You know, when money was tight around the house, we stopped spending so much of it. We didn't cruise over to the 'burbs and rob the neighbor's house. Here's another truly dumb idea from a Daley:
- Mayoral candidate Bill Daley on Wednesday said Chicago should consider a commuter tax on suburbanites and a host of other new revenue sources to help solve the city’s looming pension crisis.
Chicago’s next mayor will have to come up with hundreds of millions of dollars in additional annual payments to the city’s public employee pension funds, and Daley said he’s studying whether those who work in the city but live in the suburbs should help foot the bill.
“We have to find new revenues, and everything is on the table,” Daley said 13 minutes into his 30-minute speech. “Marijuana, casinos, commuter taxes, real estate transfer taxes — and reforms to the system — must be on the table.”
How about reducing the size of government? Eliminating over-inflated gold braid and aldermanic pensions? Maybe free up TIF money? Reform crooked contracting? Approve the long promised casino?
The possibilities are endless, but always seem to center around picking taxpayer pockets.

Fuckin pea brains. Morton Grove and Niles are finishing up pipelines to dump Chicago as their water supplier and going with Evanston due to the ridiculous pricing from Chicago. Commercial real estate in the suburbs is being bought up and renovated in anticipation of lots of companies getting out of the city. Maybe they see the writing on the wall. Same old corrupt politicians created the problem. Now they want the middle class people to pay no matter where they live due to politicians own mishandling and corruption. These people never heard of an austerity plan. Stop spending for a decade on stupid shit and concentrate on fixing infrastructure that is crumbling. Stop paying more than ONE pension no matter how many connected jobs you had. 1 person, 1 pension. Our forefathers would have been shooting already. Wait til Jaba the hut takes the oath. There will be no end in sight to the taxes and fees.
My first thought upon hearing this: residency requirement being dropped would be dangled in front of us, provided that we end up paying a tax to work in this shithole in exchange for living in a lesser shithole...

That’s a city income tax in disguise. The next proposal will have city residents paying to drive to work and then we would have the liberal nirvana of a true city income tax. I have a relative who is a DOT Officer you want to know something scary how many illegal truck drivers with no CDL that he arrests every week and because of sanctuary laws he can't contact immigration they make bail disappear.
$20 Million - Bike lanes...
$100 million - Train station that doesn't connect to anything, and has NEVER been used
$30 Million - private stadium
$20 million - bike lane "flyover" of LSD

* Speed cameras tax

* Sales tax surcharge for being in the McPier vicinity
* Demented sales tax even when out of that area
* Parking costs

How is that a cure? That will really help it. Less taxes paid to the state will cure it. Less residents to fund the pensions will really be a cure.

I am not defending the gold braid, but they also contribute to the pension at the current rate for a Commander, Captains, Lieutenant or Sgt. That has nothing to do with why the fund has its issues.

So easy, problems solved? Take a look at the school problems in the state of Colorado, where pot is legal. From an April, 2018 article, "Colorado teachers are protesting this week for higher salaries and increased money for schools, prompting questions about why the state's booming marijuana sales have not fixed the funding problems." California, which projects as much as $1 billion in annual tax revenue from recreational-marijuana, will spend the bulk of that on substance-abuse education and treatment programs. And take a look at SF and what a shithole it's become. Washington state, complaining about funding education and why pot taxes aren't fixing it. As one young man working in a college library in Oregon put it, everyone here is high. Look at the state of Portland these days. Want still more of the progressive left-coast nut-jobs in Illinois? Legalize weed. And of course the corrupt Chicago politicians would just love to get their hands on the recreational pot tax money. But where will it go??? To fix the real problems for all or for pet projects and in their pockets? And still there will be the same shortfalls and excuses.
Then there isn't even a reliable DUI test for weed. So more problems in that regard as well. But by all means legalize it now.
As far as legalizing prostitution, many studies have pointed to that increasing human trafficking. Even former prostitutes say that and are not in favor of legalizing it.

No difference.It's calculated the same way..the four highest consecutive years within the last 10.

You shouldn’t be defending the gold braid. Most are Lts who paid into the pension as Lts Sgt and po’s and then the last 4 years as exempt is the basis for their pension. Pay the lower pension rates for 25 to 30 years be an exptemt for 4. That sure isn’t helping our pension problem

There’s a reason they are downtown. It’s the business district. That’s where they either want to be or have to be. That’s where the jobs are
If they could easily move anywhere, they would have already. The city and you have given them a reason with all the taxes you listed and they are still here. One or a few more taxes aren’t going to change anything and they will just pass any additional taxes on to the consumer, usually at 2 or 3 times the cost they incurred

I think John Galt is the guy who took RAND Rd far away from Chicago into the Promised Land known as Wisconsin where the novel concept of keeping most of what you earn seems to have taken a foothold. But alas, that same road that took Mr. Galt also took those who wanted to tax non Chicagoans who have the nerve to pursue the little things in life; like being out after dark without the worry of getting shot, being out during the day without the worry of being carjacked, schools that actually teach students, classmates who value an education and strive to be better citizens as well as a few other concepts almost completely unknown to the current group of Leaching-Americans.
Giving money to the city is like giving drugs to an addict, it's never enough and it's never good enough.
Daley’s are a criminal organization just like the Clintons and Sopranos.
