- Ald. Edward M. Burke allegedly tried to leverage Burger King executives to give his law firm business to clear the way for a remodeling project at one of their fast-food restaurants in his ward, federal prosecutors charged in a complaint made public Thursday.
The charges revolve around the Burger King location at 4060 S. Pulaski, the Sun-Times has confirmed. That location was thrust into the headlines after Laquan McDonald was fatally shot nearby 16 times by Chicago Police Officer Jason Van Dyke in 2014.
The company sought support from Burke for the remodeling project, and he aggressively tried to land Burger King as a client for his firm to do property tax work across the Chicago area and suburban counties, prosecutors allege.
We surveyed about 124 people and not a single one has any idea why the media had to identify the Burger King as being near the location where the Laquan shooting took place. We guess they're just assholes.

- Federal charges of attempted corruption against Ald. Edward Burke, 14th, have seeped into the race for mayor, with candidate Lori Lightfoot charging that rival Toni Preckwinkle “apparently” is unnamed pol referenced in the charges as receiving an extorted $10,000 campaign donation via Burke.
In a statement and a later interview, Lightfoot underlined that she is a former federal prosecutor and said that Burke was well known to have been raising money for Preckwinkle’s re-election as Cook County Board president around the time Burke allegedly was demanding financial favors from a fast-food restaurant chain.
“Based on what I know, it would appear the politician referenced is her,” Lightfoot said. “She needs to confirm or deny.”
Quite frankly, this is great news and could blow a giant hole in Prickwrinkle's campaign. It's certainly ammunition for every other candidate to slap her around with.
So now, does Burke - facing 20 years - make a deal for a few other heads? He's 75 and any Federal time is pretty much a death sentence.

WGN News later learned that Preckwinkle amended her campaign finance report to the Board of Elections to report the contribution from last Jan. 12. It was from Shoukat Dhanani, the owner of the Burger King at the heart of the charges against Burke.

Prosecutors told the judge that Burke, who has publicly opposed the National Rifle Association and proposed multiple gun-control ordinances over the years, had 23 guns at his offices alone. The judge said one condition of his continued release is that he gets rid of all his guns, including any at his home. He also was required to turn over his passport.
According to the tribune, the indictment states that Toni never reported the campaign contribution to the state. Her campaign says it was sent back. Inquiring minds want to know...
I sure hope the Feds are looking at much more than this incident. Where there’s smoke there’s a Forrest fire with this guy. He’s been around for 50 years. It was am interesting side issue that Burke had a small arsenal uncovered at his offices (23 firearms).
How did Burke vote on Chicago ordinances designed to restrict the Second Amendment Rights of Chicagoans over the years?
It reminded me of former Aldercreature Dick Mell, who took anti-gun positions in the City Council (as well as the goofy positions of his son-in-law, Rod Blagojevich on guns and ammo) while privately maintaining a stockpile of weapons for his personal collection.
That would be awesome if this takes Taxwinkle down. She’s no good for Chicago.

A police officer is stripped immediately when charged with an offense and I agree with that procedure. An exempt is stripped and must return his take home police vehicle when he is charged with an offense and I agree with that too. Alderman Burke should be stripped of his transport detail immediately. It has a terrible appearance that the Chicago Police Department is driving this accused criminal around in official CPD vehicles. It will look particularly bad if CPD drives him to his court appearances in CPD vehicles. Stop the detail now!!! He was forced to turn in his 23 guns and he should be forced to turn in his hired guns as well. In addition, he should no longer have his own radio callsign on the CPD communications system. I sat in on a zoning meetings a while back. There were a couple of small businesses that applied for zoning in his ward. During the process, he appeared from the back room and gave his blessing to both applicants in front of the zoning board. Curious what, if anything, it took to get him to support their applications. I will say this, because of him, I decided to open my business outside of the city. I couldn’t deal with his proposed ordinance at the time. Glad to see him finally indicted.

He told Burke not to call the usual on the CPD but to refer all his inquiries to the ATF Agents. I heard Bruke looked like a deer in the headlights.

Lori Lightfoot former federal prosecutor ha-ha wonder what her bone will be when she loses. When I was a teen I dated a crazy coppers kid ( young love sucks.) Dads partner wanted the son. Female P.O. attacked me while I was attending a city college campus. Yes I was the only one enrolled. OPS investgator Lightfood did shit not even a suspension. (Still have all the original paperwork to prove it) I later went on to have a 30+ career with CPD now retired with no disciplinary. Imagine that. I learned early on. Thanks for that the Chicago way. Just to let anyone interested, this is an accurate account. That detective scared the shit out Burke and the Commander of the Unit never heard from him again.
Maybe they gave him enough gold chains to hang himself.
Burke ignored federal subpoenas for records, Inspector General subpoenas for records, and good ol Lisa Madigan never looked at him once. Now, its time to meet justice.
