- The Chicago Police Department says officers have seized more than 9,600 illegal guns so far this year and the department is on pace to recover about 900 more guns than were taken off the city’s streets in 2017.
The department has made a concerted effort in recent years to find as many illegal guns as possible, and the total has climbed to the point where police Superintendent Eddie Johnson says in a news release that officers in 2018 were taking more than one illegal gun off the street every hour.
And as in years past, the numbers are inflated by counting weapon turn-ins. In years past, there used to be "deals" made on the street to surrender the locations of certain "security" weapons to avoid arrest, but that is not permitted.

How about the stats on how many of the arrestees were charged with felonies? How many charges where rejected and or CI to the 12th of never?
They count every gun Inventory; weapon buy back guns, Police Officers guns when they shot them, court mandated guns (domestic safe keeping / order protection, death investigation gun in closets, uncle dies gun turn in, concealed carry robbery victim who fired his gun, deceased officers weapons in locker and many more so called illegal guns.

Illegal guns? Please. The only time a gun should be illegal is when it is either one that is prohibited (machine gun) or one that is in the possession of a disqualified person (e.g. felon or mentally deficient)
So if I moved to Chicago with a pistol, and I didn't bother to get a FOID card, and one of you fine protectors of the Constitution somehow became aware of and confiscated my pistol, it would count among the tally of illegal weapons seized by the police.
I got news for your boss, seizing a pistol because someone doesn't have a FOID card is not usually going to affect the homicide rate.
To impact your homicide rate you need to seize weapons from criminals, not law abiding citizens who haven't bothered to go down to city hall or wherever to pay the tax to be able to own a gun.
If your state had a function criminal justice system people wouldn't need to have weapons for self-protection.

So, 4200 arrests made. How many felony charges were approved by Foxx and Friends? And, you are right. This leaves thousands of recovered guns that apparently do not have an arrests tied to its recovery. So, it is not an " illegal gun".
I would predict that under Governor JB, the Illinois Legislature will attempt to pass a law making assault weapons illegal in the state and demanding a turn-in. Not sure if they have enough votes, but Madigan and JB have veto-proof majorities now.
I am curious how many were turned back over to the legal gun owner?
How many cases were Continued per the states attorney and were not charged?
How many cases were misdemeanors?
How many weapon were actually weapons turn ins?

Anyone found with a fucked up rifle should have been thrown off swat. It’s the individual officer’s responsibility to know if their rifle is clean and functioning. Now SWAT is missing guns?
