is it possible that your brain and body chemistry make you believe you're a female who was born with male parts? Absolutely. We call that mental illness and denial, if you choose to believe you're female. You can choose to mutilate your body and play the part your brain has told you to play, but that doesn't change your gender. However, since you believe you can decide your gender is different from your biological gender, do you also believe one can choose a different race? So kids can "decide" for themselves. Talk about pushing an agenda. What I find strange with that is they feel children are capable of making that decision but they still have the age of consent at 16 or sometimes even 18 (as it in Tennessee). It sounds like the police did what they have been asked to do. I have not heard of any excessive force/etc. complaints. None of the children seem to have felt threatened or offended by any law enforcement officer. All the children went home happy. It looks like a good day was had by all, except for those whose cars were damaged - but at least the children had their fun. Rite of passage? Or just another night out?

You are the exception in some aspects. 1) Being a trans and conservation and 2) understanding what the police are up against. Thank you for your support of the police. But, you are an anecdotal example.
That being said. Do you really believe you are that special 11000 + sworn police officers and civilians (just CPD not sure if other city departments have to take the “training”) have take 90 minute training course for what equates to <0.01% of the population? Do you really think you are that special the US needs to change laws in schools, bathrooms, military, ECT...? Is inconveniencing more than 99% of the population your goal? Because that’s what this movement is doing.
You can do what you want with your life, I don’t care. But, when your life affects my families or mine, there’s a problem. Believing something you are not is delisional. To believe a child can make up his or her mind and decide what sex they are is delusional and child abuse. To believe gender dismorphia is not a real mental disorder is delusional. To believe gender is fluid is delusional. To believe you are that important to change science, history, and laws is delusional. To believe the English language needs to amended to make people who believe they are not the sex they were born more comfortable is delusional. Wanting to use pluralities were the singular should be used is delusional.
I can’t speak for everybody. But, I am not denying your humanity or right to live. But, I am denying and fighting is the belief that I should and need to accept what you believe you are. You are not what you believe you are. Get help. The trans agenda is not normal and pushing it on children and is schools should be treated as child abuse.

The hyde park liberals have been getting burglarized and robbed by their "poor, disadvantaged youths" for decades. He could cancel your days off and make you stand guard outside his house so he can enjoy his Thanksgiving tofurkey with junior bean and the lietenant. I lived in Hyde Park decades ago, and the Illinois ACLU filed suit complaining about how the University of Chicago police detained suspected criminals. The Illinois ACLU lost a lot of membership, because a significant fraction of Illinois ACLU membership lived in Hyde Park, and had zero interest in restricting the ability of the U of C police to detain suspects.
It was obvious that the only reason why Hyde Park was tolerably safe was due to the efforts of the Chicago police and University of Chicago police - it takes a special kind of stupid to be anti-police in a place like that.
