For what? Being young, dumb, in a hotel on a stolen credit card, intoxicated and wandering around somewhere you weren't supposed to be after your "friends" abandoned you?
- The mother of a woman who was found dead in a suburban Chicago hotel freezer is suing the hotel, its security company and the restaurant that may have been leasing the space where the 19-year-old was found.
Jenkins of Chicago was attending a party at a Rosemont hotel last year. Her body was found about 24 hours after family members contacted police and the hotel to report she was missing.
Surveillance video showed Jenkins wandering alone through a kitchen area near the freezer.

The lawyer did this knowing many of the hotel and security employees at the time no longer work there and would be hard to get hold of for depositions.

Gotta love the one count of the complaint at law in which the plaintiff alleges that the security company failed to stop the party even though there was the strong smell of "intoxicants" present in the hallway and that the partygoers had disabled the smoke detector in the room. Care to guess what type of profiling the security would have been guilty of had they stopped the party. Ah, lawyers.

I don't believe that the mother will get much, if anything, if this civil case goes to trial.
While I do agree with her that there should have been some sort of security present in the lobby to have prevented an intoxicated/impaired guest from wandering throughout the place, ultimately, it was the friends of this young girl that should have kept her in the room, so that something so tragic as this could not have happened.
It was preposterous of the mother's attorney to make the baseless allegation that someone may have locked that victim of this tragic accident in the freezer, when the video shows nothing like that ever occurred. Shame on him for pandering to the the media. Try your case in a courtroom, where it belongs!

We plan to to file suit against the estate of person previously identified as "Popsicle A", and we will be seeking damages in excess of $250,000,000.000. It is the contention of aforementioned plaintiffs that "Popsicle A" caused her own demise by being, well, an idiot. To wit; intoxicated & stumbled herself into a restricted area. Said act caused mental anguish for those who found the defendant, and also resulted in monetary loss for restaurant because the inventory of prime rib was rendered unusable.
Look in the phone book and you will find that there are more lawyers than Doctors in Chicago. So finding a POS lawyer to file a law suit over anything is easy. The hotel could sue for the loss of freezer space and some POS lawyer will file. And that friends and neighbors is only one of the things that contributes to the F-up world we live in. To 12:41am you are another.

Umm no... and for a whole variety of reasons:
My family members don't use stolen credit cards.
My family members don't mix alcohol with prescription drugs they aren't prescribed.
My family members don't attend ghetto parties at hotels.
My family members don't wander alone into freezers where they have no business wandering.
My family members wouldn't blame anyone but the deceased for the stupidity that caused the death in this case.
My family members would mourn the dead, and feel saddened that they lost a young member of the family due to illegal activities like using stolen credit cards to attend illegal parties with underage drinking and drug use.
My family members would not for one second even think to sue anyone or blame anyone else for what happened.
My family members possess common sense and a sense of responsibility for their actions.
Stupidity and carelessness combined with criminal acts should not entitle the stupid, careless criminal or their family to millions of dollars.
I guess some of us are just raised differently... like with responsible parents and stuff... and accountability for our actions. You should try it.

I got into a lively discussion with a white liberal lawyer and a few other liberals about crime. They blamed the police department for the crime rate in black areas calling it the result of" over policing". When i mentioned personal responsibility, they called me a racist. The current buzz word and excuse for just about everything that is wrong with the black inner city culture is to label the person " a racist".

When I saw the news yesterday about this $50 million dollar Lawsuit I couldn't believe it. Then about a second later I went ... yeah, I believe it.
You can't fix stupid.
That aside, I wonder how the family arrived at this outrageous amount. It used to be that dollar amounts were based on what that person's value would be if they reached the typical old age, in earnings. And then some value for what it would cost to raise any siblings the person had until the kid(s) reached 'majority', 21 years old.
Taking that all into account, the fact is there's no way in hell that this Kenneka Jenkins moron would earn 1/10th of $50 million dollars if she lived a full lifetime. And she certainly wasn't going to be paying tuition for any children to go to Yale.
Ergo, this lawsuit *should be* laughed out of a courtroom. And the shyster lawyer punished by the IL Bar Association for participating in this farce, and giving false hope to the 'Ice Queen's'(/s) grieving mother that there's a huge payday here. A just end to this charade would be the court ordering dear old mommy to PAY the legal fees for the wrongfully accused Hotel and associated parties.

This case should never get to trial. Summary judgment should be granted in favor of the defendants by even the most stupid judge in the Law Division. Costs should be assessed against the family. The family is bringing Dr. Kevorkian’s lawyer, Jeffrey Feiger, from Michigan in to try the case. Feiger is a lot like Avenati in that he makes outrageous claims about the evidence he has and then it fails to pan out when the case goes to trial. But, again, this frivolous case should be tossed long before trial.

Now watch, all walk in freezers will have to have thermal scanning equipment. If a warm body is detected for more than 10 minutes, the cool will be turned off and the heat will be turned on, as well as automatically opening the door and notifying the alarm company and fire department.
