Promotion Class Promised?

So the comment section lit up with multiple comments regarding a promotional class coming up on 10 December. We don't know if this was a Special Ed e-mail as has been his habit a week or so before announcing a list of what.

We've seen numbers running from 50-to-100 Detectives, 60 sergeants, and 0-to-10 lieutenants. Someone also posted that the "merit" names are a wonder to behold, so there must be some political favors being granted before the upcoming election.

No idea why they'd do this before Christmas.

Another tidbit from today's trial. Witness Torres, who does not stick around after the shooting, goes to IPRA after he sees the news the following day. He does not call police, FBI, or any other official agency. IPRA is the only agency he tells his story to and provides his info to.

Afterwards, who shows up at his house? Jamie Kalven a journalist, to discuss his statement he made to IPRA.

Torres is pissed because IPRA gave his info out and he thought his statement to IPRA would be confidential.

So why was IPRA handing out confidential info to a journalist? It's not the only time they've leaked info. Why are we to believe COPA, who has many of the same employees, does not continue the leaks.

Let’s do some simple math.... 2019 is an election year. That will bring a few of our most NOBLEST members to retire. There’s an endless line of slime from the merit slugs that need to be made while the current merit slugs are in power. All that equates to is a couple of promotional classes to get the last minute clouted in spots. Prepare yourself for the grand finale of merit promotions.

Just curious how much did it cost for a spot on the latest merit list. Follow the money Mr inspector. Nothing happens in city without money exchanging hands, it is the Chicago Way. In this case it is also a matter of Chicago Values, how much to be on the list. Kind of a Chicago twofor.

The contrast between our "line of brass" at an event or news conference and the best and brightest of other cities is an awesome
sight to see.......
Teetering side to side, chewing gum, nine different uniforms, unauthorized hairstyles, lovely painted nails and lips, three time merit picks.
2500+ shot, 500 killed.....
Rahm's idea of a prosperous big city boasting 25 millions visitors a year....sure, add some more triple merits to the line up....

Gangs were worse then, murders were up No reason with modern technologies the detective division can’t get more clear ups. Make the arrest and if ASA doesn’t approve, you can still clear the case. Part of the consent decree. Those idiots thought CPD needed more supervisors and made that a big part of the report. You don’t think the mayor wants more supervisors and the associated additional expense
Evidently the authors of the report watch tv where police supervisors in most departments actually do some work, not surfing the net and watching TV

Some of those merit people also scored better than you, but just jumped the line a bit to get made a little earlier. I personally don't think they should go much beyond the top 500 for promoting to sergeant. If you're around 500 or lower on the list, you should feel very lucky that you even have a shot at being promoted. Study harder next time and you won't have to worry so much about the merit people.

So probably 100 or so merit that were in the 1000's is ok but someone who scored 500 needs to study more. OK got it, makes perfect sense. And you're right why would those 8-10 year clout babies want to wait their turn to be promoted, have to qualify for the Lt's test and take another merit bite out of the apple.

Hey SuckHole, very few of the people who scored good, but not great, get promoted meritoriously. The people who know they are making merit don't normally put that much heart into the studying part of the process. They put ALL of their heart and lips into the ass-kissing part of the process. How else do you think Wynter Jackson from HR can recognize outstanding police-work? Or the person from Building management? The original commenters point is that he is eliminated from the process scoring in the mid 350's, but the merit suck-holes can be a viable candidate 2000 spots back. Fact, yes, fair, no.

So let's get this straight. Obviously you received a merit promotion or are waiting for one. In your infinite wisdom you believe someone who scored less then 500 on the Sgt's list but has some clout should use that clout to get promoted asap rather then wait for their number to be called. You also think that someone who lands around 500 on the list should "thank their lucky stars" that they might actually get promoted legitimately because you being a merit Sergeant don't think anyone 500 or over should be promoted at all. Interesting. We didn't even touch on the fact that 100 or so people are invited to "study groups" you know NOBLE, 011 district Tact teams, Mauer's guys etc, etc, etc. The fix is in pal I know, this is Chicago and "Chicago ain't ready for reform." So I'll do what I have to to get by and since I'll have my 29 and be 55 soon enough I'll wish you and everybody else on this job well. Be safe brothers and sisters.

Did I say that? With your total lack of reading comprehension, I'm guessing you didn't even come close to cracking the top 3,000. I was very obviously speaking only of the merit people who also scored in the top 500. There are more than a few. I know 4 merit sergeants who would've made it on score by now, but jumped the line by a few classes. Is it right? Maybe not. Did any of them take a spot from Mr. 500+? Nope. Merit hack? Sorry to disappoint you, but I was in the top 50.

Hey MathWhiz, you missed my point... as well as the point of the original commenter. He didn't score in the mid-350s. If he did, he'd be promoted by now, since he stated "there" almost at 500 now, and he would've been promoted two classes ago if not for the 150 merit promotions. Based on your own assertion that very few of the merit promotions were people who also scored well, that means the original commenter scored somewhere around 500. I was simply pointing out that not all of the merit people promoted ahead of him pushed him back a spot. I was not saying merit people deserve it more, or that civilian bosses should be picking sergeants from the bottom of the list, or that merit is awesome. Some merit picks didn't know they were going to get promoted via merit until after the test was given. So they probably studied harder than those who were already promised a spot. But all of this makes too much sense, so I must be wrong, and a merit suckhole, because you and Mr. 500+ are angry. Keep on whining and you'll make sergeant soon enough.

But all of this makes too much sense, so I must be wrong, and a merit suckhole, because you and Mr. 500+ are angry. Keep on whining and you'll make sergeant soon enough.

Sounds like the two of you need to you need to handle this debate at a bar over a beer

Wynter Jackson from HR...isnt she the head of MLAS (management and labor affairs)---its like the original poster is a Chicago news reporter (print and screen)---just say some crap, don't bother to do any research, fact checking, review or edits---just get it out there - accuracy be damned

8 Merit Sgt’s would have been called by number at this point. That means 142 did not score under 500 but are somehow more qualified then those that did. Makes perfect sense.

Actually Mathwhiz, if they’re on 500 promoted Sgts and he would’ve been promoted 2 classes ago that means he scored better than 500. But because of merit he’s been pushed back past 500. And you were top 50 off the list? Yea ok.

Been that way for years, many years. Do you think in the 60’s , 70’s and 80’s they cooperated. Get a clue. Gangs were worse then, murders were up No reason with modern technologies the detective division can’t get more clear ups. Make the arrest and if ASA doesn’t approve, you can still clear the case. And don’t forget about the videos as a investigative tool or the advancenent in DNA. Excuses are getting old

you mean the 60's when all the detective had to say was "He confessed?" Ya, it don't work that way anymore.

Just another excuse. You really think that’s all they did? There were days the squad room was almost empty because they were on the streets, not on the phones all day. Yea everyone cooperated with them, community was engaged with the police.

once upon a time CPD had a Youth Division , Homicide Sex Unit ,Burglary Unit , Robbery Unit , General Assignment Unit , Auto Theft Unit , Gang Crimes Unit .
All headed by a Unit CO , rank of Lt. filled with working Sgt's and Detectives
a few times a year the dead weight would be demoted
Now the dead weight are promoted meritoriously to detective and Sgt assigned to D Unit
CPD also had Task Force assigned to areas on Patrol in District Hot Spots and
Tactical teams that made arrests , looked for bad guys , not complete ISR ,ANOV's
the community activist gave every major city a police force that cannot arrest bad guys , it started in january 2009 , thank a democrat , fake news and fake reverends with love child and tax cheats

LMAO. Yeah a “test” which no one grades, or ever sees again once submitted. Can’t stop laughing. Thank you. It’s all legit kid lol.

Each Area had Youth Division people, a Homicide Sex Unit, Burglary Unit, Robbery Unit, General Assignment Unit, Auto Theft Unit, Gang Crimes Unit and each was individually run by a Lieutenant and each was manned with Sergeants and detectives or Youth Officers or police officers. (Youth Investigators and Gang Specialists were not yet invented) The G/A Unit Lieutenant was in charge of the facility as the Commanding Officer. On paper he was the big boss of the Area, but in reality the other Lieutenants reported thru their own chain to their boss at HQ, although the Lieutenants would be careful to keep the C/O in the loop on a heater case so as to not diss him. There were no "her" bosses yet. Also, the G/A Lieutenant knew when and where to leave well enough alone.
