Salt Free Driving

Has Rahm allowed Streets and San to put down even a spoonful of salt on a side street? We know that once again, we haven't seen a plow with the blade down in the neighborhood - they just run the trucks around once or twice making ruts for people to drive in.

And how about all those bike lanes, especially in the "under-served neighborhoods," where no one used them when the weather was nice and now can't be plowed.

Side streets on far N/W side are brutal! Plows never came through. And if they did, the blades sure as Hell weren’t down. All the side streets around my block are frozen snow & slush. I feel like I’m off roading when I drive down the street, not an ounce of salt dropped. But yet you drive in the nearby suburbs and their streets are clear curb to curb. I never understood why the plows can’t go curb to curb around the parked cars when feasible. This place sucks!

A city that can't fund the pensions, pay for health insurance for retiree's, keeps raising taxes, and can't find enough things to sell to make money. BUT... WE HAVE BIKE LANES UP THE BUTT AT A COST OF HOW MUCH A MILE ($1,000,000.00 A MILE???)!!! Really does anyone know, is there a plan or does this shitty just run by the seat of it's pants??? We need more dump trucks in case it snows, you know the ones that just sit there and never take a load, too bad they can't ask MUMBLES any questions about his ETHICS OR LACK THEREOF!!!

In the 45th. Ward (Arena) about 2 weeks ago the Park District blew all the leaves out of the park into the street. So a couple days later the steet sweeper was supposed to come for the last cleaning (there are 4 scheduled cleanings per year) they didn't post any signs and never came. So the plow came late Tue and made 2 passes did not drop the blade. Now when you drive down the street it feels like you are driving on river rock. Oh they also forgot to do some of the pot holes from last summer. When you call to complain they are checking into it but they ask for your name, address & phone. Yea that's a good idea. So as mad Maxine says: "Impeach 45" but I mean the local one.

Yet you read the Chicago Trib editorial page's "reader letters", and there's not a peep about neglected city services. Rather than posting snide comments here, where there's little net positive change to be affected, or in addition to your comments here, which me personally I enjoy reading, why not write a letter to Trib editorial page? Why not write an email to your alderman? Why not a letter to King Rahmula? Voter complacency is the single biggest reason Chicago, Cook County and Illinois are so fucked-up.

Looks like his streets and sanitation commissioner John Tully is trying to show rahm how he is saving money by not using salt! I live in the 14th ward been trying putting in request to get light repaired zero responses going on 6 weeks now, looking more and more like the west end of 014 that Eddie Burke needs to stay in office are being neglected as usual! Wonder will another Hispanic take the alderman's spot, after his brother Danny Burke lost to a young Hispanic kid?

No salt on the north side side streets. It would have been relatively simple to help keep the ice at bay, but they couldn't be bothered. Now we're stuck with dangerous conditions until it warms up. This does not bode well for the upcoming winter.

Maybe Rahm is trying to give our clothes, our cars and the environment a break by cutting back on the ridiculous amounts of the horrendously corrosive road salt they typically use.

In WI, where they get more winter weather and snow than us, they don’t use the ridiculous amounts of road salt that Chicsgo does.... yet they get by just fine.

It's all in the master plan. City can't afford health insurance, so they are just cutting your intake of sodium. It's bad for your heart and blood pressure. And shoveling is good exercise, so go ahead and shovel a couple of blocks of streets. Salted streets are only for democrat party voters!

I was just up in Morton Grove and Niles, their side streets that I was on are clear of snow, plowed curb to curb. And on Milwaukee Ave. Niles has a small yellow front loader type machine with a snow blower attachment and they were doing the sidewalk. Get back to the city the main streets are great but the side streets are full of lumpy ice.

I bet the non-taxpaying areas such as Englewood are free of snow and well salted. The city wouldn't want a vehicle committing a drive-by to be stranded, nor do they want the addicts to slip and fall while on their way for "rocks and blow". People really need to wake the fuck up. The government only wants and needs the law abiding workers for their tax money, with which the same workers will never see services come their way. The leeches eat well, have subsidized utilities, housing vouchers, free phones, free internet, nice cars, etc. This is all courtesy of the working taxpayers.

NOTE TO ALL CHICAGO READERS;

On the extreme southeast side (Hegewisch to be exact, 130th to 138th streets, 10th Ward) all streets are plowed AND salted AND ALL alleys are plowed by someone with a 4 wheeler plow within 24 hours of all snowfalls. It's been happening for years. The Alderwoman claims to have no knowledge of who does this and who is paying for that small area to receive alley service.

However, if you were to check Whiting Indiana and Hammond Indiana you would find they also get this service (and get the alleys plowed for every show). I find it amazing that a smaller town (Whiting) can do this with smaller equipment and Hammond a larger city, bigger than the 10th Ward can do the same.

And Chicago only cleans the Mag Mile and the Loop area. With so much more taxes collected, and more equipment available, we receive almost nothing in return.

When we get Lake effect snow along the entire east side from Evanston to Indiana, there have been times when the city plowed the alleys so people can get in their cars and go yo work. Your Alderpersom will deny that it happens, but it does happen after they receive thousands of calls. The city does have heavy equipment that can remove 4, 5, 6, and 7 feet of alley snow when it wants to.

I cannot tell you how many times I have seen the plows just sitting and waiting for some baffoon at snow command to give the order to start plowing or salting. Truck drivers being paid union wage rates to do nothing but wait.

No wonder so many are leaving town.

Just Saying.....

What Me Worry, Wahm ?
Another NW side dupe.
Plow came by but didn’t bother to do any curb-to-curb service, they left a 2’ high mound of slush to freeze overnight.
The real time plow tracking doesn’t show plows actually pushing slush or drizzling some chemically enhanced salt-like substance into the sewer system. Strict orders.
Cutting the overtime, the product and the bottom line to divert excess winter funds to summer Sanctuary efforts.

Did the RavenswoodDetail shovel a couple spots and who put out the lawn chairs to save them?
Who digs out Special Ed’s hooptie?
Did Eddie ‘Muenster’ Burke have his street squeegeed?

Talk about old salts...

Retired and living elsewhere in Illinois. 10 inches of snow and the township snow plows had it under control by about 8am. It was blizzard like from about 8 to 11pm and I was up at 6am and the road had already been done once, pavement visible and sand/cinder mix dropped. At 7am plow was back and did edge to edge plowing, again sand mix dropped. Plow was back later just doing clean up and dropped more sand mix. Life is totally different outside of ChiTown and Cook County.

im retired and now live in a town in sw will county. when it snows the state, county, township and city are all over it. repeated passes with blade and salt, widen all the intersections and lots of salt. in the downtown areas all the sidewalks are done the first night including all muni parking lots. they stock pile everything and come back the next day to haul it all off. i did city plowing with heavy equipment, phase 2&3 for decades during every big blizzard in the 70s,80s,and 90s and i was never in a good nieghborhood. curb to curb on ghetto streets with 3 houses on them. often we would have a political kommisar giving us directions on which important houses, dope corners and chuches to clean. several times i worked for dorothy tillman directly, the potty mouth queen. we didnt work for wards, we were city wide snow troops. best part was after a fun 12 hour shift go home to my heavily taxed residencey island and have to shovel out a spot on an impassable ice covered street. i spent my entire career providing city services to areas that pay no taxes and rarely ever worked a decent tax paying area. we are and have been getting fucked by these democrats. the election results prove there is no turning this around. florida here i come lol.
